SAS Macros for R Users Only
I think SAS Macros has capability to call R, and execute it without it being in the picture anywhere. So you can use SAS Macros in a file called R.sas In this you can create a macro called %Describe that can call R , load Hmisc ,run the describe function Note you will need repeated use of %put in this %describe for the mapping to take place Use %INCLUDE to include that file in all SAS

Which JAGS interface to use?
Frank (or anyone else), can you offer any comments comparing runjags, R2jags, rjags ? I couldn't find any vignettes, nothing except a brief mention on Task Views. /usr/lib/R/library vs /usr/local/lib/R/site-library
I would appreciate getting a clarification of /usr/lib/R/library vs /usr/local/lib/R/site-library. I am running R 1.8 on Debian Linux. On one occasion doing update.packages() resulted in versions of one or more libraries being placed in one of these directories without removing the old version, and the old version took precedence over the new. I'm sorry I did not save the steps I used. I

R in the NY Times-IAsians perspective
R and its GUI Rattle helped me establish a data mining consulting startup on my own, without taking bank credit . People I met on the forum and especially books like rforsasandspssusers.com/ <http://rforsasandspssusers.com/> helped me ease the transition to the new Object Oriented method from the earlier - even a monkey can create shakespeare if he types enough kind of analytics software.

Issue tracking in packages [was: Re: [R] change in, read.spss, package foreign?]
I would vote for allowing a URL or external file name in in DESCRIPTION, whose contents could be automatically displayed for the user when needed. Our changelogs are automatically generated by CVS and are on the web. -- Frank E Harrell Jr Professor and Chair School of Medicine Department of Biostatistics Vanderbilt University

normality tests [Broadcast]
The normality of the residuals is important in the inference procedures for the classical linear regression model, and normality is very important in correlation analysis (second moment)... New versions of Hmisc and Design on CRAN
New versions of source packages for Hmisc and Design are available from CRAN for R 1.9 on Linux/Unix. Knowing Uwe Ligges, a Windows binary is not far behind. Changelogs are at http://biostat.mc.vanderbilt.edu/twiki/bin/view/Main/ChangelogHmisc and http://biostat.mc.vanderbilt.edu/twiki/bin/view/Main/ChangelogDesign . Sweave template
Dear Group, I have made significant improvements to our Sweave template, have made the template self-contained (i.e., you can run it yourself and it will find the datasets it needs), and have included the output pdf file. This is at http://biostat.mc.vanderbilt.edu/SweaveTemplate . You will see in the pdf file the enhancements in how R code is pretty-printed, and I have added an example

Roadmap for selecting an approach to analyzing repeated measures data
Dear Group, At http://biostat.mc.vanderbilt.edu/tmp/summary.pdf I have put a draft of a roadmap for choosing a method for analyzing serial (longitudinal) data. If anyone has feedback about this, including adding criteria for judging methods that I may have missed, I would appreciate hearing from you. How to enforce location of installation of downloaded packages
Using R on Linux I want to force downloaded packages to go into /usr/local/lib/R/site-library. I have an .Rprofile file in my home directory containing the following: options(help_type='html', browser='chromium-browser', repos='http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/languages/R/CRAN', lib='/usr/local/lib/R/site-library') But sometimes install.packages (with R run as
