tcltk resizing when using tkgrid for layout
I've been able to figure out on my own how to do what I need in the
largely undocumented tcltk package, but I've finally hit a wall. I can't
even think of any sufficiently specific search terms to use for this.
I'm trying to make the widgets in my tk window resize when the window is
resized by clicking and dragging on its corners or edges. Instead they
stay exactly where they

Problem with geometry manager in TclTK
Hello, everyone.
I have the following problem with TclTk: I create some windows and want to
change their position with geometry manage (sometimes they will be centered,
sometimes not).
If the toplevel is created and its dimensions are gathered via 'tkwinfo', I
get (usually) correct values. However, if this window is created by a
function (in the following example, by 'ask.format')

tk non-widget commands (esp. update and winfo)
Hi,
I've been playing with the tcltk package. It's very nice to have
access to buttons, menus etc. now. Thank you!
Alas, I also have questions: In Tcl everything is a string [*]. This
is not the case in R, of course. So why are return values of tk
commands still strings? (Is there any other reason than speed or
"package is work in progress"?)
Example:

possible tcltk event loop problem
Dear list members,
Rich Heiberger reported to me last week that the Messages window in the
Rcmdr GUI was freezing -- that is, messages posted to this window didn't
appear -- under Windows and R 2.8.0. I was able to confirm this problem on
three Windows systems, one using Vista and the other two XP. In each case, I
used R 2.8.0 and Rcmdr 1.4-4 (the current version). The problem doesn't

gif, jpeg and png image files reader AND tcltk image
Hi all,
Roger Peng and Jason Turner's suggestion with ImageMagick seem to be the
simplest "dirty" way
to get the problem solved.
But I ran into yet another interesting but quite round-about way to solve
the problem (partially). Through tcltk package, one can read in the gif
image with

help: how to use tkevent.generate(...)
Hello,
I use package "tcltk" to do some GUI programming, and want to find a
function which can do the operation "click a button", just like using
a mouse to click. If tkevent.generate can do that? I tried it as
below, but failed. Please give me a hint!
tt <- tktoplevel()
tkwm.title(tt,"Simple Dialog")
onOK <- function(){print("OK")}

Changing text in a tkentry widget
I searched the web and the list archives for a solution to this, but
didn't see anything, so here goes. I'm new to tcltk. I'm trying to
change the contents of a tkentry widget when a button is pressed. Once I
get that working, the widget will be read only to the user. Here is some
toy code:

require(tcltk)
thisEnv=environment()

tclServiceMode: stop Tcl/Tk from updating
In Windows, Tcl/Tk programs running under the tcltk package can update
too frequently: for exmaple, we might go through a long sequence of
operations to construct a complex display, and in Windows each addition
will be shown separately.
To work around this, I've added a function "tclServiceMode" which serves
as an R interface to the "Tcl_SetServiceMode" function in the

tk mouse cursor icon widget tkwinfo tkfocus questions
1. I want to change the mouse cursor over my window into a wait/watch
icon while R computes. Can this be done directly?
Some ancient tcltk mailing lists said change the cursor over every
widget in the window:
foreach widget [winfo children $window] {
$widget config -cursor watch
}
To do this I'll need a list of

I'm using R 2.0.0 with the latest Rcmdr package installed from CRAN, on

Copy & Paste from tktext on Mac
Hi there,
a text Window is supposed to map the shortcuts for copying and pasting
(<Ctrl-C>, <Ctrl-V>) automatically.
I'm working under Mac OS X and my text window doesn't really map these
functions automatically - it works fine under Windows. Is there an
easy way to map copy&paste functions to a text window under Mac OS X?
This is what I'm doing with my text

tcl/tk return problem
Hello,
I'm very new in working with tcl/tk in R and have a problem which will
probably
sound silly to most of you.
Here is the code I have problems with:
readcelfiles <- function()
{
require(tcltk)
tt <- tktoplevel()
tkgrid(tklabel(tt,text="Choose a directory!"))
OnOK <- function()
{
fileDir<-tclvalue(tkchooseDirectory())

R tcl/tk
Friends:
I am a long-time R user, learning tcl/tk, and am tying myself in knots over
something that should be simple.
I want to create a frame and put that frame inside the toplevel frame.
This works (i.e. it places text in col 1, and the corresponding entry box in
column 2) and later frame.2 resides where it should in the toplevel frame.
tkgrid(tklabel(frame.2, text="FACTOR column

Next, I show the function

Display a jpeg inside a widget which already has text
Hi
I am trying to insert a jpeg into a widget I have created.
I have used this link
http://bioinf.wehi.edu.au/~wettenhall/RTclTkExamples/showImage.html to
display a jpeg inside a newly created widget but would like some info on how
to insert into a pre existing widget.
This is my code below for my first widget.

tcl tk: set the position button
Dear Rodrigo,
Try tkwm.geometry(win1, "-0+0"), which should position win1 at the top
right.
I hope this helps,

fancier plotting
Hi
thank you for talking the time to help me with this.
I have a sequence of numbers in a file and an equal sequence of various character, say(a b c d) each occurs more than once. I need to plot the numbers so that numbers corresponding to a in the other sequence would have green dots, those corresponding to b a red dot, nothing on c and blue square for d. i.e
