mapply error with Math (S4 group generic)
I get an error when using self-defined (not standard) functions with mapply with S4 objects from the raster package that I develop: "Error in as.character(sys.call(sys.parent())[[1]]) : cannot coerce type 'closure' to vector of type 'character'". Does anyone understand why? The problem is illustrated below. Thanks, Robert > # First a general example that works

dir.create does not return a value (PR#13686)
?dir.create (part of the base package) says that: "dir.create and Sys.chmod return a logical vector indicating which operation succeeded for each of the files attempted" However, on my system it returns nothing (whether successful or not): > dir.create(":::@!#!::") > dir.create('b') > sessionInfo() R version 2.9.0 (2009-04-17) i386-pc-mingw32 locale:

R CMD on windows 7
I had difficulties running R CMD check and build on windows 7. The problem seems to be that the script creates folders to which nobody has any access permissions (not even read). So the script can not delete these folders or open files. This worked for me: Go to the properties of the root folder of your R project (e.g. "D:\R"). Change the settings so that this folder and its

issue with image plot in 2.13.1
R gurus, I'm having an issue with the appearance of image plots produced by R-2.13.1. When I plot an image (example code pasted below), thin white lines appear between rows and columns of pixels. The location of the lines seems somewhat random and change as the graphics device is re-sized. This occurs using a range of graphic devices (windows, png, bmp, jpeg, tiff, pdf), on two different

embedFonts() does not embed fonts?
Dear helpers, I'm trying out the embedFonts() to embed fonts into my pdf files. However, when I inspect the new pdf with a program designed to look for embedded fonts, I see that the fonts have in fact not been embedded. Below are my calls. issue with available.packages() and download.file()
Dear R-Users, I think I have encountered a potential bug (or at least unwanted behavior), but I'm not sure so I wanted to post here first. Lately I've been encountering an error when running a package I put together. I have my package set up to check for updates when it loads but this error occurs and stops the package from loading: Error : .onLoad failed in loadNamespace() for

getting names of dimnames of xtabs into xtable latex output
In R, the output of xtabs displays the names of the dimnames. In the example below, these are "change_diet" and "mydiet". Is there a way to have xtable incorporate these names directly into the latex output. Thanks for your help. table2 <- structure(c(26, 0, 40, 0, 10, 0, 188, 0, 281, 0), .Dim = c(5L, 2L), .Dimnames = structure(list(change_diet = c("Don't

strange problem with strptime and date variable
Hello all, I am manipulating a large database with 70,000 records. "strptime" generates a date variable but R treats some of the values as NA. I attach a simple example below. I have spent hours on this problem. Any hint would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Edwin Sun # =======start of sample code ============= > x <- c("2005-04-02 19:03:00", "2005-04-03

R crash
Dear users, By running the script below, R crashes systematically at the last command, namely dev.off(), on Windows 7, but not on Windows XP. I therefore don't provide a reproducible example and do not really extract the relevant parts of the script because it has most likely nothing to do with the script itself. I can do it though if you think it might be relevant. R crashes on Windows

Correct behavior of Hmisc::capitalize()?
Hi, from example(capitalize) of the Hmisc package (v 0.8.3) you get: > capitalize(c("Hello", "bob", "daN")) [1] "Hello" "Bob" "daN" Is that "daN" correct? If so, then this behavior that only *all lowercase strings*, which the code indicates, will be capitalized is not documented. > Hmisc::capitalize function

Histogram messed up
Hey all, I encountered a problem drawing a histogram. You can view the picture here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4836866/Bad_Histogramm.png What happens: the bars are drawn with different starting points, thus no straight zero-line is there. And bars are overlapping. (or sometimes apart from each other.) How it happens: hist(volcano, breaks=10) # and any other data This also happens with

'modifyList' drops (not adds) NULL components
Dear list, Utils::modifyList() drops NULL components in its second argument, instead of adding them to the first argument. Compare: > modifyList(x=list(A=1), val=list(B=2, C=3)) $A [1] 1 $B [1] 2 $C [1] 3 > modifyList(x=list(A=1), val=list(B=NULL, C=3)) $A [1] 1 $C [1] 3 To me this seems inconsistent with the documentation ("Elements in 'val' which are missing from
