attribute blocks for definition lists
Hello, As I am using markdown to write documentation, I am often tempted to make links to terms in definition lists. Since this is not possible for now (at least in php markdown extra), I was wondering if this could be a common addition in major implementation supporting definition lists. the syntax would be term {#id} : definition This syntax tries to follows current convention and

Best way to automatically number sections
Hi list Would anyone suggest the most simple approach to automatically number sections and sub-sections ? I usually use more than one tool to edit my Markdown files, including Byword, Textmate, etc. Thanks in advance Christian Trotobas

fried fish, available, for free
i've released the first beta of my e-book converter-tool. you are invited to throw stones at it (and at me) if you like: > http://jaguarps.com "beta" is a compromise. i developed it on a mac, so that particular version is solid. but "alpha" would be a better label for the status of the windows and linux versions, so if you have one of _those_ machines, and you

S5 slide show system
S5 - http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/s5/ - is an html-based slide-show system. It produces professional-looking slideshows from text with a little xml markup. Has anyone tried using Markdown to generate S5 slide-shows? I think this would be a pretty neat system. I'm thinking a level-1 header could be the slideshow title, and level-2 headers could define individual slides. Any thoughts? - Dan

adding [markdown] to the email subject lines for markdown-discuss
Hi All, I was wondering what people thought to the idea of getting "[markdown]" added to the subject lines of all the mails to the markdown mailing list? It would certainly help me out with my email organisation. Many thanks CHEERS> SAM

Proposed table specification (long!)
Gentlefolk, I have been thinking on Markdown's lack of "proper" table support for a long while now. Here's where I have arrived... ## I Don't Like HTML Tables It is often argued that embedded HTML is the way to markdown rich tables. Unfortunately, this contradicts the higher markdown ideal that a raw markdown document (including tables!) should be good 1. Firstly for

While I empathize with your predicament, I generally prefer not to have expletives in my inbox. Also, what has this to do with markdown? Mac markdown editor that saves as .txt
Hi all, I'm a newer user of markdown & MultiMarkdown, and I'm looking for the perfect setup of software for my Mac and my Android phone. I'd like to have my drafts editable from both. What I want is an attractive Mac app for writing (primarily blog posts and emails) that saves its files as .txt . Most of them save as .md or .markdown instead, and since there doesn't seem to

Treetop or like grammar for Markdown (in Ruby)
Has anyone seen any attempts to give Markdown a PEG (parsing expressions grammar) recognizable by some ruby PEG parser generator grammar like Treetop? http://treetop.rubyforge.org/

Spaced text
Hi eveybody! I've got a suggestion to think about. Although i think that the drawbacks are bigher than the advantages im goong to tell you abou my idea: My idea is another syntax for e m p h a s i z e d words. It uses two spaces before and after the emphasized part and alternating space and letter in between, just like in the sentence before. Pros: ? no symbol needed ? granny compatible

ReMarkdown.css makes HTML look like Markdown text
Hello everyone on the list, I?m borrowing a bit of your time in order to present a little CSS experiment I?ve been working on: a stylesheet which gives a Markdown-like aspect to HTML elements, especially those elements that the Markdown syntax generates in the first place. This means > signs for blockquotes, # signs or underlines for titles, etc. I wrote a mini-website for it:

Is there anyone would like to hold a standard organization of Markdown syntax?
My stackoverflow question here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9222990/is-there-an-official-organization-for-discussing-or-releasing-standard-markdown. And github issue here: https://github.com/michelf/php-markdown/issues/27. So, if there were somebody hold that, the markdown world would be much better than ever! If held, the ORG need a concil to discuss standard, and a website to publish

Hello
New to mailing lists and Markup as well so please bear with me. I have been looking for two things. A project management system that syncs with Notational Velocity as well as something that lets me write and format script in plain text, then have that converted to the proper formatting for a script. I was wondering would Markdown have the ability to do this or have the changes necessary for this?

footnote:id, colons and jquery
I just received a [bug report] for Python-Markdown complaining that colons are used in the ids of footnotes. For reference, we [output] the same format at PHP Markdown Extra. The general complaint is that the colon in the id attribute (`id="fnref:1"`) causes jquery to choke when referencing that id from javascript because jquery uses colons to indicate pseudo elements (as does CSS). markdown conversion routines
i am considering writing converters between my "zen markup language' and "markdown", but i don't know which version of markdown to target. i'd think it'd be the "pandoc" version, and i understand that to be closest to "multimarkdown", but gruber has said he "disagrees" with "almost every part" of multimarkdown's syntax

No way to indent text?
How could one indent (not quote) a block of text? This is commonly done in Wikipedia with one or more colons at the beginning of the line, and is very handy for threaded discussions. An example is at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/MojoMojo&diff=next&oldid=275101911 -- Dan Dascalescu http://wiki.dandascalescu.com

thoughts on a table specification (short! 10 simple rules!)
my take on a table specification. it's short. this is for my own system, so if some of it doesn't seem to apply to you, that's why... *** first, the overview: keep it simple, stupid. if your table is too big or too complex to grok on an iphone, then it's too big or too complex. so break it up, into a series of smaller tables. and when you do so, do it in a way such that
