help with R CMD check --as-cran
Hi Everyone!
This is my first time using R-help. I am trying to do R CMD check before uploading my package to CRAN.
R CMD check --as-cran "my package folder".
However, it spits out this warning:
"pdf is needed for checks on size reduction of PDFs"
I searched online but found no clue to solve this problem. Can someone tell me what could be wrong with my package?
Thanks a

R CMD check --as-cran without qpdf
Today, a package that has an HTML vignette (but no PDF vignette) failed
R CMD check --as-cran on a system without qpdf. I think the warning
originates here [1], due to a premature check for the existence of qpdf
[2]. Setting R_QPDF=true (as in /bin/true) helped, but perhaps it's
possible to check qpdf existence only when it matters.
I have attached a patch (untested) that could serve as a

Estoy usando Mac OS X.
Muchas gracias,

NEWS.md support on CRAN
That is more or less what I had been doing for a long time (having
both NEWS.md and NEWS), but decided not to do it any more last year.
In fact, you can easily convert NEWS.md to a NEWS file that R's news()
can understand, e.g.
https://github.com/yihui/knitr/blob/947ad5fc94/Makefile#L8-L10 (if
your NEWS.md is like this

CRAN task views: markdown? better .CSS?
CRAN task views are useful, but they seem difficult to write and
maintain because the XML format is rather
limited (no sectioning) and the <packagelist> must be maintained manually.
They are also difficult to read because the generated html and .css used
are extremely basic, giving an
overly dense page.
Are there any markdown-like tools for writing a CTV? Is it possible to

upquote.sty in Fedora 21
My CMD check server started failing after upgrading to Fedora 21:
LaTeX errors when creating PDF version.
This typically indicates Rd problems.
LaTeX errors found:
! LaTeX Error: File `upquote.sty' not found.
The problem was easily resolved by installing texlive-upquote. Perhaps
this package should be included as a dependency to the R-devel
package?

Bug in tools::compactPDF() in 2.13-0-alpha

There seems to be an bug in compactPDF() or at least an inconsistency

Usando R CMD BATCH no me funciona savePlot()
Buenas tardes:
Hasta ahora he utilizado savePlot() en ejecuciones de R en Windows, donde lo

Concretamente éste es el código:

Check for updates under Windows (Was: a reliable way to check the latest version of R on CRAN?)
Dear R developers,
I asked this question in r-help list but have not got a definite
solution yet, and I think it might be more appropriate to ask
developers or CRAN maintainers directly. Many software packages often
have a menu item like "Check for updates" under the "Help" menu, e.g.
Filezilla and Firefox, and I believe it is also necessary for R (at
least for R GUI under

a reliable way to check the latest version of R on CRAN?
Hi all,
We know old.packages() can check for updates of add-on packages, but
is there a way to check updates of R itself? "go to R homepage" is a
way, of course, but I hope this can be done by R.
I'm not sure about the "reliable" place to check; here is a simple
example to check from one of the CRAN webpages (kind of nasty
approach...):
