Basic Network Connections
Hi, If I have these fragments in a domain definition, the guest will start with "eth0" assigned by dhcp to an address on my lan. Things seem to work according to the documentation I can find. <network> <name>direct-macvtap</name> <forward mode='bridge'> <interface dev='eth0' /> </forward> </network>

pxe boot of new xen VMs
When I try to pxe boot a new VM through lvm and libxl I find about 1 in 10 times the pxe requests will be acknlwledged but if I go into the interacive ipxe screens it will boot every time. Is it possible that the network configuration is not built when the VM starts trying to get its pxe address? -- Alvin Starr || voice: (905)513-7688 Netvel Inc. ||

Zero byte files
Hi all, I have a Centos 6 box running samba-3.6.9 and I have a problem with files turning to 0 bytes after being edited and saved. One of the users reported that he changed the name of two files and both ended up sized 0 bytes and opening them revealed them to be empty. Has anyone had a similar problem? I've been looking for 3 days and there's obvious pattern to the events

Logging logins with preexec and Samba/LDAP
Hi all, I had the following line in my smb.conf with which to log access to the home share when users logged in: preexec = /bin/echo \"%u logged in to %m at %T\" >> /var/log/samba/logons.log Since updating to LDAP however, it's stopped working and I suspect that smbldap cant handle the % substitutions for user, machine and time. Has anyone else run into this problem? If

mounting images created using dd that contain two partitions
Hi all, I am trying to mount images that I previously created with dd and the images have two partitions (swap and LVM). I use these images to house data for my Xen Guests. For some reason (possibly Kernel conflicts for paravirtualized domains) I am unable to boot my Guest images. Failing which I would like to mount the disk images and atleast get my data out of them. dd -o loop server.img

sorta-newbie: installing 2.2.6 rpm with --nodeps on RedHat 7.2 ?
I have samba (server-only) running on a server with a stock RedHat 7.2 'server' install and am trying to upgrade Samba to 2.2.6-1.i386. I get the following dependency failures when trying to "rpm -ivh samba-2.2.6-1.i386.rpm": libncurses.so.4 is needed by samba-2.2.6-1 libreadline.so.3 is needed by samba-2.2.6-1 ncurses4-5.0-4.i386.rpm and ncurses-5.2-12.i386.rpm is already

Thunderbird Will Not Download Email Until Computer Is Rebooted
Hey Guys, Have any of you seen an issue with Thunderbird in which the computer has to be rebooted for email to be downloaded? I have been looking over the InterWebs and I cannot find anything. I can see new email on the server as well. Where would be a good place to start for troubleshooting this issue? Thanks

virtual networking - virbr0-nic interface
I need some help in understanding libvirt's virtual networking. I have configured bridged networking (shared physical device) on libvirt+KVM system which is working fine. Also, I am using default NAT network on with virbr0 bridge device and virbr0-nic. I would like to get better understanding on virbr0-nic works in this virtual network configuration. I understand that traffic from virbr0

So here''s the deal. I don''t know the innards of rails well enough to do this quickly but you might. http problem with (a particular url) and default (nat) networking
At work I have a script that provisions a vm for use by employees. One step in this process is to fetch hadoop, which we happen to get from cloudera. I noticed the script always failed when I used libvirt's default networking (nat) but worked fine when I used user mode networking. My instinct is that this is related to (potentially uncommon) network traffic from the server in question, and

guest A from virbr0 can talk to guest B in virbr1 but not vice versa
Hello, I came across an interesting problem in my home lab a few weeks ago as I'm prepping for my RHCE exam using Michael Jang study guide. I've been at this for days now, and I still can't wrap my head around how two or more virtual networks in default NAT configuration are even allowed to communicate with each other despite what the libvirt documentation said. Here's the
