Hmm. Silly(ish) question re: winbind
Hmm...I've never tried it with a local user and a domain group. I've
certainly done stuff like:
chown DOMAIN+David:"DOMAIN+Domain Users" *
and had it work before...

Wishlist: Downgrade missing Rd links to NOTEs for non-installed Suggested packages
Hi,
I wish to suggest that Rd cross references to help sections in
"Suggested" packages that are not installed should be reported as
NOTE:s and not WARNING:s by R CMD check. This should only apply to
packages under Suggests: in DESCRIPTION.
RATIONALE:
1. One reason for putting a package under Suggests: is that it does

Unable to write to Samba Share from WinXP
Samba 3.014a
I have three computers networked together. Two are WinXP Pro and one is a FreeBSD 5.4 running Samba.
I cam use 'smbclient' to exchange files between the computers. However, when I attempt to use the WinXP machines to send a file to the Samba machine I receive an error message. This is the usual message:

a lot off nmbd
Hello,
I have installed a new server with mandriva 2007 free edition, with
samba 3.0.23d on it.
It is good but a new nmbd appears every 5 minutes and they don't die
when I stop samba.
So, I compiled samba 3.0.24 and ... idem.
This is not my first install, on my other servers they're only 2 nmbd.
With this install, after one day, I have more than 250 daemons, it is
the hell !

Configuring Proxy: Proxy Authentication Required with --internet2
Hi there
I'm trying to configure R to get access to the internet.
Using the Internet Explorer a proxy .pac script is used.
Reading some older threads I found that I can use the --internet2 option.
When choosing a mirror I get the error: "407 Proxy Authentication Required".
This seems reasonable since I have to log in when using the IE as well. But
where do I enter username and

Linux and proxy problem (PR#8488)
Dear R staff
I'm a osu Ph.D.
I have a problem with Linux.
I usually start R on Windows OS by dos shell:
c:\Program Files\R\R-2.2.1\bin\Rgui.exe --internet2
With no script --internet2 i can't connect to
bioconductor to download bioconductor packages.
A real problem is that I can't do this with Linux: R --internet2 command doesn't work.
My system administrator doesn't

R for Windows Proxy Solution
For errors with:
download.file()
install.package()
update.package()
any other command that R uses to access the internet
Setting up a proxy in R 2.2.1 for windows.
I work at a Central Bank so our firewall and proxy are very particular. To
allow R to access the net I did the following:
1. In order for other programs, specifically STATA, to access the internet
we use a program called Privoxy.

rpm spec file for "fakejava"
Interestingly, i just posted to the list a similar SPEC file.
look at the thread on CGI.pm.
I've attached my spec file for "fakejava" as well.
It was a lot of trial and error to make it work. None of the
documentation I could find was for modern versions of RPM, and IIRC the
documentation i did find for older versions was incorrect somehow.
I think I had to specify a source

(from BugTraq) openssh2.2.p1 - Re: scp file transfer hole
X-PMC-CI-e-mail-id: 13726
Hi,
I have been a successful user of Openssh for some time.
I am attaching two articles from BugTraq.
Hopefully, they show exactly the security problems
reported in the BugTraq mailing list.
[Pity that no one seemed to have bothered to contact the
mailing list(s) for openssh development.]
I am not sure what the right fixes would be.
But at least, people need to be

CVE-2007-4091
hi all,
i haven't seen any discussion here of this issue, nor do i see
any obviously related (open) bugs in bugzilla. It's not
clear to me from the CVE how important this issue is or isn't,
but i'm a bit concerned.

RE: problem: use install.packages() with proxy under Windows 2000 with Pentium 4 machine
Hi all,
An offline communication with B. Ripley gives the answer for whoever else
may have the similar problem:
Run R with a flag:
Rgui --internet2 or Rterm --internet2
By the way, as Brian pointed out, this information can be found at R for
Windows FAQ on cran website.
Regards,
Jonathan

update.packages with proxy?
This reminds me of a question I've never asked yet: Is there a trick to make
this work when a username authentication is required for using the proxy?
I need a user name and a password to connect to the Internet, and so I get:

adding option in the Windows installer for --internet2
[Not sure if such wishlist item should go to R-help or R-devel...]
It would be nice if an option can be added to the R for Windows installer
that will add the --internet2 option to the command line in the shortcut
that gets created. Also, is it possible to make that an option that can be
set at the R prompt, or perhaps even better, as the default no matter
how/where R is started? For those of
