Wx::Window#get_text_extent patch
Here''s a patch to fix Wx::Window#get_text_extent - it requires that the patches from teh last message are applied, to enable *INPUT etc typemaps. Roy - though the function works correctly when called from Ruby, it still causes a crash when called internally when clicking on a Wx::Grid cell. Saw your message on SWIG mailing list, hopefully someone there can help out. alex

Wxruby2 gemspec
Hi A gemspec for installation of wxuby-swig via rubygems. It assumes the end-users will compile the pre-swigged .cpp files & that that the main require file will be wx.rb (as per Kevin''s suggestion). runrake.rb is just a helper script that runs rake correctly within the rubygems installation process. # to build the gem gem build wxruby2.gemspec # to build & install the

Making it easier to contribute wxRuby-SWIG code
After seeing contributions from Dmitry and Alex, I''m wondering how we can better organize and encourage user contributions. ORGANIZING Maybe identifying what is still missing in wxRuby-SWIG and publishing a prioritized todo list could useful to contributors. GETTING NOTICED It might be useful to post a link to the unassigned todo list each month to comp.lang.ruby and ask for

Wx::SystemSettings mark II
hi patches and files for Wx::SystemSettings, with get_font included in swig file and a sample that doesn''t segfault wxruby. CVS patches: RubyConstants.i, type_map.i CVS new: system_settings.rb (sample) SystemSettings.i (SWIG file) The sample should allow you to view the available information about system colours, fonts and metrics (eg cursor size, display size) in a Grid.

Scintilla
Hi I''ve been trying out the StyledTextCtrl/Scintilla component bundled with wxWidgets 2.8. Surprisingly, it''s very easy to get this working at a basic level with wxRuby (95% of credit to Roy, who originally created a SWIG file for this). So I''m wondering: should we try and integrate this into wxRuby core? Pros: - a cool component, interesting to developers - not

First drop of new memory management
Hi Just a quick update on memory leaks etc. I''ve just dropped a bunch of patches with a new approach to linking ruby''s GC to Wx''s memory handling. Still some work to do - eg bigdemo.rb falls over quite quickly - but working well for me on other samples. Briefly, it disposes of fixdeleting. For almost all objects that aren''t Windows, they should now be

Fix for non-centered windows
Two patches here: First one removes virtual from a function that shouldn''t have been virtual. Second one applies a typemap to catch GetRectFromChildWindow. For reasons that are completely beyond me the standard ruby OUTPUT typemaps don''t define directorargouts. I will take a stab at patching SWIG''s default typemaps someday so we get this fixed for free on all our

wxruby gems
Hi Following on from some talk last year of creating gems for wxruby, I''ve attached a first try at them (for 0.6.0, not wxruby-swig). I mainly made them because I want to ease installation of Weft QDA by adding wxruby (and sqlite) as gem dependencies, but hopefully they will be generally useful. A couple of queries: 1) Who should be listed as author? 2) It doesn''t include

wxWidgets 2.5
I''ve just gotten wxruby-swig to compile with wxWidgets 2.5 on Mac OS X. Thankfully, it mostly consists of getting rid of already depricated methods from the widget classes. I need to try with Linux and Win32, but it should be a smooth transition. Nick

Compiling WxRuby2 on Ubuntu 6.06
Hi All, I am trying to compile WxRuby on Ubuntu 6.06. I checked out the latest source code from CVS and ran ''rake'' under the wxruby2 directory. I am getting the following error. root@imayam:/work/wxruby/wxruby2# rake (in /work/wxruby/wxruby2) rake aborted! Don''t know how to build task ''src/App.cpp'' (See full trace by running task with --trace) I am

wxruby + GTK2.0
I have a newly-installed Ubuntu linux box that I''m planning to use for wxruby development (thanks for the advice on remote desktops from this group). However, turns out that Ubuntu comes with GTK2.0, annd wxwidgets 2.6 is reportedly better and easier to build than 2.4.2 against this. Before I set off on a potentially fruitless compiling journey, I was wondering if anyone had had

*OUTPUT/*INPUT typemaps
Hi Have been looking again at SWIG output pointer parameters, as: http://www.swig.org/Doc1.3/Ruby.html#Ruby_nn32 The problem is, whenever I tried to include the SWIG/Ruby ''typemaps.i'' file, it threw loads of errors. A bit more investigation pinned the problem down to some secondary files that typemaps.i includes to map ''special'' types like File. So I tried

installing from src on OS X
Hi I''ve built WxWidgets (2.5.4) and wxruby-swig (CVS) from source on OS X (.3). I''ve got something called wx.bundle in lib/ that looks the right sort of size - 2.5MB - but I don''t know what to do with it to install it - no rake install or make install? btw - wx on OS X looks fantastic, esp after seeing a Tk interface inside Aqua this am ... cheers alex

Make task for rake
I have a dual processor machine and got mad that both processors were not working away at compiling wxRuby. At first I tried using Ruby threads but they are ''fake'' software threads that run in one process on one cpu. So until Ruby gets ''real'' threads I added a task to rake that generates a makfile which is run with the command: ''make -j 2''

*INPUT/*OUTPUT params patches
Hi The attached patches enable the use of SWIG''s *INPUT *OUTPUT and *INOUT typemaps as described in the manual. It''s done by including SWIG''s own ''typemaps.i'' file so it''ll allow us to benefit from future upgrades to that. The problem was a collision between a Ruby macro _ (fixing for old compilers) and a WxWidgets macro _ (for text

ListItem patches
Hi Attached, patches to implement ListItem. This class, in wxruby 0.6.0, allows styling of individual items in a ListCtrl, via a particularly clunky API. In disambiguating the overloaded ListCtrl#set_item method it introduces one non backwards-compatible change. I''ve followed the WxPython convention as described in the Wx class ref, renaming set_item(index, col, string, imageid) to

Patch for Swig 1.3.29
Attached is a patch for Swig that at least allows us to link the library. I am experiencing a number of bugs that will need to be tracked down and squashed. I haven''t even had time to look at the newer Swig features yet. wxRuby on osx tiger and ruby 1.8
