computing a p-value for a one-way ANOVA given only means and std dev of 5 factor levels
I've been presented with a problem where I don't have the raw data, but I do
have summary data.
Specifically, I have a response that takes values from 0 thru 10, and a
factor that has 5 levels (unordered) ...
I have a mean and std dev for each of the 5 levels and need to obtain a
p-value indicating whether there is evidence of a difference between these
means.

Sjava question on MacOS 10.3
I am running R-1.81, apple's JVM installed with OS 10.3.2, and installed
Sjava-0.65.X (a patched version of Sjava for MacOS from Simon Urbanek, which
I know is inherently dangerous, but...). This version installed fine and
some aspects seem to work as expected. However, this is one of the examples
and causes R to hang. Any insights? What other information should I
provide to make it easier

Is anyone using the Orca screenreader?
Orca is a daemon written in Python and C which presents the contents of
a Gnome screen to a blind person in speech or braille. It is on the
CentOS 5.6 disks. Has anyone on this list used it? If so, what was your
experience? I am developing the BrailleBlaster tactile literacy
application. Since I am both blind and deaf, I will be using a braille
display. I also need to make sure that the

First sample release of the R-Orca package.
For all those few of you who care about weird statistical visualization software, I've finally made available a "test" release for R-Orca. There are
examples of a 2-d variable selection plot (i.e. 2-d straight projection, with selection of the 2 variables to view), a GrandTour plot, and a Simplicial data plot. The points of interest are the ability to brush and select from the

SJava help
Hi,
I installed SJava 0.66-1 on my linux RH 7.2 machine. I am using R-1.7.1.
I set LD_LIBRARY_PATH up then called library(SJava) and it was fine. But
when I called .JavaInit(), I got weird error that states it could not
find java/lang/Hashtable. The session is below and shows my java
configuration. I am using j2sdk1.4.2_01 from Sun.
Thank you very much.

GUI and Java: RSJava does not work
Hi,
About GUI and R, I would say that personnaly, I need to build a nice GUI for
people who does not know anything about R, to conduct simulations. I don't know
if the choice of R is the best. Maybe writing all the code in Java would be
better... I don't know.
That's why I have tried to install RSJava from Omegahat on my computer (Windows
2000). With R 1.5.0 or 1.5.1, I get the

have succeeded in doing so as it appears in the list when i type library()
in R.
However, when i type ?library(rJava)? I get an error dialog box saying:
'This application has failed to start because jvm.dll was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem'
When I press 'OK' on the dialog
