Request - adding recycled "lwd" parameter to polygon
Hello dear members of R-help and R-core mailing list, I am not sure if this request is a "ticket" that should be filled somewhere outside the mailing list. If so, I apologize for not doing and would like to know where I should have filled it. And to the subject matter: I would like to use a command like this: plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n") polygon(1:7, c(2,1,2,NA,2,1,2),

How to infer default width and height for a device?
Hi. GENERAL: Is there a general method for inferring default device settings, particularly 'width' and 'height', that works for all devices? AFAIK, the answer is no, but there might be functions out there that I don't know of. POSTSCRIPT SPECIFIC: If not, I'm considering implementing such a method myself. Is it possible for R to infer the default 'width' and

Plot to tiff, font size problem in multiple plot figures
I am creating graphs for a publication and would like them to have the same font size... but when I create a figure with multiple plots, the font size decreases even though I haven't changed the tiff() resolution or pointsize specifications, I have increased the figure size according to how many plots it will ultimately have, and I have made sure the margins are equivalent for single and

Save Venn-diagram (Vennerable) together with table and plot in single pdf page
Dear R-users I want to save a list with characters a point plot and a Venn diagram in a single pdf page. I am successful to do this when I use a character list and two point plots. However when I try to replace the first point plots with my Venn diagram (built with Vennerable package, compute.Venn() and plot.Venn()) the Venn plot will not position at the right place in the pdf. I guess there

MakeActiveBinding help needed
Hi, I wanted a Q&D way to open a new graphics window but keep the focus in the console window (under Windows and the Rgui), so I wrote a line into my Rprofile.site file as follows: invisible(makeActiveBinding('newdev', function(...) dev.new(restoreConsole=T), .GlobalEnv)) (That is all on one line, incase the mailer re-parses it). This gives me a command "newdev" which

savePlot() no longer automatically adds an extension to the filename.
Plaintive squeak: Why the change? Some OS's and desktops use the extension, so forgetting it causes trouble. The new default filename keeps a filetype (as before) but the user now has to type a filetype twice (once as the type, once as extension) to get the same effect fo rtheir own filenames. And the extension isn't then checked for consistency with valid file types, so it can be

how to reduce stress value in isoMDS?
I apply isoMDS to my data, but the result turns out to be bad as the stress value stays around 31! Yeah, 31 ,not 3.1... I don't know if I ignore something before recall isoMDS. My code as follow: m <- read.table("e:/tsdata.txt",header=T,sep=",") article_number <- ts(m, start = 2004,end=2008, frequency = 1 ,names=colnames(m))

savePlot() under Windows
Hi, A Windows user asked me a question and I believe this is a bug of R 3.0.0 under Windows: > plot(1:10) > savePlot('test.wmf') Error in .External(C_savePlot, device, filename, type, restoreConsole) : Incorrect number of arguments (4), expecting 3 for 'savePlot' > sessionInfo() R version 3.0.0 (2013-04-03) Platform: x86_64-w64-mingw32/x64 (64-bit) locale: [1]

jpeg() saving blank files?
Hi, I am having trouble saving graphics from R. jpeg() saves a file with the correct name to the correct directory, but it consists of a blank (white) jpeg with the specified dimensions--the image itself is not being saved. My code is jpeg(filename="myfile.jpg", height = 2.5, width = 8, units = "in", res = 72, pointsize = 12, quality = 100, bg = "white",

Changing axis lable text size in plots?
Dear list I'm plotting ( boxplot() and plot() ) some data for a publication. The editor would like the text labels on the plots in a larger font. I'm doing something like this: <snip> jpeg( filename = "D:/Martin/Work/CleanPath/RAF1%03d.jpg", width = 1000, height = 600, pointsize = 12, quality = 100, bg = "white", res = 96, restoreConsole = TRUE )

CMYK color space
dear R experts---I am struggling with the requirements to prepare my files for my printers. I am printing in 2/2 format, which means cyan and black for me, which they take from my color-separated pdf files. R comes into play, because it produces all the figures that are embedded in my book (pdflatex). now, TeX has no problems producing CMYK files. However, R produces RGB files (for

R crashes using pdf() windows() or postscript()
Dear HelpeRs, I have a script where I save several thousands of graphics. These are then used in Latex through Sweave. Unfortunately R crashes while making these plots and Windows pops up some message that I run low on virtual memory. I tried to save the plots using pdf(), windows() and postscript() and also tried to run it with R CMD BATCH myscript.R. But after a while R slows down and crashes

Bubble Plot Over a Map
Hi everybody, Well here is another doubt! I’m elaborating some maps, and I pretend to plot over it the abundance of species. I could do that using points(), but I’d like to use bubble() from sp package. When trying to use bubble() I face the fallowing issue: When I call the bubble function it overwrite everything I previously plotted. It doesn’t happen with points (obviously), only with

error in passing an argument to do.call when do.call is in a for statement
Dear R-users, I am having a problem with passing an argument to a function in a do.call function which itself is in a for statement. I am building a function to upload question pools to the blackboard learning environment. This function which transforms questions to XML style output should be generic and allow for any function to generate questions. Therefore I use do.call in this function.

Grapics Device Resolution Limits
Note that there are at least 5 separate png() devices, so Linux was not using the (default) device used on Windows. In general, the device-limits info is not on the help page because we do not know it. On Windows the default device limits depend on the OS version, 32/64-bit, RAM and the graphics hardware. This sounds like the last: you were asking for 49 megapixels which is far larger than
