RNGkind() state (PR#12567)
I sent this to R-devel early last month, but have received no response, so I guess it really is a bug. This looks like a bug to me, and is a bit hard to describe, but easy to reproduce. ? Basically, if RNGkind is saved as something other than the default, and if the first operation in a session is a set.seed(), the default is reverted to. ?Reproduce by: cafe-rozo> ?R --vanilla R version

reproducing Box-Muller numbers
There seems to be a minor problem with reproducing numbers from rnorm with Box-Muller. The pattern suggests it might have something to do with the value that gets dropped when an odd number of numbers is requested. (Details below.) RNG initialization
It would be nice to be able to initialize the random-number generator with a single long argument; I can see that in principle this could be done by writing an access method, do_RNGinit (or whatever) for RNG_Init. I had trouble with the technical details, possibly because of long/int incompatibilities. Any chance of this happening? -- Ben Bolker

I find the documention for RNGversion in R-devel is a bit misleading, and suggest adding a sentence to make it clear that the meaning of "default" is not set to its meaning in the earlier R version: `RNGversion' can be used to set the random generators as they were in an earlier R{} version (for reproducibility). Brian I've been playing a bit with the Wichmann-Hill RNG. I would prefer to have normally distributed random numbers and I think I have things generally worked out to use Wichmann-Hill and then Box-Muller.
