Creating symbolic expressions in R
Hello,
I'm trying to do some differential equation modeling in R using the
package 'deSolve.' Briefly, I'm trying to use the law of mass action
(the details of which aren't really important) to structure a vector
of rate equation which will be passed into an ODE function and solved
with associated functions from 'deSolve.' Roughly what this entails

Comparing Proportions Among Groups
Hi everyone,
I am trying to compare proportions among groups using the logistic
regression
approach as follows:
1) Fit the model log(p_i/(1-p_i)) = M + G_i, where p_i is the probability
of success in group i and G_i is the effect of group i, i=1,..,I.
2) Test the hypotheses:
Ho: G_1 = G_2 = ... = G_I (the probability of success is the same for all
groups)

ordering a vector
Hi,
is there a R function that order a matrix according to some criteria
based on the rows(or cols) of that matrix?
For example, let's say that my matrix S is composed by n rows S_1,
S_2,.., S_n and that I compute some real value g_i=g(S_i) for each
row.
Then I want to order this set of g_i (from smaller to bigger) and
order the correspondent row to the new position.
Is it possible (apart

R-beta: is there a way to get rid of loop?
Here is a programming question. The code I am using is quite slow and I
was wondering if there is a way to get rid of the for loop.
I am dealing with "interaction" in 2x2 table, and am using Edwards's G_I
(Likelihood, p. 194).
I label the cells in the table as follows

solving system of equations involving non-linearities
Hi,
I would appreciate if someone could help me on track with this problem.
I want to compute some parameters from a system of equations given a number of sample observations. The system looks like this:
sum_i( A+b_i>0 & A+b_i>C+d_i) = x
sum_i( C+d_i>0 & C+d_i>A+b_i) = y
sum_i( exp(E+f_i) * ( A+b_i>0 & A+b_i>C+d_i) = z
A, C, E are free variables while the other

Help with efficient double sum of max (X_i, Y_i) (X & Y vectors)
Greetings.
For R gurus this may be a no brainer, but I could not find pointers to
efficient computation of this beast in past help files.
Background - I wish to implement a Cramer-von Mises type test statistic
which involves double sums of max(X_i,Y_j) where X and Y are vectors of
differing length.
I am currently using ifelse pointwise in a vector, but have a nagging
suspicion that there is a

use expression() in a loop
Hi all,
I want to do plot() in a loop to make 10 graphs, so I have some code like
for (i in 1:10) {
plot(... ... , xlab = expression(g[i]) )
}
I expect g_1, g_2, and so on appear on x labels, but it simply prints
g_i for each graph. Does anybody know how to get around this problem?
Thanks.

[LLVMdev] Is va_arg correct on Mips backend?
I check the Mips backend for the following C code fragment compile result. It seems not correct. Is it my misunderstand or it's a bug.
//ch8_3.cpp
#include <stdarg.h>
int sum_i(int amount, ...)
{
int i = 0;
int val = 0;
int sum = 0;
va_list vl;
va_start(vl, amount);
for (i = 0; i < amount; i++)
{
val = va_arg(vl, int);
sum += val;
}
va_end(vl);

weighted likelihood for lme
Dear R users,
I'm trying to fit a simple random intercept model with a fixed intercept.
Suppose I want to assign a weight w_i to the i-th contribute to the log-likelihood, i.e.
w_i * logLik_i
where logLik_i is the log-likelihood for the i-th subject.
I want to maximize the likelihood for N subjects
Sum_i {w_i * logLik_i}
Here is a simple example to reproduce

[LLVMdev] Is va_arg correct on Mips backend?
Which part of the generated code do you think is not correct? Could you be
more specific?
I compiled this program with clang and ran it on a mips board. It returns
the expected result (21).

Report for http://trac.xapian.org/wiki/SupportedPlatforms
Hello :-)
There was probably no good reason to do this build but the Debian 6.0
Squeeze repo version was 1.2.3, we needed 1.2.4 and I didn't think of using
the package from unstable.

Platform: Linux 2.6 Debian 6.0 (Squeeze)
Compiler: gcc version 4.4.5 (Debian 4.4.5-8)

maxLik pakage
Hi all;
I recently have been used 'maxLik' function for maximizing G2StNV178 function with gradient function gradlik; for receiving this goal, I write the following program; but I have been seen an error in calling gradient function;
The maxLik function can't enter gradlik function (definition of gradient function); I guess my mistake is in line ******** ,that the vector ‘h’ is

compute posterior mean by numerical integration
Dear R useRs,
i try to compute the posterior mean for the parameters omega and beta
for the following
posterior density. I have simulated data where i know that the true
values of omega=12
and beta=0.01. With the function postMeanOmega and postMeanBeta i wanted
to compute
the mean values of omega and beta by numerical integration, but instead
of omega=12
and beta=0.01 i get omega=11.49574 and

Newbie questions about omega
Dear all,
I am a newbie to Xapian-Omega.
I installed Xapian-Omega (1.2.14) a few days ago on my freebsd NAS server,
and intend to use it to search my CIFS/SMB share.
So far it works fine (I am able to search my share using the omega web
interface), nevertheless I have few newbie questions.
Hoping that somebody can answer my (hopefully not to silly) newbie
questions.

omega vs. alpha explanation
Dear all
I wonder if someone can explain what is the main difference between omega
and alpha reliabilities?
I understand an omega reliability is based on hierarchical factor model as
shown in this graph<http://rgm2.lab.nig.ac.jp/RGM_results/psych:omega.graph/omega.graph_002_big.png>,
and
alpha uses average inter-item correlations.
