bash help please
I'd like to make MikTeX the default TeX package in 2.2.0, but we still need to let people use other packages. The problem is that MikTeX wants a command line option --include-directory $R_HOME/share/texmf, while other packages specify includes via environment variables, and barf when they see the unexpected option. The choice should be controlled by the user's settings in the MkRules

Rd2dvi pagination of index in pdf manual
I construct a pdf package manual in Windows 7 using R CMD Rd2dvi --pdf --no-preview [packagename] Page numbers are listed correctly under 'R topics documented' at the front, but incorrectly (offset by -2 pages) in the Index at the back. Following the hyperlinked page numbers in the Index takes you to the wrong page. 2 pages happens to be the length of the package overview man page inserted

how to not match partial names
Dear friends, How do I stop partial matching of list names? e.g., x <- list(AAAA="aaaaa", BBBBB="bbbbb") is.null(x$A) #returns FALSE even though there is no element A. if(is.null(x$A)) {result <- x$BBBB} else {result <- x$A} result #is aaaa even though there is no x$A element x <- list(CCCC="aaaaa", BBBBB="bbbbb") if(is.null(x$A))

Maths in R documentation (PR#523)
The document R-exts contains the following example of using mathematics in R documentation. \deqn{p(x) = {\lambda^x\ \frac{e^{-\lambda}}{x!}} {p(x) = lambda^x exp(-lambda)/x!} There is a syntax error in there, but that's not my point. The problem is that using "R CMD Rd2dvi" I find that putting the alternate forms of the equation on top of each other doesn't work.

Centos 6 Sendmail backup MX Config
Hi All, I'm just wanting to check that my understanding of the settings is correct as my web searches are finding a lot of dated information. If I want a Centos 6 sendmail system act as the secondary MX for domain bbbbb.co.uk do I just add a Connect:bbbbb.co.uk RELAY statement into /etc/mail/access and restart sendmail Obviously I have the DNS MX records for the domain are

Thanks Rowland - appreciated. I have checked the ldbsearch result and both groups look to be pretty much exactly the same to me, one of them is shown below (I have sanitised some of the output, replacing parts with 123/a/b/c, but the rest of the output is byte for byte as seen) In the time between posting my original message and checking again just now, however, I have the following additional

Samba client filesize problems
Filesize problems with samba client on Redhat 9 and W2k machine. The original smbclient did this so I upgraded to the latest, it didn't help. The server is W2k with an NTFS volume, these are video files - the windows software breaks the files at the 2G limit, but for some reason some are reported as 2G others as huge !! One day I might own 25T of disk, but not today. Anyone any ideas ?

Error using Rd2dvi on OSX
Hi, I run R 2.5.1 on Mac OS 10.4.10 and fail to build a package manual. Below is the transcript. The problem is a "pdflatex: command not found" error but I think that I have a fully working latex install (installed with iInstaller) as I use TeXShop with no problem. Could someone help? About the interaction A:B
Suppose, 'fr' is data.frame with columns 'Y', 'A' and 'B'. 'A' has levels 'Aa' 'Ab' and 'Ac', and 'B' has levels 'Ba', 'Bb', 'Bc' and 'Bd'. 'Y' columns are numbers. I tried the following three sets of commands. I understand that A*B is equivalent to A+B+A:B. However, A:B in A+B+A:B is
