Some R-Tcl/Tk-BWidget newbie questions.
Dear list, Could somebody who is more experienced with the Tcl/Tk interface from R please help me clarify the issues I've put below with ### --> tags? Several things go wrong, and it's probably because of messy code, but I have a difficult time finding out what is the cause. Thanks very much, JeeBee. require(tcltk) || stop("Package tcltk is not available.") # Add path to

disappearing dialog boxes when using tcltk
Dear all, I'm trying to use tcltk to build a small user-interface and couter the problem: It seems that sometimes the dialog box will be minimized automatically though I want it to be on top of the screen all the time. For example, when runing the following code, if you type in "a1", "a2", "a3", etc when being asked for an integer, the program is supposed to

Retrieving data from a tcl /tk function
Hello, I am sorry if this is an answered question, but I did my homework for a long while and couldn't figure out a way to retrieve data entry from a model dialog. In one of the examples compiled by James Wettenhall: odalDialog <- function(title, question, entryInit, entryWidth = 20, returnValOnCancel = "ID_CANCEL") { dlg <- tktoplevel() tkwm.deiconify(dlg)

[macosx] improving quartz & Aqua Tk behaviour outside of RGui
Hello, On Mac OS X, certain Aqua/Quartz UI functionality requires an application to be launched from within an app bundle, or (alternatively) requires a Carbon application with a resource fork. Playing with the wxWidgets distribution, I discovered that it is quite easy and transparent to make such a Carbon app from (I guess) any command line application. When applied to the R executable called

initial value in ComboBox tkwidget
Hello, I took me very long to find out how to set the initial value in the combobox widget in tk (see the example below). My question is now : Why does "textvariable" has to be a tclVar while "values" can be a normal vector? My next question is: How could I have known this much earlier? Is there a documentation for the tcl/tk usage in R? I know a lot of website with example.

Problem with geometry manager in TclTK
Hello, everyone. I have the following problem with TclTk: I create some windows and want to change their position with geometry manage (sometimes they will be centered, sometimes not). If the toplevel is created and its dimensions are gathered via 'tkwinfo', I get (usually) correct values. However, if this window is created by a function (in the following example, by 'ask.format')

Changing text in a tkentry widget
I searched the web and the list archives for a solution to this, but didn't see anything, so here goes. I'm new to tcltk. I'm trying to change the contents of a tkentry widget when a button is pressed. Once I get that working, the widget will be read only to the user. Here is some toy code: ############### require(tcltk) thisEnv=environment() tt<-tktoplevel() Name <-

Dropdown boxes in tcltk and R
Hello, I'm very much a newbie in R and more so in tcltk so apologies if this question is stupid. Basically I am trying to use the combobox example found here: http://bioinf.wehi.edu.au/~wettenhall/RTclTkExamples/DropDown.html . What I want to do is in that example get fruitChoice as a variable in R in general. When I run that code, however, and the ask for fruitChoice it says

Building tkentry dynamicly
Dear R-users, I would like to build N "tkentry" compounds in the same window, with default text for each. As N is variable I need to construct them in an iterative way : library(tcltk) main<-tktoplevel() tktitle(main)<-"My Tool" filenames<-c("toto","tata","titi") N<-length(filenames) for (i in 1: N) {

stuck tcltk scrollbars under Windows XP
Dear R-devel list members, I've encountered a problem with my Rcmdr package under Windows XP and could use some advice: The Rcmdr package uses the tcltk package to create menus and dialog boxes. My standard procedure when a dialog is created is to grab the focus -- e.g., by tkfocus(top) tkgrab(top) (Here, top is a top-level window -- say, containing one or more scrollbars.)

R tcl/tk
Friends: I am a long-time R user, learning tcl/tk, and am tying myself in knots over something that should be simple. I want to create a frame and put that frame inside the toplevel frame. This works (i.e. it places text in col 1, and the corresponding entry box in column 2) and later frame.2 resides where it should in the toplevel frame. tkgrid(tklabel(frame.2, text="FACTOR column

Help with readBin
I'm trying to read a binary file created by a fortran code using readBin and readChar. Everything reads fine (integers and strings) except for double precision numbers, they are read as huge or very small number (1E-250,...). I tried various endianness, swap, But nothing has worked so far. I also tried on R 64 bit for linux and windows (R 2.14) and R 2.11 on windows XP 32 bit. Any help would

Hello, I am trying to write a tcltk based program that plots/manipulates xts/xoo time series objects. I have the code I used from ## http://bioinf.wehi.edu.au/~wettenhall/RTclTkExamples/tkrplot.html : ## require(quantmod) require(tcltk) library(tkrplot) Sys.setenv(TZ="GMT") getSymbols("^GSPC", from = "1960-01-01") Myhscale <- 2.5 # Horizontal scaling

RWiki, tcltk and plot
I think I - almost - got the knack for GUI programming using the tcltk library. Maybe I will update the RWiki with this: # ################################################# # library(tcltk) # # Create some matrix - nothing about tcltk here # matrix <- cbind(rnorm(100), rpois(100, lambda=10), runif(100), rt(100, df=2), rt(100, df=4)) colnames(matrix) <- c("Normal",

autofill for a tkentry field
Hello all, I'm experimenting with tlk/tk and I find it very useful. I would like to have the text of a tkentry be automatically filled when the user starts typing, according to a predetermined list. I've found a solution on the tcl wiki pages, but I don't quite know how to translate it in R... Here is the tcl code: http://wiki.tcl.tk/13267 And here is my code that does not work.
