rJava fails compilation on R-2.9.1 but not R-2.7.1 on Debian Lenny
I have been futzing around for days tying to get rJava to install on
my freshly build Debian Lenny installation. I have R-2.9.1 installed
from source in my R_HOME directory and R-2.7.1 installed via apt-get
install r-recommended. I was tried many different things, but by
accident started up R-2.7.1 as root and viola, successful install. I
immediately exited out of R-2.7.1 and started R-2.9.1 as

Problem installing rJava under FreeBSD
Hi there
I am setting up a FreeBSD server for my research department at university,
and one of my teachers needs specifically R modules like tm, RWeka, rJava
and the like.
I have installed FreeBSD 8.0/i386 and applied the relevant security patches
as well as the native FreeBSD JDK 1.6 with its latest patchset.
I have installed R 2.11 and enabled Java support on it. Now, when trying to

RJava question(class not found with rJava's vm, though found with alternate vm)
Not sure if this the right place, but I can't seem to subscribe to the rJava
mailing list. Sorry for the noise.
I have a jar file in the CLASSPATH variable. On running .jinit and checking
.jclassPath, i can see the jar file containing the class. Yet when trying to
instantaite the class, i get a class not found error.
Now If if, create my own vm (see below), and then run .jinit (which will

using R in a java application
Dear All,
I'd like to write a little application in java wich should pass some commands and data to R and displays the results (tables and charts) in a java frame. First I wanted to work with Omegahat's SJava but had lots of issues already at the installation.
Then I heard some rumors that SJava generally is not a very active project and runs rather buggy (that's true?). So my

JGR, Java and Kubuntu 7.04 ...
R-ists
Yet again Java rears its ugly head.
I have Kubuntu 7.04 running the Kubuntu-repository version of R 2.4.1-1.
Yes it isn't the very latest version but this is not the issue here.
I want a Windows-like environment and everyone is talking about JGR.
I downloaded it and installed it along with rJava. Both compile and install
satisfactorily.
But when I come to run it:

Can't mix high level and low level plot functions.
Hey R-Comunity,
I'd like to print out an histogram of some experimental data and add a
smooth curve of a normal distribution with an ideally generated
population having the same mean and standard deviation like the
experimental data.
The experimental data is set as vector x and its name is set to
group.name. I paint the histogram as follows:

How to convert list elements to data.frames or vectors?
Dear R mailing-list comunity!
I'm currently trying to implement an R method. I have two sets of data
that I convert into a data.frame each. These data.frames I'd like to
append to a list:
# generate a list
listTable<-list()
# add one set of data
x<-1000 ;y<-1 ;listTable[[length(listTable) + 1]] <-
data.frame(matrix(rnorm(x*y), nrow=y)); rm(x); rm(y)
# add another set of

Problems with xlsx and rjava
Hi,
I keep getting the below error regarding rJava which is required by package xlsx (I have used it in the past to directly import data from Excel 2010).
I was on R version 2.15.0 when I was getting this error this morning. So I upgraded to 2.15.1 but still the same problem. I tried unstalling and reinstalling xlsx and even rJava directly from the source as indicated here:
