cat: ./R/Copy: No such file or directory
Hello:
What do you recommend I do to get past cryptic error messages from
"R CMD check", complaining "No such file or directory"? The package is
under SVN control, and I reverted to a version that passed "R CMD
check", without eliminating the error. The "00install.out" file is
short and bitter:
cat: ./R/Copy: No such file or directory

matplot.Date & matplot.POSIXct
Hello, All:
????? Roughly a decade ago, I added "matplot.Date" and
"matplot.POSIXct" to the "fda" package, so we could get reasonable
labeling of the horizontal axis when "x" was class "Date" or "POSIXct".?
I also added a local version of "matplot.default" that just changes the
defaults for "xlab" and

normal-bracket50bracket-normal?
Hello:
I've found structures like "normal-bracket50bracket-normal" in
help files for R packages including the following:
* "mergeprepare" and "mergematrices" in a document dated
March 3, 2004 by Richard Mott; the second contains
"normal-bracket30bracket-normal".

new version of fda fixes bug in pca.fd and supports library(Matrix)
Hello, All:
fda_2.2.8 (functional data analysis) is now available on CRAN. This
revision includes the following improvements:
1. A bug in pca.fd has been fixed.
2. Many functions have a new argument "returnMatrix", which if
TRUE allows the function to use the sparse matrix representations in
library(Matrix). This should allow users to solve some larger

- making a Windows library from Unix source code
Hi All,
I'm using R1.8.1 on Windows XP.
I'm having trouble producing an R library from source code. A colleague has written the source code, in Unix. I've copied the source code across to Windows (with the help files, data files, description and index) and am trying to compile it into a library.
I've "sourced" each of the *.r files and they appear to work.

Routes and Testing Routes
I love the routes feature for RoR...until now. I''m trying to write tests
to make sure my urls are correctly mapping to the routes I expect them
to map to. This is driving me nuts because I simply can''t get any of my
tests to pass. I have thus concluded that routes must work differently
than I thought. If someone could possibly point me in the right
direction, I would really

Defining environments within functions
How can I define environments within a function so that they are visible
to calls to a sub-function?
I have defined an objective function,
ProfileErr = function(params,...)
which I would like to optimize using standard routines (optim,
nlminb,....) but which contains auxiliary variables which need to be
updated along with params. No optimization routine in R that I have
found has facilities

plot.new, trellis and windows plot history (PR#8935)
Full_Name: Andrew Hooker

OS: windows xp sp2
Submission from: (NULL) (83.253.8.162)
Hi,
I think there is a bug in the windows graph history procedure, here is what
happens:
1. open R
2. 'library(lattice)'
3. 'xyplot(0~0)'
4. Turn on recording in the graphical window
5. Add plot to history
4. 'plot.new()'
5. 'xyplot(1~1)'

DNS problem when adding new record using samba-tool
Hi all,
I am setting up a new AD server with Samba 4.1.11 from the FreeBSD ports.
I struggle with the internal DNS. I add a new CNAME record but it does not
show up properly.
I gave the AD domain a new DNS domain (domain.fda) and the server the name
samba4.domain.fda.
I am using the internal DNS, and a forwarder to a bind server in the same
network.
After the AD provision I have this here

"could not find function" error in "R CMD check"
Hi, All:
What might cause "R CMD check" to report, "could not find
function" for a function that has long been in the 'fda' package?
Both Jim Ramsay in Ottawa, Canada, and I in San Jose, CA, get this
same error. I replicated it with a fresh, anonymous checkout from
R-Forge (svn checkout svn://svn.r-forge.r-project.org/svnroot/fda).
With this, I did

R, clinical trials and the FDA
I hope that Marc doesn't mind, but I felt that part of his recent post
was important enough to deserve it's own subject line rather then
being lost in a 60-msg-long thread...

R 1.9.0 and pred.rpart
I have just upgraded from R 1.7.3 to R 1.9.0 and have found that the
predict function no longer works for rpart:

Error in predict.rpart(hmmm, sim3[1:10, ]) :
couldn't find function "pred.rpart"
I have re-installed the rpart package to no avail. Any ideas?

R and FDA trials
Yesterday I just noticed the new document on R and regulatory aspects
for biomedical research posted at
http://www.r-project.org/doc/R-FDA.pdf
Coming from an institution that performs a large number of clinical
trials for FDA and being an advocate of R myself, I have found that
the following issues usually come up when discussing the use of R for
FDA trials:
1. Most FDA submissions come down to

Error in formatDL(nm, txt, indent = max(nchar(nm, "w")) + 3)
This error can arise when getOption("width") is too small. 80 seems to be the
limit for me with R-3.3.2 on Windows.

NAMESPACE problem: import(zoo) but 'zoo' could not be loaded
Hello:
I'm having problems creating a real NAMESPACE to replace the pro
forma one in the fda package on R-Forge. "R CMD check" complains,
"Error: package 'zoo' could not be loaded ... there is no package called
'zoo'"; see below. I get this both with and without "import(zoo)" in
NAMESPACE.
Suggestions?
Thanks,

Changing 'record' option in open graphics device
Hi,
I am wondering if there is a way to change the value of the "record" option
in a graphics device that is already open (and accepts this option). I
don''t want to open a new device with, for example "dev.new(record=T)", but
just want to change the settings of the current device. This can be done by
pointing and clicking on the "history" tab of a

discrete discriminant analysis
Hello,
I am using the mda package and in particular the fda routine to classify in
term of gear a set of 20 trips.
I preformed a flexible discriminant analysis (FDA) using a set of 151
trips.
FDAT1 <- fda(as.factor(gear) ~ . , data =matrizR)
A total of 22 predictors were considered. 20 of the predictors are
"numeric" and 2 are "factors/discrete".
The resulting FDA

R CMD check does not recognize S4 functions inside other functions?
I am developing a new R package and am now checking it for submission to
CRAN.
The some functions in the package make use of the sparse matrix routines
in the package 'Matrix'.
When these are loaded in R, they create no problems.
However, when running R CMD check, I run into the following error in
executing the examples in a .rd file:
