rpart on Alpha under OSF
Running on an Alpha machine which reports (uname -a) OSF1 bsdx01.bs.ehu.es V4.0 878 alpha and using the binary distribution put together by Albrecht Gebhardt (in http://cran.at.r-project.org/bin/osf/osf4.0/tar/alpha_ev5/) I obtain core dumps whenever I try to use package rpart. I have R REMOVE'd the rpart package, downloaded the source rpart_1.0-7.tar from CRAN and

digital unix linking problem
Greetings. I'm trying to install R-0.90.1 on our digital 4.0F servers (alphaev6 arch). Using either the digital cc and f77, or gcc 2.95.2 and g77, R compiles, but on trying to execute it I get: 11819:./bin/R.X11: /sbin/loader: Fatal Error: cannot map xxxxxxx I'm used to 'cannot map', but always with a shared library name, not 'xxxxxxx'. Has anyone else run into this

configure doesn't accept f77 on alpha (PR#419)
Full_Name: Albrecht Gebhardt Version: 0.99.0 OS: alpha, osf4.0 Submission from: (NULL) (143.205.180.40) configure stops when checking if cc and f77 "agree on int and double". This is only due to a linking problem (linking fortran object with cc without for_main.o complains about unreloved dependency to main. Solution: add -expect_unresolved main to th linking step, see patch below

multiple definitions in C code
There is a problem in MacOS X with multiple definitions of the same symbol in different files that will be put into the same bundle or dynamic library by the dynamic linker. It occurs, for example, in the rpart package, which includes rpart.h in all its source files, and rpart.h has definitions of a structure rp and functions rp_init and so on. I think the same problem occurs in the grid package

Postscript device ignores title if it is too long. (PR#565)
Hi, This may just be an inconsistency between terminal drivers, rather than a proper bug. If the main title of a plot is too wide to all fit on the plot, the X11 driver prints as much of the title as it can, but the postscript driver totally ignores the title. Here's a simple example: % R > plot(runif(1000), main="a long xxxxxxxxxxxx title") >

"clipping error in x11()" (PR#564)
There seems to be an error in the X11 display code: try: plot(c(-30000,-1,0,1,30000),c(30000,1,0,1,30000),type="l") points(c(-30000,-1,0,1,30000),c(30000,1,0,1,30000)) it gives a big "V" as expexted. Now zoom in using small xlim and ylim: plot(c(-30000,-1,0,1,30000),c(30000,1,0,1,30000),type="l", xlim=c(-5,5),ylim=c(0,5))

problem with va_list type (alpha) (PR#421)
Full_Name: Albrecht Gebhardt Version: 0.99.0 OS: alpha, osf4.0 Submission from: (NULL) (143.205.180.40) Both DEC cc and gcc complain (osf4.0, alpha) about applying an unary operator (!) to a non scalar type (va_list arg) in printutils.c I'm not sure if I understood what was intended by "!arg" (see below), but with this patch I at least was able to compile. (and R runs now, but I

.rpm (splines, ctest) install problem - LinuxPPC
On a PMac 7200 (running LinuxPPC 3Q 99), trying to install "R-ctest-0.9.R16-1.ppc.rpm" and "R-splines-2.0.R3-3.ppc.rpm" rpms currently in the linuxppc binary download directory results in error messages saying that files in these rpms conflict with files from R-base 1.01-1. Of course, "R-rpart" and "R-survival4" then also can't be installed because the

(not) compiling fortran -- dynamic loading problem
Hi, everyone. This may be properly a fortran question rather than an R question. I'm trying to add a few print statements to otherwise working fortran code in one of the libraries so I can see what's going on in the code. I have no problem doing so on an SGI machine, but under LinuxPPC I've run into a problem. The code compiles and creates a shared object (.so), but when I issue

R on Tru64 OSF 5.1
Has anyone achieved a current successful build of R 1.8 or 1.9 or earlier for HPUX Tru 64 OSF 5.1? There is no binary version of R for HPUX Tru 64 OSF 5.1. The R admin manual mentions that the native make fails on "Alpha/OSF (aka Tru 64)" and gnu make must be used instead. There are problems reported with building R versions around 1.4 from 2002 on R-devel, some of which were fixed with
