interp equivalent
Hi I'm looking to a function in R equivalent to S-PLUS' "interp". Is there any implementation in R? If not, is there any similar interpolation function such that at the data points the interpolated values concides with the data? Thanks in advance P.J. documentation and \sloppy (PR#976)
Hi When preparing documentation using Rd2dvi sometimes we get "overflow" on some lines. The consequence is that in the documentation there are some lines where words are not hyphenated or moved. The final document has some lines with more columns than the rest of the text. This happens when we use \code{} (which probably calls the \tt in latex). I've been checking the documentation

Installing Packages (fwd)
This depends whether you want to compile the packages yourself (here you need the extra tools) or just install the pre-compiled versions (here you don't need them). I would guess that most of the Windows users just do the latter and the installation is then straighforward by using the option "Packages" on the top menu. You can donload/install from CRAN or from a local zip file.

plotting circles
I'd like to make some polar plots with R, but I can't seem to find anything designed to help with that. Is there anyway to get a real polar mode, where instead of x and y you have r and theta? How about a way to draw a circle? -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/~hornik/R/R-FAQ.html Send

try.Silent
In an email to the help list John Chambers wrote about the function helpSilent which is in the methods package, pointing out that there is no restrictive reason to be in this package. I did not know about this function and just incorporate it in several functions of the geoR package where a much less elegant solution was being used. I guess other packages could use it as well. Therefore,

border of a polygon in contour.kriging - geoR
Dear all, When a conventional kriging and then a contour plot is limited with a polygon (as possible with krige.conv and contour.kriging), the polygon border is displayed in black by default. > kc<-krige.conv(CZdata,loc=pred.grid,borders=czpoly,krige=krige.control(obj.m=ls)) > plot(CZcoord,xlab="x",ylab="y",type="n",asp=1) >

simple mixture
Dear All, I am trying to do some simple mixture analyses. For instance, I have a sample of n observations and I suspect they come from two different exponential distributions with parameters rate1 and rate2, respectively. So, I want to estimate rate1, rate2, and the proportions of both kinds of individuals in the sample. I had a look at the packages mda and mclust, but they do not seem to do this

dist
Hi list! I'm computing multivar. distances from a set of centroids to a (large) set of individuals. I'm now just using rbind to create a matrix (x) with the centroid and the individuals, then run as.matrix(dist(x)) and finally select the appropriate columns, as I'm not interested on the distances among individuals. Therefore, this procedure implies a waste of computing time. Is there

One package calling C-code from another package.
Dear R people We have two packages, where the first package (geoR) is required by the second (geoRglmm). Both packages have functions calling C-code via .C(). We would like to call C-functions included in the first package from within the C-code in the second package. Is this possible? An appropriate header file was included in the src directory of the second package but this alone did not

Change class factor to numeric
I am attempting to develop a multiple regression model using selected model variables that should all be treated as numeric (mostly real) values. However, R considers one specific variable "mass" automatically to be of class "factor", probably because "mass" consists of integer values that are repeated. I now want to force R to treat "mass" as a numeric

non-linear trends in kriging model
Hi I am struggling to fit a non-linear trend using the likfit function in geoR. Specifically I want a sigmoidal function, something like SSfpl in the nls package to fit the trend. But it seems trend.spatial in geoR only works with lm or glm type models. Any ideas how I can specify the model to calculate the kriging parameters using REML, including the parameters of a sigmoidal trend function

Applying a function to a vector
I have defined a function to compute the value of a beta distribution of the second kind (the existing beta distribution of th stats package is the beta distribution of the first kind). It works perfectly for a single value, but I want to apply it to a vector of 22 000 values. I can use a loop for the calculation of each value but it runs very very slowly. So, what can I change ? about Cox-Box transformation
Dear R-users, I am using R version 1.8.0-1 under Suse 8.2. I need to use the boxcox command because I want to apply a Cox-Box transformation to a vector of rainfall values. Within the libraries, the MASS library is present, but I don't know whether this means that is automatically installed or not. The command doesn't work. What do I have to do in order to make it working? Is just a
