Question re: NA, NaNs in R
Hi R-devel,
I have a question about the differentiation between NA and NaN values
as implemented in R. In arithmetic.c, we have
int R_IsNA(double x)
{
if (isnan(x)) {
ieee_double y;
y.value = x;
return (y.word[lw] == 1954);
}
return 0;
}
ieee_double is just used for type punning so we can check the final
bits and see if they're equal to 1954; if they are, x is NA, if

Benefit of treating NA and NaN differently for numerics
Hello,
I notice in main/arithmetic.c, that NA and NaN are encoded
differently(since every numeric NA comes from R_NaReal which is
defined via ValueOfNA)
. What is the benefit of treating these two differently? Why can't NA
be a synonym for NaN?

Questions on extending Rcpp wrap and as with templates
Hi everyone,
I have been trying to extend Rcpp with my own wrap and as templates.
Two issues:
1) I need to explicitly call wrap. Is that expected?
So for example I wrote this specialization:

I am now up and running on RH 9. Went pretty smoothly (about 1 hour for
the clean install, though still doing some "tweaking".) There are
already about 40 update RPMS including a new kernel via RHN, which I
have installed.
Noticeable improvements since 8.0, especially with the new version of
XFree86, which yields sharper fonts that are now (with TTF fonts

In trying to run John Fox's new Rcmdr package on Redhat Linux 9,
I got this error message. The problem is in loading the tclck
library. library(tcltk) produces the same error. It has been
discussed before, e.g.,

Setting NA from C code
In the maps library, NA's are inserted between polygons so lines() can
be used to draw all polygons at once. The code to do it is like this:
*x++ = NA_REAL;
*y++ = NA_REAL;
where x and y are declared as
double *x, *y, *range;
and are the arguments passed in through a .C call.
However, the values show up in R as -6.62314033633867e-229 instead of

libc6-xen not used on AMD Geode LX system
Hi,
I'm trying to install xen+Debian Etch on a Geode LX system. Xen
boots fine, but although the package "libc6-xen" is installed I have a
large number of such errors:
4gb seg fixup, process syslogd (pid 1878), cs:ip 73:b7f24610
All processes triggers it, and from what I've found on the web it's

speed up R_IsNA, R_IsNaN for vector input
Dear R developers,
I spotted that R_isNA and R_IsNaN could be improved when applied on a
vector where we could take out small part of their logic, run it once,
and then reuse inside the loop.
I setup tiny plain-C experiment. Taking R_IsNA, R_IsNaN from R's
arithmetic.c, and building R_vIsNA and R_vIsNaN accordingly.
For double input of size 1e9 (having some NA and NaN) I observed

How to safely using OpenMP pragma inside a .C() function?
I am trying to parallelize part of a C function that is called from R (via
.C) using OpenMP's "parallel for" pragma. I get mixed results: some runs
finish with no problem, but some lead to R crashing after issuing a long
error message involving memory violations.
I found this post, which describes how a .Call() function can be made to
avoid crashing R by raising the stack limit:

R 3.2.2 - make check and install package hang
Hello Everyone,
After trying several ways to compile R 3.2.2 without luck, I?m reaching out for help.
The ?make check? does not hanges for some reason and when
trying to install a package it cannot list the download sites (see below).
What could be the problem?

Problems with R-0.65.0
Hello,
I installed the new release 0.65.0 of R on our local Solaris system. As I
already (and sucessfully) installed the 0.64.0 and 0.64.1 version of R, I
hadn't had any trouble during the installation. But as I've started R in

Kernel panic while compiling kernel
I know you Xen developers are beginning to hate me ;) but...
While trying to compile 2.4.24 under DOM0, quickly after issuing ''make dep'' I
got:

I suspect this address probably isn''t to helpful but this is all I have. I am
