Basic Network Connections
Hi,
If I have these fragments in a domain definition, the guest will start with "eth0"
assigned by dhcp to an address on my lan. Things seem to work according to the documentation
I can find.
<network>
<name>direct-macvtap</name>
<forward mode='bridge'>
<interface dev='eth0' />
</forward>

Zero byte files
Hi all,
I have a Centos 6 box running samba-3.6.9 and I have a problem with
files turning to 0 bytes after being edited and saved. One of the users
reported that he changed the name of two files and both ended up sized 0
bytes and opening them revealed them to be empty. Has anyone had a
similar problem? I've been looking for 3 days and there's obvious
pattern to the events

pxe boot of new xen VMs
When I try to pxe boot a new VM through lvm and libxl I find about 1
in 10 times the pxe requests will be acknlwledged but if I go into the
interacive ipxe screens it will boot every time.
Is it possible that the network configuration is not built when the VM
starts trying to get its pxe address?

Logging logins with preexec and Samba/LDAP
Hi all,
I had the following line in my smb.conf with which to log access to the
home share when users logged in:
preexec = /bin/echo \"%u logged in to %m at %T\" >>
/var/log/samba/logons.log
Since updating to LDAP however, it's stopped working and I suspect that smbldap cant handle the % substitutions for user, machine and time. Has anyone else run into this problem? If

mounting images created using dd that contain two partitions
Hi all,
I am trying to mount images that I previously created with dd and the
images have two partitions (swap and LVM). I use these images to house
data for my Xen Guests.
For some reason (possibly Kernel conflicts for paravirtualized
domains) I am unable to boot my Guest images. Failing which I would
like to mount the disk images and atleast get my data out of them.
dd -o loop server.img

Samba 4 internal DNS and reverse zones
Hi All,
I currently have another thread open on squid authentication with Samba
4 and am going to try authenticating against kerberos instead of NTLM.
According to the docs for the web filter I'm using, it's essential for
Kerberos to be able to resolve reverse DNS so I've spent the last
weekend trying to get this working. Various different documents and
howtos exist but none of

Samba 4 with LDAP proxy in DMZ
Hi All,
I'm setting up a Samba AD domain which works perfectly with the WIn 7
server tools and so far everything is going fine. What has me stumped
is setting up an LDAP proxy in our DMZ against which I can authenticate
our email and web services.
I've got port 389 open on my main Samba 4 DC and if I use the domain
administrator account to bind the proxy, everything works. In order

Samba 4 and squid ntlm auth
Hi List,
Looking for assistance with a squid authentication problem against Samba 4.
The squid proxy we're using worked fine on our old Samba 3 domain with
500+ users but keeps freezing on our new Samba 4 domain. I've joined
the proxy using net ads join and the samba 4 network is a clean build as
we wanted to leave any baggage from the old one behind.
What we now have is a situation

Domain0 with Kernel 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5xen fails to boot Guests with Kernel 2.6.18-164.el5xen
Hi all,
I am in a bit of a fix here, I have several Guests paravirtualized
running on a Dom0 that is currently running the 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5xen
Kernel. All my guests (administered by different people) have
subsequently been updated to later versions of the kernel (namely
2.6.18-164.el5xen or 2.6.18-128.4.1.el5xen).
Ones that are still running are using the Kernel 2.6.18-128.4.1.el5xen

sorta-newbie: installing 2.2.6 rpm with --nodeps on RedHat 7.2 ?
I have samba (server-only) running on a server with a stock RedHat 7.2 'server' install and am trying to upgrade Samba to 2.2.6-1.i386. I get the following dependency failures when trying to "rpm -ivh samba-2.2.6-1.i386.rpm":
libncurses.so.4 is needed by samba-2.2.6-1
libreadline.so.3 is needed by samba-2.2.6-1
ncurses4-5.0-4.i386.rpm and ncurses-5.2-12.i386.rpm is already

virtual networking - virbr0-nic interface
I need some help in understanding libvirt's virtual networking. I have configured bridged networking (shared physical device) on libvirt+KVM system which is working fine. Also, I am using default NAT network on with virbr0 bridge device and virbr0-nic. I would like to get better understanding on virbr0-nic works in this virtual network configuration. I understand that traffic from virbr0

[Bounty] 1 pizza for 1 simple plugin
So here''s the deal. I don''t know the innards of rails well enough to
do this quickly but you might. First person to write this and release
it under MIT license or public domain, and tells me, gets a free
pizza from your favorite local delivery place. You pick the toppings,
I''ll call ''em and order it up for you. Yeah a pizza isn''t much but I''m
