segments() with zero-length arguments (PR#11192)
Uwe Ligges suggested I post this on R-bugs as a wishlist item with a
proposed patch. R considers zero-length arguments to segments() to be
an error. I would like R to allow this and to return without an
error. It occurs naturally in settings like
valid <- c(FALSE, FALSE, FALSE)
segments(x0[valid], y0[valid], x1[valid], y1[valid])
For what it may be worth, S-Plus does not consider

Coloring leaves, twigs and labels in plot.dendrogram()
Core developers,
I couldn't find any simple way to send a vector of colors to apply to each
terminal in plot.dendrogram() or plot.hclust()---I asked R-help about it a
few weeks ago and didn't get any response---so I hacked that functionality
into the plot.dendrgram code (see below for hacked function plus
examples)....
Is there any chance this functionality could be added to the

Request - adding recycled "lwd" parameter to polygon
Hello dear members of R-help and R-core mailing list,
I am not sure if this request is a "ticket" that should be filled somewhere
outside the mailing list. If so, I apologize for not doing and would like
to know where I should have filled it.
And to the subject matter:
I would like to use a command like this:
plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n")

suggest enhancement to segments and arrows to facilitate horizontal and vertical segments
I suggest a simple enhancement to segments() and arrows() to
facilitate drawing horizontal and vertical segments --
set default values for the second x and y arguments equal to the first set.
This is handy, especially when the expressions for coordinates are long.
Compare:
Segments:
< function (x0, y0, x1 = x0, y1 = y0, col = par("fg"), lty = par("lty"),

R-alpha: line types
Responding to my own post, after some hacking:
To fix the behavior of the following test code (the rect()s inherit the
lty set by the previous abline())--
x _ (1:100)/10
plot(x,sin(x))
abline(h=0,lty=2,col="red")
rect(1,0,2,0.5)
abline(v=2)
rect(3,0,4,0.5)
Here are some diffs (now all I have to do is wade through and get lwd
working properly ...)

Would like to add this to example for plotmath. Can you help?
Greetings:
I would like comments on this example and after fixing it up, I need
help from someone who has access to insert this in R's help page for
plotmath.
I uploaded a drawing
http://pj.freefaculty.org/R/Normal-2009.pdf
that is created by the following code
http://pj.freefaculty.org/R/Normal1_2009_plotmathExample.R
This will be a good addition to the plotmath help page/example.

fill colour in grid
Dear all r-users,
I have this code below to draw two squares, small and big square. I would like to colour the small square with red and the big square with blue for example. I tried using polygon but fail. Thank you so much for your help.

Please help me simplify my manipulation and printing of function calls
Background:
I use R for a fair-sized graphics program, intended for na?ve users. This works,
but a less-na?ve user wants it to generate code producing the graphs that he can
then modify (but which will not contain my numerous manipulations and attempts to
discern what the user wants).
Quite possibly this is a standard R activity, but I've been unable to find it;
likely I have a mental

Median abline how-to ?
Hi,
I'm newbie with R and don't really know how to add a median line to each
of the groups that is not all the plot long.
Here is a small working code that i have adapted for my purpose. If
somebody could tell me how to draw median lines on each group and not
all plot long.

Drawing dendrogram
Dear all,
I would like to draw a dendrogram and mark some parts/branches (by using "segments") including their labels. If I draw it without specifying the length of x axix, I am able to do that (as in My dendrogram 1 of the following codes). However, if I want to specify the x axix, I am not able to draw marking line (by using "segments") including labels (as in My dendrogram

Grid newbie: aligning & scaling viewports
Oh Knowledgeable Ones:
I'm working on a project using grid graphics (for the first time). A toy
example is given below, run it simply with >foobar() I am wondering why the
pink dot and concentric circles are not centered on the 3-color axis system.
Further, I feel like the concentric circles don't have the intended radius -
if my math is right, the outmost circle should touch the

A "bug" in plot.dendrogram - can't plot lty with character color
The problem:
===========
Once a dendrogram has a branch with both a line type AND a color (which is
a character color), the plot.dendrogram function will not plot and return
an error.
I say this is a bug because (I believe), we would like a dendrogram to be
able to use character colors, while also allowing control over line types.
This e-mail includes an example, and what I think a solution

Changing parameter in local fdr R code
I am using Efron's local fdr procedure. But, I want to change the null from
N(0,1) to N(0, 0.002). I can access the function but I have no idea what to
change. In other words, I want nulltype to be N(0,0.002) instead of N(0,1)
in his function. Anyone has any ideas. This is his code for the local fdr:
function (zz, bre = 120, df = 7, pct = 0, pct0 = 1/4, nulltype = 1,
type = 0, plot = 1,

Square ended segments
Good Afternoon R Community,
I am working on plotting behavior codes over short durations of time (a few seconds at a time over 1-2 hrs). I am utilizing as.POSIXct to store the time. I wanted to make a quasi time line using these time. I utilized the segments function to represent these times. However the segments rounds off at the ends and does not have the crisp look I need for my purposes.

draw stripes in a circle in R
hi david
Thank you very much for the hack of draw.circle that you proposed me.
I don't understand some part of the code, why do you pass radius as a
vector in the function (if I understand well the purpose of the for
loop) ? Also what is ymult?
If I set the radius to the value 0.85 as I wanted (so as a scalar), I
don't see any difference in the result when I call this function
