CEBA-2005:0723-001 Low CentOS 4 x86_64 up2date/rhn-applet bugfix announcement
CentOS Errata and Bugfix Advisory CEBA-2005-0723-001
This fix is just more trademark and logo reduction in the up2date and
rhn-applet packages. Nothing functional is changed, just more
references to the upstream provider removed and color/logo changes made.
After installation of the new rhn-applet package, please stop and
restart the rhn-applet (the blue check mark on the toolbar). You would

Updates to CentOS-4Beta
1. There are updates to CentOS-4Beta for the i386 and x86_64 arches.
The following RPMS have been changed:

maintainer.
b. yum-2.1.13-1.c4.noarch.rpm - This is an update from the upstream

rhn-applet-gui
After doing the updates, my yum and my up2date both tell me the system
is totally updated, and it is ... however, my rhn-applet says there are
781 updates ... and it lists as updates packages with exactly the same
version ... and even some packages with older versions.
Any Ideas?
The rhn-applet is: rhn-applet-2.1.4-3.centos.1

Johnny Hughes

Hi all,
i have a problem with centos's up2date tool. I have setup a central
update server with yam (http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/yam/) under

RHN Up2date Cruft: can I dump it?
Got part 1 - xx of back up working, so figured it's a good time to look
for stuff to jettison... casually of course. Like paperwork,
documentation, ... it's low on the priority list with GB so cheap these
days.
Anyway, 42M in /var/spool/up2date. Headers and such. I use only yum
after my first month or so of CentOS. Can I dump that and similar non-
config stuff?
Or does it have some

CentOS Errata and Bugfix Advisory 2006:0901-001
The up2date released with CentOS-4.4 did not specifically require the

the /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources file for up2date.
This update changes up2date to require centos-release >= 4-4.2 which
will allow up2date to be used to upgrade of CentOS from 4.3 (or older

Alert icon for yum
Hi all. I have a simple question: CentOS relies mostly on "yum" to
keep systems up to date, although I understand that like on RHEL,
"up2date" is also available. On my system I've run both KDE and GNOME
as Graphical Desktops under X (though I presently run GNOME), and I've
noticed that there is an applet called "CentOS Network Alert Icon" (from

Hi Folks,
as recommended I have only updated up2date , up2date-gnome.#
All other packages deselected.
Run uptodate - okay.
But now I have no channels in up2date - I can't update my system.

up2date-4.2-33-1.centos.3.1
After installing from CD I ran up2date and it looks
like I got everything updated.
For some reason the up2date icon stays red and tells
me that I have up2date-4.2-33-1.centos.3.1 installed
but latest version is up2date-4.5.1.centos.3.1 which
is the old version of up2date.
All the files it wants me to up2date to are the old
files. Is this normal for Centos and will it correct

installing kde using up2date
Hi,
I have already installed 4.2 on my laptop, I only chose GNOME at install
time.
I now need to use up2date to install kde (I wish to install twinkle
softphone).
What is the correct way to do that.
I did:
up2date kde*
up2date -u kde*
up2date -i kde*
It printed a listing of the packages but did not install them.
Thanks,
Jerry

Up2date
Hi all,
I want to use UP2DATE to alert me to updates that are available but still use
yum to make the update. Up2date alerts me and i see what is available and
then update with yum. Up2date icon still shows updates are available. How
can I get up2date to know that the system has been updated?
Thank you.
