EPS
Perhaps this has been mentioned and I wasn't paying attention. When I try to import a postscript file (which is EPS according to the R help on postscript) my Framemaker filter chokes. If I simply edit the first line of the file to put %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0 rather than %!PS-Adobe-3.0 it works just fine. It sure would be simpler if the postscipt driver put this in the file. SUMMARY: EPS->LaTeX problem
Earlier today I posted a problem importing an R graph into a LaTeX file of seminar class: specifically, the graphic was showing up rotated 180 degrees, along with the rest of the page it was on. In a real victory for open-source software, I got lots of responses with three distinct approaches, each of which appears to solve the problem. Try getting fast, correct help from Microsoft on a Sunday

R-beta: Encapsulated Postscript output with R-0.49
I've noticed that the postscript files produced by R-0.49 come up inverted in my postscript previewer. Also, they do not behave like encapsulated postscript files so they can't be imported into LaTeX documents. If I remove lines with page-oriented commands like "%%Page", "%%Orientation", "\bp" and "\ep", the resulting files seem to behave like

Problem making the manuals (make dvi and make pdf)
Dear all, I am trying to compile and install R from sources on Ubuntu GNU/Linux 64 bit. It usually worked flawlessly for me for more than 4 years (32bit and 64bit on Mandrake/Mandriva, Suse, Debian, Ubuntu). However, I am experiencing some problems now -- not during compiling and installing R itself but with the manuals. Maybe someone can help me with it? I tried to find some information in the

Abiword as test of Wine
One problem with Wine has been that there were few serious open source win32 applications out there to test Wine with (ok, maybe my opinions are from 1997 :-) In any case, we have some great open source Win32 applications to test with. AbiWord is one. I just tried installing AbiWord 0.9 under the latest Codeweavers preview. The install worked -- but generated about a billion warnings of the

insert eps into microsft word
it seems that word can not read encapsupalted postscripts generated by R I used this command postscript("output.eps",horizontal=F,onefile=TRUE) since onefile=TRUE produces an encapsualted postscript actually what I'm trying to do is to insert the postsript file into a word document since other formats like jpeg and bmp do not reproduce the same quality like postscript formats any

antiword
Hi guys, I've been noticing more and more that antiword has trouble with many word documents. It may look like it's converted a document but leaves out headings and bits of text. I've been looking into getting openoffice to do it in headless mode but still have a way to go before it's stable. I was wondering if anyone else had any luck on this front? One quick fix I have found

controlling usage of digits & scientific notation in R plots; postscript margins
Dear R users: I assigned students to make some graphs and I'm having trouble answering some questions that they have. We are all working on R 2.1 on Fedora Core Linux 4 systems. 1. In the plot, the axis is not labeled by "numbers", but rather scientific notation like "-2e+08" or such. We realize that means -200,000,000. We want to beautify the plot. We would rather

Centos 6.3 - which repos to use?
I've just installed v6.3 as a desktop (from Centos-6.3-i386-LiveCD.iso) and to get the hang of the Centos approach and then hope to move on to a server. I've been using linux *buntu for 5 years. Hope i don't sound like a nit but i've got a little confused with the repos. Hoping someone would be kind enough just to clarify. This installation is for stability whilst installing the

error in building R-1.9.0 sources under Win32
I am trying to compile the R-dev sources on WinXP using mingw 3.1.0-1 and fpTeX 0.7. In the past I have been able to build the sources fine but now I receive an error in the process that I havent seen reported on the list before. Everything works fine until I get to 'make docs'. I now get the message below while building the R-admin manual (refman.pdf builds fine) and the make process

Problem with figure size when embedding fonts
Dear Colleagues: I need to make a graphic that uses the Nimbus rather than Helvetica font family so that the font can be embedded in the encapsulated postscript file. This is to satisfy a requirement from a journal for electronic submission of figures. I do the following: postscript('lowess.eps', onefile=FALSE, pointsize=18, horizontal=FALSE, family='NimbusSan')

mcmapply Core Usage
Hello, I have a minimal example that shows a problem I'm having with parallel processing. library(parallel) mcmapply(function(x, y) { print("Running") Sys.sleep(10) }, as.list(1:10), as.list(10:1), mc.cores = 16, SIMPLIFY = FALSE) I see "Running" printed once every ten seconds. I read the documentation for mcmapply, but I don't understand why it wouldn't

Random Count Generation with rnbinom

Latex Question
Here is how to print graphs for inclusion in Latex. First make sure you've got the graph you want. Do this by repeating and editing the command to make the graph, in the usual way. (Yes, I know Miktex is good, but it isn't as good as Emacs with ESS, although I admit that I could never configure Emacs properly on Windows - which was reason #23.5 for giving up Windows.) Second, say
