Request - adding recycled "lwd" parameter to polygon
Hello dear members of R-help and R-core mailing list,
I am not sure if this request is a "ticket" that should be filled somewhere
outside the mailing list. If so, I apologize for not doing and would like
to know where I should have filled it.
And to the subject matter:
I would like to use a command like this:
plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n")
polygon(1:7, c(2,1,2,NA,2,1,2),

suggest enhancement to segments and arrows to facilitate horizontal and vertical segments
I suggest a simple enhancement to segments() and arrows() to
facilitate drawing horizontal and vertical segments --
set default values for the second x and y arguments equal to the first set.
This is handy, especially when the expressions for coordinates are long.
Compare:
Segments:
< function (x0, y0, x1 = x0, y1 = y0, col = par("fg"), lty = par("lty"),

Drawing dendrogram
Dear all,
I would like to draw a dendrogram and mark some parts/branches (by using "segments") including their labels. If I draw it without specifying the length of x axix, I am able to do that (as in My dendrogram 1 of the following codes). However, if I want to specify the x axix, I am not able to draw marking line (by using "segments") including labels (as in My dendrogram

fill colour in grid
Dear all r-users,
I have this code below to draw two squares, small and big square. I would like to colour the small square with red and the big square with blue for example. I tried using polygon but fail. Thank you so much for your help.

Grid newbie: aligning & scaling viewports
Oh Knowledgeable Ones:
I'm working on a project using grid graphics (for the first time). A toy
example is given below, run it simply with >foobar() I am wondering why the
pink dot and concentric circles are not centered on the 3-color axis system.
Further, I feel like the concentric circles don't have the intended radius -
if my math is right, the outmost circle should touch the

arrows: no vectors for "code" and "angle" parameters
I was teaching new R users to make some fun graphs. I had some arrows examples
worked up we came across a problem. The arrows function ignores 2nd
and following elements of vectors given as code an angle.
Would you please consider 1) allowing vectors for code and angle, or
2) returning an error or warning when user mistakenly supplies a
vector for those parameters? When code like this is

segments() bug?
Is there a reason that segments()
function (x0, y0, x1, y1, col = par("fg"), lty = par("lty"),
lwd = par("lwd"), xpd = FALSE)
.Internal(segments(x0, y0, x1, y1, col = col, lty = lty, lwd = lwd,
xpd = xpd))
has xpd=FALSE in the second line instead of xpd = par("xpd") ?

xyplot() with segments() superposed?
In the hypothetical example below, how do I add two segments() into
the two panels, respectively? Say segments(x0=5, y0=10, x1=5, y1=20)
on the left and segments(x0=15, y0=-10, x1=15, y1=-2) on the right?
Many thanks in advance,
Yuelin Li.
ps. part of the code came from a solution given by Deepayan Sarkar.

A "bug" in plot.dendrogram - can't plot lty with character color
The problem:
===========
Once a dendrogram has a branch with both a line type AND a color (which is
a character color), the plot.dendrogram function will not plot and return
an error.
I say this is a bug because (I believe), we would like a dendrogram to be
able to use character colors, while also allowing control over line types.
This e-mail includes an example, and what I think a solution

plotting (a) confidence intervals (b) standard error
Hi all,
I'm building a plot of the values in tmeant (below) against positions 1 to
5, using matplot.
tmeant looks like this:
case1 case2
pos1 861.8466 818.5909
pos2 961.2841 976.3466
pos3 878.6080 1262.8523
pos4 950.8011 1129.6080
pos5 968.1080 1063.3920
I also have lower (object tl) and upper (object tu) bounds on the
confidence intervals as follows:

Would like to add this to example for plotmath. Can you help?
Greetings:
I would like comments on this example and after fixing it up, I need
help from someone who has access to insert this in R's help page for
plotmath.
I uploaded a drawing
http://pj.freefaculty.org/R/Normal-2009.pdf
that is created by the following code
http://pj.freefaculty.org/R/Normal1_2009_plotmathExample.R
This will be a good addition to the plotmath help page/example.

How to change the type of segments ends?
Hi,
I am trying to plot odds ratios and the corresponding confidence
intervals in horizontal segments. It would be ideal if the confidence
interval segment can be drawn with little vertical bars at both ends. I
have tried very hard to change the type of ends by using 'lend'
arguments, but cannot make it. I even tried 'arrows()', but still
failed. Following is the code I use:

Shading specific region in R
Dear useRs,
Following the given codes below, I generated a plot that has 6 regions around a center point (IL), with 5 regions containing
a point (L1, L2 to L5) and sixth vacant region. I want background of all the filled regions turned "green", while "red" for the
vacant region. Can it be done through a quicker way?
Thanks in advance

new function: showcolors {base}
I propose to add a function that allows

Coloring leaves, twigs and labels in plot.dendrogram()
Core developers,
I couldn't find any simple way to send a vector of colors to apply to each
terminal in plot.dendrogram() or plot.hclust()---I asked R-help about it a
few weeks ago and didn't get any response---so I hacked that functionality
into the plot.dendrgram code (see below for hacked function plus
examples)....
Is there any chance this functionality could be added to the
