Time Clock Stops in FreeBSD 9.0 guest running under ESXi 5.0
I've now seen this on two different VMs on two different ESXi servers
(Xeon based hosts but different hardware otherwise and at different
facilities):
Everything runs fine for weeks then (seemingly) suddenly/randomly the
clock STOPS. In the first case I saw a jump backwards of about 15
minutes (and then a 'freeze' of the clock). The second time just 'time

Increasing the DMESG buffer....
Hi,
As a next question to my building this server.
I'm nogt able to get a full verbose dmesg.
Probably because the kernelbuffer for it is too small.
I know there used to be a kernel option to increase it.
But I can not find it with the setting in NOTES or any other place I
looked....
Is it still there?
Thanx,

time keeps on slipping... slipping...
I recently put together a new machine w/ a SuperMicro H8SCM and an
AMD Opteron 4228 HE... I've having an issue where the clock on the
machine skips around... The wierd part is that it's very sudden when
it happens... ntp sometimes brings it back, but it can't when the clock
gets too far ahread (1000 seconds), ntp dies...
In order to catch it happening, I ran a sleep 60 loop

sio => uart: one port is gone
This is a fairly standard and old machine with 2 COM ports.
Recently (last Friday) I decided to update my RELENG_7 system and also
to transition from sio to uart.
This what I had before the upgrade:

0x10 on acpi0
kernel: sio0: type 16550A

Hi list,
I am trying to install FreeBSD 9.1-Release amd64 on a Supermicro server:

Currently I have only 2 SSD Kingston drives (working in mirror)

bwi: no DS tssi no OFDM tssi
Hello,
I am attempting to get by broadcom wifi card up and running, am sick of
trying to get ndis working, and am attempting to use the bwi driver
(originating in dragonflyBSD). I'm hoping others here have tried to do the
same and have some pointers. I'm using 7.1-RELEASE (system/source are
in-sync) and my card is a BCM94306MP. My dmesg is posted below.
Bwi(4) is installed and it

bsnmpd always died on HDD detach
I am running bsnmpd with basic snmpd.config (only community and location
changed).
When there is a problem with HDD and disk disapeared from ATA channel
(eg.: disc physically removed) the bsnmpd always dumps core:
kernel: pid 1188 (bsnmpd), uid 0: exited on signal 11 (core dumped)
I see this for a long rime on all releases of 7.x and 8.x branches (i386
and amd64). I did not tested 9.x.

kern.maxswzone is gone... what next?
Hi all.
I prefer to build all ports in /tmp, which is actually a tmpfs
filesystem. I have 8G partition. But when I tried to compile Apache
OpenOffice system starts shooting processes when I was near 6G of swap.

System hangs up every day
Hello everybody
Unfortunately my problem still doesn't have any solution.
But I have an interesting observation. The gateway freezes very quickly, if torrent client programs are running on workstations.
I assume the cause of the problem consists in many number of TCP/IP connections that torrent client establishes.
Any ideas?
Maybe I can tune somehow a TCP/IP via kernel, sysctl or pf settings?

mouse problems [A4 Tech OP-3D]
After some poking into psm.c code I've got some results.
First, for the archives, debug.psm.loglevel tunable is much more useful
than a verbose boot for debugging PS/2 mouse issues. A good value is 2.
Second, I fiddled with various probe methods to force them to
"recognize" my mouse (by loosening their checks) and found out that the
mouse works perfectly if it is treated as

devd question
I'm trying to make devd run an stty command whenever a USB serial device
is attached. Unfortunately, $device-name is ucom[0-9] and the device
names are /dev/cuaU[0-9] - how do I get the correct name in the device
action? I haven't found a way to extract the number by itself, so I'm
stuck with specifying a separate rule for each number, like so:
attach 100 {

Strange reboot since 9.1
Hello,
Since FreeBSD 9.1 I have strange problems with the distribution. Some
servers are rebooting without any kernel panic, instanly. First i
thought it's a problem with my KVM system, but one of my FreeBSD under a
Dell R210 have the same problem.
The servers concerned are now:
- Monitoring server
- LDAP test server
- Some other servers, randomly (not in production).
First i thought it's

It seems very much like the discussion from a year back on

Any ideas?

Help with filing a [maybe] ZFS/mmap bug.
Hi All,
I have what I think is a ZFS related bug. Unfortunately my simplest
test case is a bit cumbersome and I haven't definitively proven that
the problem is ZFS related.
I'm hoping for some feedback on how to move forward.
Quick background: I rip my CD's using grip and produce flac files. I
tag the music using Musicbrainz' Picard and transcode it to mp3's
within Picard

rc.firewall: default loopback rules are set up even for custom file
I've just realized that I see in releng/7 something that I did not see
in releng/6 - even if I use a file with custom rules in firewall_type I
still get default loopback rules installed.
I think that this is not correct, I am using custom rules exactly
because I want to control *everything* (e.g. all deny rules come with
log logamount xxx).

mystery: lock up after fs dump
I wouldn't report this if not for one coincidence (which is described
below). I have too little facts, so this is more of a mystery problem
tale than a real problem report.
There are two systems:
1. old, slow, i386, UP, 7-STABLE
2. new, fast, amd64, MP, 6.3-RELEASE
Systems are located at different physical locations.
What is common between them:
1. they both have the same backup strategy
