It was pointed out that this information is in the --itemize-changes parameter in the man page.
I looked at the man page but missed this part. I guess it was the forest for the trees.

Difficulty with samba after updating from 3.6.6 to 4.9.0.0
Server - HPUX 11.31
Clients - WIN7 WIN10
After upgrading my versions to 4.9.0.0 I've noticed that we're unable to connect to our AD joined SMB HP-UX Server any longer.
Could someone tell me where to begin digging in release notes between 3.6.6-4.9.0.0 to find out what changed in the smb.conf file that would be causing our problems?

Anyone using antivirus software?
Hello list,
I was just wondering if anyone is using anti-virus software on their Samba server. I have protection on my clients, but I want to run software on the server too. I've looked at McAfee's Virus Scan, but as far as I can tell, it only uses "on-demand" scanning, meaning I have to trigger it from the command line, or run a cron job. I would like to have

Canadian call quality issue
hello,
we have been using a couple of US based
VoIP providers for outbound calls completed
within the US, without any issues.
We recently started making calls to Canada
and have received a few complaints about
the call quality.
Questions :
- Could this be because of the number of
intermediate IP hops between us / our
VoIP provider and the Canadian phone
companies ?

Hello,
I am interested in looking at the dataset used by Stock and Watson in
their "Macroeconomic Forecasting Using Diffusion Indexes (J. of Business
and Econ. Statistics, April 2002, pp158-161) or the set used by
D'Agostino and Giannone "Comparing Alternative Predictors [...]"(October

is it possible to change a username?
One of my users just got married and changed her name. Can I change her
username, just by editing the entry in the smbpasswd file? or do I
have to create a new user? I know for her Unix passwd entry, I can
just change her name. I'm using Samba 2.2.x.

Organized examples for newbyes
I'm learning R from scratch on my linux box, being deeply biased at work by those graphical programs, nice to look but often poor in content and almost generally limited, running under M$ Windows.
I wonder if someone out there can suggest to an absolute beginner as I am where to find a collection of examples of R-code (or Splus, as I understand) to play with in order to learn R quicker.

Win98 client passwords w/Samba 2.2.3a
Hello folks,
I am running Samba 2.2.3a, on a RedHat 7.2 server. So far everything seems to be working fine. I can access shares, print from Windows clients, but I cannot change the password from the Win98 client. When I try, Windows tells me that the old password is incorrect. Here's my smb.conf file

About snapshots or versioned backups
This may be a bit poorly thought through but in this case I don''t
really know enough to really think it through.
My back ground is linux... there I used a tool called rsnapshot which
used rsync and some hardlink magic to create versioned backups. But
take very little space.
By versioned I don''t mean as in version control but just copies of
files as they change.

fts-lucene vs SEARCH HEADER

This is in Dovecot 2.1.7 on Linux x86, but it looks as though 2.1.8 has the same issue. I'm using fts-lucene. SEARCH HEADER TO returns no results, but SEARCH TO works:
