I'm sorry to hijack a thread to do this, but I actually had to reply to
someone in order to show you the symptom.
Before describing the symptom, let me give you the situation... I'm
running Claws-Mail 3.8.1 on Xubuntu

Look up "roundcube", really straight forward configuration, once installed
type in the IP of your server publishing it on a web browser and it will

If you work with vi and like it, chances are you will also like mutt.
Personally I *love* mutt! No extra fat. Always on the spot. It is "liberal in
what it receives and conservative in how it sends". Since it is command line
program, I can run it almost everywhere.
It supports local mailboxes,

Modems compatible with NTL caller id
I'm looking at using a modem to provide caller ID info on my NTL line
following the steps in the article posted by Darren Poulson:
http://www.22balmoralroad.net/modules.php?name=Sections&op=viewarticle&artid=1
I was wondering if anybody had experience of using any modems (can be
pci/isa/external) with an ntl line (in an ex. Cable & Wireless area if
it makes a difference) and

FWIW, I use claws, which is about the only one not mentioned.?
I don't like Thunderbird. For one thing, it is in caretaker status. Mozilla believes Web based mail is the "future." I rather not run roundcube, given I got hacked via an unpatched roundcube ?back when I was using a hosting company. ? Webmail just increases your attack surface.?

About using Dovecot indexes with Thunderbird/kmail
I have Dovecot running well on my Mandriva mail hub, handing out IMAP to
the household LAN. This is 1.2.15. Eventually I'll upgrade the OS and
get 2.x, but this is working fine.
So this question is really about the mail readers I use and how they
make use of Dovecot.
I have Thunderbird on my laptop and KMail2 on my desktop.
Dovecot indexes. GOOD!
The trouble is that the mail readers

UK ISDN PRI Problems
Advance apologies for the length of this mail;
I have an ISDN PRI supplied by NTL (ex Diamond Cable, Nottingham) which
is currently working happily with an SDX Index phone system. I have to
replace this phone system shortly and I've been trying to get a * system
working for some weeks now. I have configured the dial plan (which
works) and all my SIP extensions (which all work) along with

backing up email / saving maildir on external hard drives
Hi,
talking of rsync and compression is may be also a bit misleading.
On the destination there will be no compressed files if you transfer
with rsync! The transfere on the network by rsync might be compressed!

Anyone know about callerid format used by NTL in Cambridge?
Hi,
Does anyone know anything about the callerid format that NTL uses here
in Cambridge, UK. This is the former Cambridge Cable, who is
sometimes different from the rest of NTL.
They did say that only some equipment works with their switch. I
hoped that they might use US-style CID, which would work with the
X100P, but it doesn't seem to come through.
I do notice that my DECT phone bought

backing up email / saving maildir on external hard drives
Dear Steve,
Very valuable info. Appreciate it and will be careful when using terms.
Actually I think I should just use rsync without compressing. The reason
why I started compressing was because the GUI gave some errors when I was
trying to copy then files.
I'll just rsync the data from my laptop HDD to my external drive(without
compressing)
Thanks
