Package that does not work until I re write the exactly the same code
Hi the list, I am writing a package in S4 and I do not manage to understand a bug. The "R CMD check" and the "R CMD build" both work. Here is links to the package (not on CRAN yet for the raison that I explain bellow): http://christophe.genolini.free.fr/aTelecharger/kml_0.5.zip http://christophe.genolini.free.fr/aTelecharger/kml_0.5.tar.gz Then I install the package and I

setMethod confusion
Hello I've checked through previous postings but don't see a fully equivalent problem-just a few hints. I have been trying to set a new method for the existing function "table" or "as.data.frame.table" for my class "tfSites". Taking out all the useful code and just returning the input class I get the error setMethod("table",

setMethod confusion -best reference for S4 programming
Thanks I think you have both answered my question (reckon Ill go S3 on that). As an adjunct to this do you know what might be the best reference to the S4 methods current implementation. I have ordered the Chambers book "Programming with Data", and I have a short tutorial-- "S4 Classes in 15 pages, more or less". Have I missed any other useful resources? Stephen Henderson

problems trying to extend a class
Hi all, I have been using for quite a long time a script where a class extends another one (without trouble). But I now have problems of that kind while trying to run the script : Error in insertMethod(methods, sig, args, def, TRUE) : inserting method corresponding to empty signature I think this may be because the way I wrote the scripts could be deprecated. Indeed I recently

S4 coercion
I am extending a DBI connection by setClass("TSPostgreSQLConnection", contains=c("PostgreSQLConnection","TSdbOptions")) but the first time I use this I am getting a warning when it tries to coerce the TSPostgreSQLConnection to a PostgreSQLConnection. After the first use the warning stops, but the first warning is causing me problems when I do automatic checks

R not running under lldb? (osx)
Thanks Simon. I'll probably just switch to rocker when needing to debug in that case. Ubu edgy + latest CRAN R + Rmpi = no go
I'm just curious if anyone else has had problems with this configuration. I added the CRAN repository to apt and installed 2.5.0 with apt-get. I then did an install.packages("Rmpi") on cluster nodes. Rmpi loads and lamhosts() shows the nodes, but mpi.spawn.Rslaves() fails (something to do with temp files?). Rmpi works fine with the Edgy-native version of R (2.3.x) and installing

Reference Classes: replacing '.self' with an .Rda image of '.self' from within a method? (was replacing '.self' with an .Rda image of '.self' from within a method?)
Sorry guys, but I chose a really stupid name before (no "reference classes"). Hope it's okay to re-post. Cheers, Janko >>> ORIGINAL MESSAGE <<< Dear list, Is it possible to update or reassign '.self' with an image of '.self' (e.g. a locally stored .Rda file) from within a method? I know that this might sound akward, but here's the use

methods package: A _R_CHECK_LENGTH_1_LOGIC2_=true
I run checks with R-devel rev. 76756 on several of my packages which use S4, with no ill effects. With the risk of not adding much, it seems that Martin's example, which I repeat below, suggests a crossover between several "signatures" involved here - the signature of the generic, the signature of the method (the argument for setMethod()), and the signature of the function object

setAs between a new S4 class and "POSIXlt"
Dear R gurus I've a question concerning the transformation of a new S4 class (that I defined) and the existing class "POSIXlt". I did the following: ## Definition of the new class: setClass("dtime", representation(data = "POSIXlt"), prototype(data = as.POSIXlt("2004/06/01"))) ## Transformation between the new class "dtime"

setAs between a new S4 class and "POSIXlt"
Dear R core team Please apologize for posting the same question twice on R-help and R-devel. Since I was not sure which list is appropriate I tried R-help (Tue Mar 22), but got no answer. Now I do not know if the formulation of my question was unclear or the question is not so easy to answer or to easy (what I do not hope). My problem: I create a new S4 class, containing one slot, data (of

getMethods() not finding all methods
Running R2.4.0 on Apple Mac OS X 10.4.8, in Emacs ESS mode, and also R.app. In an attempt to learn a bit more about a particular method (geneNames in package affy) I invoked getMethods("geneNames") which produced geneNames methods, but not the one in affy (output below). I had to know the signature (AffyBatch) in order to find the method > getMethod("geneNames",
