Method of L-BFGS-B of optim evaluate function outside of box constraints
Hi, R guys:
I'm using L-BFGS-B method of optim for minimization problem. My function
called besselI function which need non-negative parameter and the besselI
will overflow if the parameter is too large. So I set the constraint box
which is reasonable for my problem. But the point outside the box was
test, and I got error. My program and the error follows. This program
depends on CircStats

REPLY: make check xapian-bindings-1.2.21 & Search-Xapian-1.2.21.0
Dear Olly Betts,
I think the tests for the perl module Search-Xapian-1.2.21.0 might be fewer in number than the perl tests included with xapian-bindings-1.2.21. If some of the tests have similar but modified content I do not know. I am not so skilled as to interpret the compared test results.
If you want to suggest a paired earlier version of Xapian to a specific xapian.bindings version,
I might

6.3 missing updates and packages
Hi,
The fact that apparently the last tigervnc update from upstream was
missed triggered me to check for missing updates and packages in 6.3.
Here are my results. Sorry for any false positives that might have crept
in, but note that some of the 6_x updates actually are updates and not a
parsing error. And perhaps an occasional false positive due to having to
compare upstream SRPMS vs downstream

Thanks,

I use this kickstart file to install CentOS 5.2 (both i386 and x86_64),
but i can't config NICs and hostname during installation, what's wrong
with it?
Thanks very much.

Guide to stripping Centos 3
I responded to a post in the Dell poweredge mailing list
earlier today. My answer was off the top of my head, with a
bit of experimentation. The content may be useful in the
Cenyos context as well to admin's looking to strip the size of
an install to the bare bones.
Comment welcomed. Can anyone see any packages which I have
missed?

32-bit Centos 5.1 kickstart hangs on xen domU HVM installation
I am trying to a install Centos 5.1 32-bit Xen HVM DomU onto a Centos 5.1
64bit DomU with the default xen installed and the kickstart hangs at random
points during the install process. Sometimes retrieving the image, sometimes
formatting the filesystem, sometimes installing the packages, etc.
I tried upgrading to xen 3.2 and encounter the same problem before
rebuilding back to stock Centos 5.1

Trimming the fat out of a Centos 4.4 Installation
Hi, just to avoid re-inventing the wheel, is there any document that
can help me reduce even further a "minimum" installation of Centos 4.4
(BTW can you say 600mb is minimum)?
I am in the process of creating a small Centos-4.4-based Asterisk box
and I need to boot it from a CF card. Deleting useless packages will
help me do what i want.
Example: even a minimum install of Centos 4.4 (or

SAMBA 3.0 joining Domain fails with SuSE rpm's
Hello,
I'm not sure if it's a bug - or I'm just too stupid..!?
Downloaded the Samba beta-code from ftp.suse.com/gd - rpm's for SuSE 8.2 (03/06/22). Installed all packages with no problems - samba works well, but integration in a W2K Domain fails. Kinit is successful but joining a domain brings up the following errors.

rpmbuild question.
I am attempting to build from a src.rpm (knowing very little about
rpm at all) and the spec file notes that the architecture should be
set on the command line:
> # platform defines - set one below or define the build_xxx on the
command line
Now. My question is this, how does one do this using rpmbuild?
The syntax rpmbuild --target centos4 package.src.rpm seemingly has
no effect.
