Re: Bug#213857: r-base-core: xfig plot fails with invalid line type (PR#4401)
Graham,
Confirmed. I will pass that along to the R team. As 1.8.0 is in code freeze,
this may not get addressed, unfortunately.

R alpha/beta naming
Read this morning
>>> R : Copyright 1998, Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka
>>> Version 0.61.2 Alpha (March 15, 1998)

So, there still is no "R beta" around....
- If I didn't know R, would I use a statistics software, if it was still
in alpha testing state?
- Is this really what we want to tell people about R?
More to the point:
I think, we could

RedHat 5.0 Linux libc to glibc
This was posted on another list I follow and I thought it might be important if
you are not already aware of the change:

MCMC
Hi
Does anyone know of any R coding/functions for MCMC approaches? I am
currently using BUGS but I wonder if the bazaar has produced anything? I
think I am pushing BUGS to it's limit and possibly past it at the moment.

R-beta: installing the R- rpm in RedHat 5.0 --trouble !!
Hello !
When I am trying to install the file " http://www.ci.tuwien.ac.at/R/bin/i386-linux/RedHat-5.0/r-base-0.61.1-2.i386.rpm" on my RedHat 5.0 system I get the following message: libncurses.so.3.4 is needed by r-base-0.61.1-2
Where is it possible to get this (preferably as an rpm)

R-beta: cite R -- how?
I want to cite R for an article. What is the right thing to do?
Shall I include "Notes on R" or is there a better way?

R in Nature
Hi all,
We've just had a paper accepted for publication in Nature. We used R for
95% of our analyses (one of my co-authors sneaked in some GenStat when I
wasn't looking.). The preprint is available from the Nature web site, in
the open peer-review trial section. I searched Nature for previous
references to "R Development Core Team", and I received no hits. So I

Bib. reference on R
I know I've seen the answer to this question
but could not find it now:
What's the appropriate(s) general reference(s)
for the "R language and environment for statistical computing and
graphics" that should be included
in a scientific article?
Thanks

new user
Hi,
I'm a beginner of R.
I find it absoluty fantastic, flexible and very extensible.
For the moment only a curiosity.. Why the name R? (are they perhaps the
initials of Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka?, or is the name correlated with
S language?)
Sorry for my poor question but I am very curious
Thank in advance

Gentleman and Ihaka's integrity in question
It does look like Gentleman and Ihaka not only lied to the New York
Times, but also to the New Zealand Herald and who knows who else. This
is disgusting. The R programming language is the S programming
language, and Gentleman and Ihaka are not the ones who designed it.

mixed model for Splus and R
Hi there,
I try to compare the mixed model package "lme" by Splus and R. I used the
dataset "Ovary" and the following code assuming AR(1) model for the error term:
lme(follicles ~ sin(2*pi*Time) + cos(2*pi*Time), data=Ovary, random =
pdDiag(~sin(2*pi*Time) ) , correlation=corAR1() )
But I got different results! And then I used a simpler model:
lme(follicles ~

Release of Design library; update of Hmisc library
The Design library has been fully ported to R except for Cox proportional hazards regression modeling (using Therneau's survival package) which will be available in about two weeks. It will take much longer to make all the example code executable, is it currently contains many examples for which data are not provided. R-beta: R rules!
I am a long-time Mac user. R is way behind on that platform, which is one
reason why I decided to try out Linux on intel. I have the system set up
and have installed R (using Slackware, which is only distribution my tech
services wants me to use). It went very smoothly, thanks everyone behind
R!
I installed R in the directory
/usr/local/bin/R-0.50-a4/
Not sure if this is a sensible set-up.
