Thanks! (was panel.axis() & grid/lattice settings)
Deepayan, Paul: Thanks very much for the very useful leads. I just spent some time this afternoon implementing your suggestions and my early test results are very encouraging. Paul, I understand the potential device re-sizing issue with the convert family of functions in grid, and will be in touch in case it becomes problematic for my applications. I very much look forward to your upcoming

Lattice: panel.superpose function does not pass subscripts and groups arguments (PR#2377)
Full_Name: Volker Franz Version: 1.5.1 OS: Debian-Linux Submission from: (NULL) (134.176.77.64) Hi, working with the panel.superpose function, I found out that this function does not pass the subscripts and groups arguments to panel.groups functions. In my view, this seems an unnecessary restriction, because the subscripts-mechanism which allows to access the original data should also work if

plot just one page of lattice plot
Great stuff, thanks. I'm copying this solution to R-help for reference. lattice::xyplot() with one factor for points and another for lines - solution
Hi: Yesterday, I posted a question regarding how to handle different graphical behavior between two factors in xyplot() [package lattice]. After a public and private reply from Deepayan Sarkar, the problem has been resolved nicely, including the addition of a stacked legend for the two factors in question. The latter requires package latticeExtra. library(lattice) library(latticeExtra) # Test

RE: new version of lattice
I'll get to it tomorrow afternoon or on Thursday (if my son isn't sick anymore). error in lattice formattedTicksAndLabels.Date (PR#9590)
Full_Name: James Szinger Version: 2.4.1 OS: linux and MacOS X Submission from: (NULL) (128.165.24.206) I'm trying to plot some data from the past 12 months and the lattice package is not labeling the time axis correctly. It shows only two labels instead of the expected 12. The base graphics get it right. I think the problem is the commented-out line in formattedTicksAndLabels.Date in

make a lattice dotplot with symbol size proportional to a variable in the plotted dataframe
Handling NSE in these kinds of examples is a pain in lattice. I would suggest using with() and dropping the data argument for simple examples, e.g., dd |> mutate(new.proportion = las/total, new.bubble = total/100) |> with(dotplot(agency ~ new.proportion, pch = 16, cex = new.bubble)) But if you care about multi-panel plots, you also need to be careful about making sure that the

error bars in lattice xyplot *with groups*
Hi all, I'm trying to plot error bars in a lattice plot generated with xyplot. Deepayan Sarkar has provided a very useful solution for simple circumstances (https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2005-October/081571.html), yet I am having trouble getting it to work when the "groups" setting is enabled in xyplot (i.e. multiple lines). To illustrate this, consider the singer data

I assume you want the 'v' variable in panel.abline() to be interpreted in the context of your x-axis, which here represents a factor variable. Unless two factor variables have the same

Error when creating layouts with partly filled pages within lattice
Dear all, Please take my apologies if that has already been asked - at least I couldn't find it in the archives. When trying to specify a layout within library lattice, i.e. using xyplot, I get an error when the prepanel function tries to subscript the automatically generated x.limits. This seems to appear if the last page wouldn't be filled completely, i.e. there would be space left

More help with Lattice
Hi: Thanks a lot to Deepayan Sarkar, author of lattice I think, who solved my first query. I am afraid that I have another one. I am plotting several mutipanels boxplots (with one conditioning variable) on one page. The x, y and conditioning variable are all continuous variables. The x and conditioning variables are transformed to shingles before being plotted. The plot looks nice but there

Confidence interval bars on Lattice barchart with groups
I am trying to add confidence (error) bars to lattice barcharts (and dotplots, and xyplots). I found this helpful message from Deepayan Sarkar and based teh code below on it: http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/50299.html However, I can't get it to work with groups, as illustrated. I am sure I am missing something elementary, but I am unsure what. Using R 2.1.1 on various

RE: Lattice update error (PR#7423)
OK. Sorry to have bothered you. It may well have been the namespace issue, a subtlety that I would have been unaware of. Thanks. Lattice: correct use of ltransform3dto3d to plot a surface under a cloud ?
Hello list! I am trying to project the fitted surface to a 3d plot of the data, similar to figures 13.7 or 6.5 in Deepayan Sarkar's "Lattice, Multivariate Data Visualization with R", but replace the contour/map lines with "levelplot". Problem is I can't get the color regions to line up after the coordinate transformation. Is there a simple solution my geometry

specify lattice black-and-white theme
Is there a simple way to specify a theme or trellis (lattice) parameters so that, in a multipanel (conditioned) plot, there is no color and in the strips there is no shading? This is the effect achieved on page 124 of Deepayan Sarkar's "Lattice" (figure 7.2). I managed to trick lattice into making a grayscale plot on my interactive display as follows: > graphics.off() >

error bars in lattice barchart
Hi all, I've read the emails of Dan, Deepayan and Sundar about adding error bars to the lattice plots ( https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2006-October/114883.html), but I still have the problem when I want to adding error bars to barchart. I tried both the solution of Deepayan and Sundar but without luck. Here is my code (I changed prepanel.ci and panel.ci a little to plot bars
