make error for R 2.13.0 (and 2.12.0)
Regarding Tengfei Yin's post about an error trying to install
"cluster" in 2.13.0, I have gotten an error with this package when
trying to install the released version of 2.12.0. Here is the output
on an Ubuntu Linux system:

Fedora Core 4
I had installed R from source on Fedora Core 3. Then I upgraded
to Fedora Core 4, but left R alone. R worked fine, until I trued
to update.packages(). Even then, many packages updated just
fine, but two of them, cluster and mgcv, failed with the
following error message (using cluster as an example):
gcc -shared -L/usr/local/lib -o cluster.so clara.o daisy.o
dysta.o fanny.o meet.o mona.o pam.o

MacOS X: Packages KernSmooth and cluster won't compile
Hello,
I'm using R 1.40 on MacOS X X.1.2 (installed via the fink package manager).
To upgrade my installed packages, I tried to use update.packages() today.
All went well for most packages, with the exception of KernSmooth and
cluster. In both cases, libraries were not found although I think they are
present.
Here's what happened:

Dear R-list members,
I am using the cluster package and by the generation of plot.partition I ran

how to manipulate object in specific environment?
Hi
I want to simplify my problem into a prototype, how to write a function to
get all the object in your current environment, e.g. .GlobalEnv, and print
their mode?
For example, if I have object a,b,c... in my environment,
a=1;b='test';c=matrix(0,3,3).....
I want to write a function myfun(), when I run myfun(), this retrieve all
the objects in my environment automatically and print

Inconsistent use of Perl? (PR#1937)
Dear all
yesterday I got around to install R-1.5.1 on my machine at home which,
admittedly, is running a very old version of RedHat Linux. I noticed
two things:
1) My pdflatex version is too old to produce the pdf version of the
manuals. `./configure' checks whether a recent version of makeinfo
is installed and tells you whether you can produce the info version or
not. (I was told I

R for ubuntu 10.04?
Hi dear all
I am currently using Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic) and R 2.10, I can find a R release
that support "karmic" in cran under ubuntu directory, I plan to update my
laptop to Ubuntu 10.04 after April 30, since I have to use some new features
or new version in it, e.g. QT 4.6, I don't know if there is going to be a R
release that will support this newly released Ubuntu?

FW: [BioC] Overlay Gene Expression on SNP (copy number) data
Dear All,
Thank you kindly for such detailed replies. I was looking to overlay data using algorithms so that i am able to tell which genes are differentially expressed due to changes in copy number. I did a pubmed search and found only 7 literature pieces all of which use in-house algorithms. I am yet to explore Gviz since it wouldn't work on R 2.14, would try it after upgrading to R 2.15.

Reference Class error message: may be caused by lazy evaluation?
Dear All,
I came across an error message recently when constructing a reference class,
an example is attached below, it looks like only if I call a specific method
in advance, otherwise it cannot be found in defined method without using
.self, this make it difficulty that sometimes in my initialize method, I
need to call other method defined in the same reference class, the
workaround for this is

plot(pam.object) error with R-1.7.0 on Red-Hat 8.0 i686
I don't know if there is some fault in compiling or a bug of the new
R-1.7.0 version:
cl.pam.2 <- pam(as.dist(1-cor(mel.data)),2)
plot(cl.pam.2)
perform a right partitioning and silhouette plot on the old R-1.6.2
instead
"Error in clusplot.default(x$diss,...... ;
x is not numeric"
is the output on the new R-1.7.0.
Same platform: RH8.0 i686.
Some suggestions?
