motivation for setRepositories and chooseCRANmirror
I have some questions and observations about these:
Will these replace manually setting options(CRAN), which doesn't work in
R-2.1.0?
In R-2.1.0, setRepositories() looks to see if options("repos") contains
a CRAN entry and will not override that CRAN entry even if the
$R_HOME/etc/repositories file (which setRepositories reads from)
contains a CRAN entry. Why is this? The user

CRAN Mirror definition error.
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has run across this problem in the past and might be able to suggest a solution.
I did a review of the FAQ's link trying to find a topic that closely related to the experience I was having, however I didn't see
anything that might help in diagnosing the problem.
While invoking the options under the "package" menu I get the following errors:

Installing bioconduction packages in connection with loading an R package
Dear all,
My gRbase package imports functionality from the bioconductor packages graph, Rgraphviz and RBGL.
To make installation of gRbase easy, I would like to have these bioconductor packages installed in connection with installation of gRbase, but to do so the user must use setRepositories() to make sure that R also installs packages from bioconductor.
Having to call setRepositories causes

Setting bioconductor repository in .Rprofile. Is there a permanent way?
I currently set the Bioconductor repository in my .Rprofile using this
code (which needs editing for every version number change of
Bioconductor):

Problem with R-2.1.0: install.packages() doesn't work
I installed R-2.1.0 from source on a Linux box running Red Hat

is fine.

Problem in loading all packages all at once
Hi All
Please see the Rprofile file which i have modified as follows and after
that when I start R then I see that R says to me "TRUE" for all the
packages implying that all loaded at once.
But when i try to use commands as simple as help("lm"), it doesnt work nor
any of the menu "Packages" is not working.
Although the regression using lm ( Y ~ X ) is working

Combo Box Wdget for Tcl/Tk under R
Hi,
I have two questions:
First, does anyone know how to put a combobox inside a GUI made with Tcl/Tk ? I think there isn't a simple way to do this (a command like tkcombobox()!), but is it possible to write a more complex code to achieve this ?
Second, when I put two listboxes in the same window or frame (even in two different toplevel windows), I cannot select things in the two lists

tcltk scrollbar
The following code should give me (at least that's what I think) two list
boxes with their individual scrollbars. But instead both scrollbars stick to
the same listbox even though they work as they should (scroll individual
listboxes). When I remove all the widgets on top everything works perfectly.
Any help would be highly apprecciated.
ps: all subsequent listboxes and scrollbars work

Proxy Under Mac OS X
Dear R programmers,
I can only config. proxy under Mac OS X terminal and launch R under Terminal by
Terminal:
export http_proxy="http://un:pw at proxy.com:port"
Under R:
>chooseCRANmirror(graphics=FALSE)
>update.packages()
I don't know how to config this in R for Mac OS X Aqua GUI.
I checked the relevant document but no specific steps for Mac OS X.

tklistbox...
Hi everyone,
I have different listboxes in the same toplevel window.
The problem is, if I select (by left clicking) one of those listbox
elements, the current selection in the other listboxes is cleared!
Anybody knows how I can prevent this?
Thanks,

I just successfully installed R 2.8.0 (under Windows XP SP2, 1GB RAM) and wanted to run update.packages.

ctc package
Dear R-helpers,
I would like to export hierarchical clusters
e.g. fit <- hclust(d, method="ward") in the newick format
write(hc2Newick(fit),file='hclust.newick')
Searching for a possibility I found this solution in the package ctc
(http://www.bioconductor.org/packages/bioc/html/ctc.html). However,
neither from this site nor via CRAN it is possible to install the
package.

SUGGESTION: Option to have menu() and select.list() to use stderr (or even "prompt" output)
SEND TO STDERR:
Currently utils::menu() and utils::select.list() with graphics=FALSE
queries the user via the standard output (stdout). I'd like to
suggest to do this via standard error (stderr) instead, or at least
have an option to choose which output stream.
If they would send to stderr, they could also be used in various
report generators that capture stdout and redirect to the generated
