10th anniversary of tinc 1.0
Hello everyone, Today is exactly 10 years ago that tinc 1.0 was released. I would have hoped to celebrate this by releasing 1.0.22 and 1.1pre8 today, but this will instead happen in one week. Tinc 1.1 is close to becoming stable, and I hope to release 1.1.0 before the end of the year. The main features of tinc 1.1 are the improved security over tinc 1.0, and a much nicer interface that makes it

tinc dies after some days/weekes of normal activity
Hello, I successfully use tinc for one year in a configuration with several subnets (about 5-7 subnets) and one main server. Sometimes tinc dies with the error message: Error while waiting for input: Bad file descriptor If it happens, this happens immediately, when one subnet has disconnected. tinc (on the main server) tries then to disconnect all currently connected subnets and while

Using a tinc vpn as a default route
I have been trying to set up one end of a tinc vpn as a default gateway for the other and am not having much success. Given that I have two machines, A and B. I have a working tinc connection between A and B on an internal network. B has access to machines on A's subnet using statements such as Subnet=10.38.9.0/24 Subnet=172.24.100.33/32 A is connected to the internet, B has to go

Compression not working between 1.1pre11 and 1.1pre14
Guus, i wonder if you have had a moment to have a look at the compression issue? Thanks a lot! Packet compression benchmark
Hello, Darik Horn sent a pull request adding support for LZ4. LZ4 is supposed to be a very fast compression algorithm, especially when it comes to decompression. I did a quick benchmark with zlib, LZO and LZ4. Now, there are many benchmarks you can find online, but most of them deal with compressing large files. Tinc on the other hand has to compress small packets individually. So I did the

Installing the new tinc on a system (Mandrake 7.0) that uses bash2 as it shell turned up a problem with the redhat initialization script. Compression on Windows
I have installed tinc on two windows XP machines and successfully set up a tunnel. Now I am trying to add compression but I cannot find much in documentation other then "compression" statement in host file. I have set that to 9, but I do not see any compression on the connection and i see bunch off errors saying "Error sending packet to <node> (<ip address> port

Compression not working between 1.1pre11 and 1.1pre14
Hello I have currently a larger network deployed using 1.1pre11. I have now tried to use 1.1pre14 on a remote system, but I have problems to make it work with compression enabled. It appears that a 1pre14 client cannot talk to a 1.1pre11 server with compression enabled, even though the tunnel is being established with no errors. I have tried both lzo and zlib with various levels, none works.

RObust Header Compression
Hi, I found this library which can compress the TCP, IP and other headers by keeping a state at both side of the connection : * https://github.com/didier-barvaux/rohc * https://rohc-lib.org/presentation/getting-started/ It seems more VoIP oriented, but I guess it can help to reduce the overhead of the tunnel. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... tinc reload not establishing new connections
I have a use case where I have to add new "ConnectTo=host" in tinc.conf and reload tinc. This is to make sure existing connections do not get disconnected. I use ... /usr/local/sbin/tinc --pidfile /var/run/tinc.vpn.pid -n vpn reload this works for most part, however, I am now seeing instance where I have to do a restart instead of reload. New connection works after a restart. Is there a

switch mode, how to give a public IP behing a NAT
Hi all, I use tinc since 2 years between my MPLS sites in router mode, works like a charm. Today i am trying to make an ethernet bridge beetween 2 sites for video conference needs, the raison is that 1 side is behind nat, and i dont have access on the gate, other side is on public range. Because off H323 that doesn't handle unconfigured NAT, i would like to give a public IP to the video

Problem with tinc.log and logrotate.
Hi everyone again. I run tinc with the following command: /usr/sbin/tincd -d1 --logfile=/var/log/tinc.log That creates the file "/var/log/tinc.log" correctly and reports into it. Well, because I want to have a log file by day, I have created a logrotate file (/etc/logrotate.d/tinc) that contains the following lines: ----------------------------------------- /var/log/tinc.log {

site-site vpn setup..
So, for remote manageability of Tinc, we don't have any SNMP or REST like programmatic ways? If it is going to be CLI only, it is definitely not secure to manage and also not very convenient to manage programmatically.
