Testing for membership in an array of strings
As an R beginner, I feel brain dead today as I can not find the answer to a relatively simple question. Given a array of string values, for example lets say "mary", "bob", "danny", "sue", and "jane". I am trying to determine how to perform a logical test to determine if a variable is an exact match for one of the string values in the array

Quicken 2008 Registration
I'm pretty dependent on Quicken. (widoze) I have a new install of Wine 1.1.14. Installed IE6 because Quicken would not work with built-in IExplorer. Program works pretty good. Many features require that the program be registered. I run Quicken then select On-line Registration from the Help Menu: blair at exercise:~$ wine c:\\"Program Files"\\Quicken\\qw.exe

Connecting to AD and OpenLDAP
We are trying to connect a file server to our AD for sid info, while trying to use our OpenLDAP server for uid, gid and other posix info. Is there any way to do this? We already have uids, gids, and sids so we can't dynamically create them.

special latin1 do not print as glyphs in current devel on windows
Upon further inspection, I think these are at least two problems. First the issue with printing latin1/cp1252 characters in the "80" to "9F" code range. x <- c("?", "?", "?") Encoding(x) print(x) I assume that these are Unicode escapes!? (Given that Encoding(x) shows "latin1" I'd rather expect latin1/cp1252 escapes here, but

MAC R crashes
Dear R-Help Group: R will not start on my imac running 10.6.2. I installed both R2.10.1 and 2.10.0 from pkg. It crashed on both. I tried both the R and R64 apps and both versions 2.10.1 and 2.10.0. I googled and found nothing on this. Below is part of report: Process: R [767] Path: /Applications/R64.app/Contents/MacOS/R Identifier: org.R-project.R Version: R

RPostgreSQL segfault with LEFT JOIN
Hi, I recently upgraded to R 2.9.0 on linux x86. After doing so, I switched to the RPostgreSQL package for interfacing with a postgresql database. I am using postgresql 8.3.7. A query that works from the postgresql terminal is causing a segfault when executed from R. My sessionInfo, the error message, and the R code used to generate the error are listed below. I have noticed that a

R 2.10 'memory leak'? on OS X
Dear R users, I am running R 2.10.0 on OS X 10.5.8. I had been running 2.10 successfully for about a week (and have used previous R versions for 2+ years on the same computer) until 2 days ago it failed to start up for me. Now when I try to start R, the application tries to initiate for several minutes then crashes. Looking at the activity monitor, my memory usage goes from having about 1.6Gb

Typo in the documentation of prcomp. (PR#569)
The help for prcomp on R 1.0.0 states that the component sdev of the return value is the eigenvalues of the cov matrix. Am I completely mistaken, or should this be the _square root_ of the eigenvalues? Also, the documentation is not very clear about how tol is used to omit components. (The _code_ is clear, though. :-) -- B/H
