I'm trying to help with http://bugs.codeweavers.com/show_bug.cgi?id=434
and came across my thread from Feb, that I must have missed.

Interpolating variables within (RODBC library) SQL statements for MySQL
Hi everyone,
I am desperately looking for a method to interpolate strings within an SQL
statement as follows:
I get a lot of rows out of a database (in my example POSITION_to_ZIPCODE
Database with holds records for German ZIP Code <--> Gauss-Krueger
Coordinate System ) and want this to be selected and computed individually
row by row as follows:
library(RODBC)

PostgreSQL CASCADE not copied to test db
When the unit test harness creates a test database from the
development database, the ON DELETE CASCADE constraints I have on my
foreign keys are not copied into the test database. (I can tell by
looking at db/development_structure.sql.)
That means the fixtures can''t load/unload from the test database
properly. In other words, all my tests fail with the same error
message:

Patch for place plugin (Cascade, Centered, ...)
Here is a patch for place plugin.
It add a "place_mode" option wich actually can have two values: "Cascade"
(original placement mode) and "Centered".
Thanks for any comment!

Project Cascade?
Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has heard of the new Sun product called
Project Cascade? You can find more information about it at a link
directly off the main sun.com page.
I'm curious as to whether or not it will be as good as samba, and if
people are going to think that an equivilent hasn't been around for quite
some time...

ActiveRecord and cascade removing
Hi. Please help me how to make cascade delete for this 3 classes:
class Section < ActiveRecord:Base
has_many :ad_bindings
has_many: banners, :through => :ad_bindings
end
class AdBinding < ActiveRecord:Base
belongs_to :banner
end
class Banner < ActiveRecord:Base
end
When I remove Banner, I need to remove AdBinding also, but it still
stored in database. Where I wrong?

2D Random walk
I've wrote some code to simulate a random walk in 2 dimensions on a lattice.
Basically I want to add something in to make it plot it point by point so
you can see what is going on.
Heres my code for the random walk in 2d
RW2D<-function(N)
{
i<-0
xdir<-0
ydir<-0
xpos<-vector()
xpos[1]<-xdir
ypos<-vector()
ypos[1]<-ydir
for (i in 1:N-1)

segfault when running heatmap()
Hi, I was wondering if someone in the mailing list has any insight into this
segfault error that I consistently find when running a script containing
heatmap() in R 2.8.1 and 2.8.0 on a Linux 64-bit machine.
Some points:
1. This occurs when running heatmap().
2. Interestingly, if I source() the script or copy and paste the script in
its entirety, this error occurs. However, if I run the

No subject
Dear Friends,
Yesterday I posed a question to the list concerning the possibility of doing
animation examples in R. Here is an example S-Plus (4.5 for Windows ) that
I wrote to illustrate my problem. If I try this in R (comment out the
graphsheet and guilocator calls) I don't see my results until after the
function has iterated through the 100 trials. I would like to plot each
iteration.

Converting nested "for" loops to an "apply" function(s)
Hello,
I would like to know more about how to use the "apply" family and have attempted to convert nested "for" loops in example code from Contributed Documentation ("The Friendly Beginners' R Course? by Toby Marthews (ZIP, 2007-03-01)") to an "apply" function(s). The relevant code is:
distances=c(51,65,175,196,197,125,10,56) #distances of 8 houses

Re: [R} stars graphs
I thought about that star graph again, and realized that it would be quite
a handy thing for visualizing cyclic data like time or compass direction.
Here is a cleaned up (and renamed) version to do a polar plot that starts
at the right and goes counterclockwise or a 24 hour clock plot that starts
at the top and goes clockwise. There are probably other varieties that
would be interesting.

Plotting quiver vector tensor arrows 2d field data
Hi All,
I'd like to plot something like

setting different environments
Hallo,
I have a set of S4 and S3 classes together in one script.
While running this script I create a lot of new functions and objects
An example for S3 and S4 classes:
## S3 classes
pt <- list(x=1,y=2)
class(pt) <- "xypoint"
xpos <- function(x, ...) UseMethod("xpos")
xpos.xypoint <- function(x) x$x
ypos <- function(x, ...) UseMethod("ypos")

quiver plot help
Hello everybody
I'm trying to write a simple version of matlab's "quiver".
The idea is that I have fluid with velocity defined on a grid. I have
a matrix of x-components of velocity and a matrix of y-components and
I want to see the overall flow pattern. (I work with 2D fluid
mechanics problems).
My first-stab function is below:
quiver <- function(u,v,scale=1)

Titles changing when a plot is redrawn
I ran into a problem with titles on graphs. I wanted a graph with
multiple subplots, with each having a title that involved both
a Greek letter and an identifier for each graph. Below is a
simplified version of code to do this. The graph appears fine,
with the first graph having "i=1" in the title, and the second
graph having "i=2" in the title. However, when I resize the

textplot() in gplots causes problems (0x9)
Hello,
I am using textplot function in gplots package to put some model
output inside a PDF file, but it does not seem to work properly with
PDF.
I am doing follwing:
pdf(file="C:/...", paper="a4", width=8, height=12)

Win 64 package build - ERROR: loading failed for 'x64'
I have developed an R package that works under Win32, but when I attempt to build it on Win64,
I get ERROR: loading failed for 'x64'
More precisely, I developed and tested the package under Win32 and it works. But when I move
to a 64 bit Windows 7 (Home Premium) system, and attempt to build both 32 bit and 64 bit packages,
the 32 bit package seems to build, but the 64 bit build

wish list: generalized apply
Dear All,
I regularly want to "apply" some function to an array in a way that the arguments to the user function depend on the index on which the apply is working. A simple example is:
A <- array( runif(160), dim=c(5,4,8) )
x <- matrix( runif(32), nrow=4, ncol=8 )
b <- runif(8)
f1 <- function( A, x, b ) { sum( A %*% x ) + b }
result <- rep(0.0,8)
for (i in 1:8) {

acts_as_list not CASCADE''ing in singular n-tier model structure
[using RAILs 1.1.2]
Has anyone else seen issues where multiple tiered "acts_as_list"
models do not CASCADE delete correctly? For instance, I have 4
models, the first 3 in the hierarchy have the appropriate "have_many"
declarations with "exclusively_dependent => true". The last the
models have the appropriate "acts_as_list" with the correct scope

require(..., quietly=TRUE) does not suppress warning
Hi,
The `quietly` argument of `require` is documented as follows:
quietly: a logical. If ?TRUE?, no message confirming package
attaching is printed, and most often, no errors/warnings are
printed if package attaching fails.
However:
> require(foo, quietly=TRUE)
Warning message:
