How to import/install the key for signing pxljr-1.1-1.i386.rpm
How do I import and install the key for signing the above rpm (driver
for HP Colour laserjet 3500 printer) which I've downloaded from the kde
repo? - I want to use yum localinstall, but when I do I get the message
'package not signed'.
Thanks for help,

Linux driver for HP Laserjet 3500 printer - yum won't install
I'm trying to install the linux driver for an HP Colour Laserjet 3500 in
CentOS 5. I've installed the kde.repo (with appropriate priorities set
up), but when I try yum install pxljr-1.1-1.i386.rpm, yum says 'nothing
to do' - is this because the priority protection won't let it install
from the kde repo?
The alternative approach seems to be to use yum localinstall with the

Installing HP Color Laserjet 3500 printer in CentOS 5
OK, I've downloaded and installed the driver (pxljr-1.1-1.i386.rpm), and
the ppd file (HP-Color_LaserJet_3550-pxljr.ppd) in /etc/cups/ppd. Now
I'm trying to set up the printer, connected to the network via a
JetDirect printer server at location 192.168.0.200. Trouble is, I'm
really not sure about all the settings in Printer Configuration -
specifically, what should the Device URI be -

yum repo issue
hi all,
i'm trying to understand an issue i'm having with a yum repo (it's a
mirror of the c74 repo).
there's an rpm in the repo (ibutils-libs in this case); but the client
using this repo says it cannot find this rpm (i did yum info
ibutils-libs --disablerepo=* --enablerepo=c74 to exclude all other repos).
other rpms are ok to use, so nothing structural going wrong (i think)

yum vs rpm
If I have a local rpm file, what is the difference between running
"rpm -i" and "yum localinstall"?
When I do "rpm -i", I can still see the info via "yum info", so is there
a difference?

Problems with PuppetLabs Yum Repo
Trying to update a RHEL5 x86_64 server
Yum sees puppet-server 3.1.0-1.el5, but does not see puppet 3.1.0-1.el5
I tried cleaning out the cache and trying again, but no luck.
I am going to download the RPM and localinstall it so I am not held up.

[Possibly OT] rpm conflicts has me confused
Hi list,
I can install the default ppp-2.4.4-2, but when I try to
install an rpm I built from Sangoma's ppp-2.4.4.5 (using
checkinstall-1.6.1) I get this error:
# rpm -ivh ppp.2.4.4.5-1.eai.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
ppp < 2.4.3-3 conflicts with kernel-2.6.18-162.2.1.el5.i686
Isn't 2.4.4.5 > 2.4.3-3 ???
trying this:
yum localinstall ppp.2.4.4.5-1.eai.i386.rpm

tcptrack for Centos 5.5 32bit rpm
Hi list.
I have rebuilt tcptrack now.
You can get it from here:
http://www.karsites.net/centos/downloads/5.5/tcptrack-1.3.0-1.el5.i386.rpm
It's not signed, so to install it with yum as root user, do:
# yum localinstall --nogpgcheck tcptrack-1.3.0-1.el5.i386.rpm
in the directory you d/l it to.
Kind Regards,
Keith Roberts

bad text under KDE and C7
I recently installed C7 from a C7+gnome CD.
Gnome was awful enough that I promptly installed KDE.
KDE is not doing so well either.
Text in text editors invoked by "opening" a file is flakey at best.
E.g. pieces disappear and duplicate.
Terminals seem ok, including vim invoked from the terminal.
Firefox text seems ok.
The sidebar text in file-browser windows often has "black

Using CentOS 4.4 on very old Dell Inspiron 3500 laptop; would like suggestions regarding using KDE/GNOME in low RAM and low disk situation
Hi;
I'm new to the CentOS list and I only have experience with CentOS 4.3/4.4
on desktops. I just installed CentOS 4.4 on a very old Dell Inspiron 3500
laptop. I choose the desktop option and then deleted the kde and gnome
packages because I have only 192mb RAM and 4gb disk (total). I'd like
suggestions on how to maximize the effective usage of the laptop with CentOS
4.4...as a

gnome-shell killing KDE

spending rather a lot of its time in D mode?

The black tape has gone away for KDE also.
Apparently logging out and in again fixed or obscured the problem.

CentOS 6.4 apparent rpm problem
Well, after three days of beating my head against my desk, I'm waving
the white flag.? I've got a CentOS 6.4 box (yeah, I know) that I blew
away the OpenLDAP client and installed the freeipa-client as we're
transitioning off this terrible OpenLDAP implementation here.?
Everything installed fine, and while I'm still tweaking the ansible
playbook for completely flushing PAM and

Updating firefox after a long time yum-excluded it and having installed it from .rpm
Hello,
I've been stuck for a while with an old version of firefox, installed
from local .rpm (I know.. I should have downgraded using yum, instead)
and added a exclude=firefox to the relevant .repo file. I did that
after a yum-update has brought firefox 52+, and all add-ons were
deprecated because of their new add-on scheme.
Today that all the add-ons I need are available, I've tried

The i915 driver is fairly rock solid - virtually all desktop machines
these days have on-board Intel video, it's the lowest common
denominator. And your chipset is not exactly cutting edge stuff.
Are there any errors in the logs - either kernel logs or X logs?
