rw2010alpha
Until recently R 2.1.0 was called rw2010dev. I just visited
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/rdevel.html
and noticed its now called rw2010alpha, not rw2010dev. I would like
to use it without downloading all the libraries over again.
Can I
- just rename my rw2010dev folder (Windows XP) to
rw2010alpha and then install rw2010alpha to that? or
- install it in a separate

strange error with rw2010dev
With rw2010dev I get a strange protect(): protection stack overflow
error with a small data frame which otherwise is usable:
If anybody wants to have a look I can provide an RData file
with the problematic data frame.
Doesn't seem to be necessary, the following simulated example
generates the error:

Version names
I have Windows XP build scripts that look for R in a variety
of folders and if multiple ones are found, takes the last
one. For example, I currently have the following
in \Program Files\R :
rw1060
rw1062
rw1071
rw1071beta
rw1081
rw1090
rw1090dev
rw1091
rw1091pat
rw2000
rw2001beta
Note that it currently correctly gets rw2001beta but if I
add rw2001 then it will not pick it up since

Making Package, Chm error, Html Help Workshop [solved]
Dear Uwe Ligges,
There was really a problem with an irregular name of a help topic (%cin% - the % was the problem) as you said. With the new R Version and with the corrected Rd file all works fine.
Thanks a lot for your help!

Help building OPUS library using FIXED_POINT option
Hi,
We are rebasing our audio compression subsystem using OPUS rather than SPEEX. The platform is Android but this piece is written in C code: we need to support armv5/armv7/x86 architectures.... and we use the released opus-1.1beta package from here<http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/opus/opus-1.1-beta.tar.gz>.
A lot of our OPUS build system + code to drive the audio compression has been

comma as decimal separator in plots
Hi,
Some time ago I asked about how to use comma as decimal separator in plots
and Mr. Paul Murrell wrote:

You could try something with axis() and chartr(), like ...
par(mfrow=c(2,1))

plot(1:10/11, rep(1, 10), main="Customised X-Axis", axes=F)
axis(1, at=pretty(1:10/11),

odfWeave \Sexpr
Dear All,
Using odfWeave is working fine for me using code chunks <<...>>= ... @
But the inline \Sexpr{date()} is not evaluated and returns again
\Sexpr{date()} instead of "Thu Apr 17 18:15:47 2008".
What might be the reason for that, what do I have to look for?
I'm using Windows XP, R 2.6.1, odfWeave_0.7.3 and OpenOffice 2.4.

Must packages in the Depends field of the DESCRIPTION file have
NAMESPACES? I haven't seen this explicitly indicated anywhere.
I am writing a small package and find that when I add the abind
package to the list of the Depends field, I get an error in
R CMD check of the build.

Installing packages from source code
Hi everybody,
I have trouble in installing packages from source code by following Section
5.1 in manual R-admin.pdf . I am using R 2.1.0 and Win NT.
Following the Windows toolset section in the manual, I download the tool
set package from: http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/tools.zip
and unzip under C:\tools
I also downloaded Perl (Windows Port) and installed it.

Editing Strings in R
I was wondering if there is a way of editting strings in R. I
have a set of strings and each set is a row of numbers and paranthesis.
For example the first row is:
(0 2)(3 4)(7 9)(5 9)(1 5)
and I have a thousand or so such rows. I was wondering how I
could get the corresponding string obtained by adding 1 to all the
numbers in the string above.

"ACCTGMX" to "1223400" in R?
Hi,
I am a newbie in R and was working on some DNA data represented as strings
of A,C,T and G (also wild-character like M and X). I use the Bioconductor
package in R. Currently I need to convert a string of the form "ACCTGMX" to
"1223400" i.e. A is replaced by 1, C with 2, T with 3, G with 4 and any
other character with a 0. I checked with 'replace' and also with a

Read PNG file and display with more than 256 colors RGDAL
Hello list
I am trying to use a Googlemaps tile (png file, 640 X 640 px tile) as a background to a plot and have been using the rgdal library to read in the PNG file (modified from code in the RGoogleMaps package). This works OK. My problem is is that the SGDF2PCT function in rgdal seems to be limited to 256 colors and this is introducing (I think) some degradation to the image which appears on

I looked for evidence that this is supposed to happen, as it was news to

none of which mention this AFAICS, and all seem to be written assuming an
existing library tree.
DId you find something to suggest otherwise? Clearly no alpha/beta

Encrypt/decrypt in R
Hi all,
Does any one know of any encryption/decryption algorithms in R? I'm
not looking for anything robust - I want some way of printing output
to the screen that the user can't read immediately, but can decrypt a
little later. The main thing I don't want to the user to see is a
number, so (e.g.) ROT13 isn't appropriate.
