[Mac OS X 10.4] object R_loess_raw not found
Hello,
Since I (finally) upgraded to 10.4 "Tiger", I've been experiencing
some strange behaviour with dynamic libraries.
When I now launch R, and try to use the loess() function from the
stats package, I get the following:

Update: Is there an implementation of loess with more than 3 parametric predictors or a trick to a similar effect?
Dear R developers!
Considering I got no response or comments in the general r-help forum
so far, perhaps my question is actually better suited for this list? I
have added some more hopefully relevant technical details to my
original post (edited below).
Any comments gratefully received!
Best regards,
David Kreil.

lm length
Hi all,
I wanto to run a plot about the levels of a variable parting on an ols
regression. The regression in done on the rate of return of the variable.
Imagine R_{t}=a+b*R_{t-1}
So If P, the "estimated" price would be P_{t}=P_{t-1}*R_{t}
Imagine that I obtain lm fitted values and the original
R_{t}, R_{t-1} are [1000,1] dimmension...
How it is posible to obtain also 1000,1 fitted

computing functions with Euler's number (e^n)
I am trying to create a set of wavelets in frequency space--namely Cauchy
wavelets for an intensity analysis (von Tscharner, 2000). The wavelets are
defined by the following formula:
[(f/cf)^(cf*scale)]*[e^((-f/cf)+1)^(cf*scale)]
where *f *is frequency of length *n*, *cf* is center frequency (defined
below) and is an array of *j *columns and *n* row, and scale is a constant.
cf = (1/scale)*(j

R-specific environment variables: Naming convention?
In base R, there are lots of environment variables with either prefix
'R_' or '_R_', e.g. R_ENABLE_JIT and _R_RNG_VERSION_. I always
considered R_* variables to be "public" and _R_*_ ones being
"internal" but realized I don't have a reference for this. Is this
true, or is there another reason? Is the difference between the two
kinds documented anywhere?

Long equation in documentation
I have a long equation that I need to break in the R documentation of a package or it trails off the right hand side of the page. Here's the formula:
\deqn{Cov(r_{ist}, r_{iuv})= [.5\rho_{ist}\rho_{iuv}(\rho_{isu}^2 + \rho_{isv}^2 + \rho_{itu}^2 + \rho_{itv}^2) + \rho_{isu}\rho_{itv}+ \rho_{isv}\rho_{itu}-(\rho_{ist}\rho_{isu}\rho_{isv} + \rho_{its}\rho_{itu}\rho_{itv}) +

Dear List,
Having had my appetite sufficiently whetted by Prof. Ripley's email
about the new graphics capabilities in Unixes, I wanted to try them out.
I updated to svn r44608, configured with the following options:
R is now configured for x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu

R crash with ATLAS precompiled Rblas.dll on Windows XP Core2 Duo
I noticed a problem using R 2.7.1 on Windows XP SP2 with the precompiled
Atlas Rblas.dll. Running the code below causes R to crash. I started R
using Rgui --vanilla and am using the precompiled Atlas Rblas.dll from
cran.fhcrc.org dated 17-Jul-2007 05:04 for Core2 Duo.
The code that causes the crash:
x <- rnorm(100)
y <- rnorm(100)
z <- rnorm(100)
loess(z ~ x * y)
loess(z ~ x) does

dnbinom(,size<1,)=0 (PR#842)
This came up on r-help but indicates a bug.
dnbinom(x,n,p) calls dbinom_raw(n-1,...)
which returns 0 for n<1.

help: ks test fit Poisson-ness (D and p) with one sample data
for a silly question, wondering how to test fit with the one sample as follow.
I have read _fitting distributions with R_, but that doesn't answer my specific question.
inclined to use Kolmogorov-Smirnov D, and its associative p value.
much appreciation!

a question about linear mixed model in R
Dear all,
I have a somewhat unusual linear mixed model that I can't seem
to code in lme. It's only unusual in that one random effect is
applied only to some of the observations (I have an indicator
variable
that specifies which observations have this random effect).
The model is:
X_hijk = alpha_h + h * b_i + r_(ij) + e_hijk , where
h = 0 or 1 (indicator)
i = 1, ..., N
j = 1,

Do your 32768 registers also have sub registers?
I can't tell you exactly what to change. I'm not familiar with the code. I
would just be running grep or something.

I don't understand this
For reasons which I'll spare you, I'm writing a program to analyse
R source code. This has led me to probe some of the darker corners
of R syntax to find out what is supposed to happen.
Now, from reading the R documentation (and the New S book &c) I know
perfectly well that
f(a, b, etc) <- x
is supposed to turn into
a <- "f<-"(a, b, etc, value=x)

Efficient sampling from a discrete distribution in R
Hello r-help,
As far as I've seen, there is no function in R dedicated to sampling
from a discrete distribution with a specified mass function. The
standard library doesn't come with anything called rdiscrete or rpmf,
and I can't find any such thing on the cheat sheet or in the
Probability Distributions chapter of _An Introduction to R_. Googling
also didn't bring back anything.
