p-level in packages mgcv and gam
Hi, I am fairly new to GAM and started using package mgcv. I like the fact that optimal smoothing is automatically used (i.e. df are not determined a priori but calculated by the gam procedure). But the mgcv manual warns that p-level for the smooth can be underestimated when df are estimated by the model. Most of the time my p-levels are so small that even doubling them would not result

mgcv with discrete covariates, interaction term
I'm trying to build a model with an overall smooth function for all the data, plus an additional smooth function for *some* of the data. If "ind" is my indicator variable (0 for some x, 1 for others), I imagined I could write it like this: gam.obj <- gam(y ~ s(x) + ind*s(x)) but this does not work. Does mgcv have a way of doing this? How to define degree=1 in mgcv
Hi, all I have a question on mgcv and ns. Now I want to compare the results from glm, gam and ns. mgcv 1.7-12 crashes R
Dear community, I encountered a very disturbing phenomenon today: When I try to fit any gam() with mgcv R aborts. I could not find any post regarding this in google, which mades in even more strange.
