Connection Nodes
Hello All,
I have been looking over Tinc & VPE for a project and really like what I
have seen in Tinc.
In the VPE documentation, I came across:
-----------------------------------------------------------
*connect = ondemand|never|always|disabled *
Sets the connect mode (default: always). It can be always (always try to
establish and keep a conenction to the given host), never (never

dynamic adding of nodes
Thanks Guus for answering all of these many emails.
I now had a question as to if it is possible for something like this.
Suppose that you have a Tinc VPN network made up of 4 nodes (A, B, C, D)
and you want to dynamically add new nodes (E, F). How can this be done
without having to re-start all of the nodes A-D?
Based upon what I can see, each node condifuration files need to be

Tinc and multi-netname setting on single machines with 1 ethernet card
greetings All,
I have been reading over the Tinc manual and have become very interested
in the "4.2 Multiple Networks" section of the manual.
In particular, I am wondering if I read this correctly in that by using:
`-n, --net=netname'
Use configuration for net netname.
then I can have multiple daemons running on the same machine.
If I have 3 machines A, B, and C with A being

Address Variabme for Roadwarriors]
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly on this.
In thinking about the topology that I am trying to set up, I will
probably only set up a "private" DNS on the VPN for the 10.x.x.x users.
With this in mind, I have now come up with a new question relating to this.
What I will like to do is to give all of the uses, including
roadwarriors, a static IP address on the 10.x.x.x address

scalability and bandwidth usage?
Hello All,
How are you all doing today? Good i hope.
I am wondering if some one could please comment on the scalability
limitations of Tinc as far as bandwidth usage and connections?
Thinking about the documentation on Tinc suggests that if it is always
trying to maintain a full mesh topology and if there would be many
nodes, e.g. more than about 100 or so active at a give time, then Tinc

Address Variabme for Roadwarriors
Hello All,
I was just looking over how to set up the hosts files for Tinc and was
wondering about how to handle Roadwarriors?
It appears that the variable "Address=" must be set for individuals to
connect to a host, right?
Also, I am wondering about possibly using a private DNS+DHCP server
combination that would allow the 10.x.x.x users to have their VPN ip
resolved but this does

a few tinc questions
Greetings All,
Can someone please try to answer a few questions for me regarding TINC
so that it might clear up some things that I can trying to get a better
picture on.
1. I am trying to understand the ideas that allow a TINC host to join
multiple networks which raise questions. What prevents a user from
joining multiple networks without authorization to join. How is that

are these problems?
Greetings All,
I was looking around the Internet and came across this, but did not know
if it was a problem for Tinc.

Designing Tinc with Threads and Groups
Hello All,
I have been trying to get a feel for the Tinc sources because I would like
to see about developing a version of Tinc that uses threads and also
incorporated the idea of groups so that when a user starts up their daemon
they can join one or more groups.
I know that you can establish multiple "networks" on a single daemon, but
from what I understand, you also have to have

How to connect across the Internet
Hello All,
Well my Samba server is up and running good, but I am now needing to
be able to let some of my users connect to our server who is not
located on our local network.
Actually they are located some distance away and I would like to be
able to allow then to connect.
Has anyone had any success with this and how it might be done?
Best Regards,
Lonnie

tinc subversion copies
Hello,
I just downloaded all of the tinc subversion stuff and was wondering
what was the state of the 2.0 version located in "branches" directory?
What is the difference over 1.03 other than a nice layout for the
directory structure which I like very much?
Thanks,
Lonnie

Avoid some hosts/networks to see each other
Hi all,
I need a suggestion or just to know if it's even possible to achieve the
following.
There is a "central" vpn server which is my main network.
I have a few other gateways (customers) which should connect to this
central server (there's a firewall on this machine too) which have
behind the customer network.
Then I have a few single servers which still connect to my

Is there something missing?
Hello All,
I hope that you are all doing well. I have been trying to get Samba
setup and running on my Redhat 7.2 box so that users on Windows
machines can login and be connected to their directory.
The problem is that no matter what I try, I can see the Samba server
from the Windows machine, but it keeps telling me that the password
was not recognized and is the same linux password for each

using smbadduser non-interactively
Hello All,
Could someone please tell me if there is a was to use smbadduser in a
non-interactive mode and just allow you to enter all of the
particular user information on the command line?
I need to set up a small script that will automate adding users to
the smbpasswd file so that they can login.
Cheers,
Lonnie

Binding to Tun0 device
Hello all,
We have a few aliased Ethernet addresses on our server and if I do not
use the Bind statement in the "Global" section then the NMBD seems to
try to bind to all of the addresses.
We are actually using OpenVPN which make the connections just fine on a
172.16.x.x subnet to "tun0" device.
The problem is that Samba does not seem to find the tun0 device and

OpenOffice 641c and Wine
Hello All,
I am new to using wine on my Linux redhat 7.2 so please forgive the
dumb questions, ok.
I have been able to run a few of my Windows Applications from wine as
a test, but ran into problems when I wanted to try a test and install
OpenOffice 641c.
I am getting messages like:

Booting a multi-ISO CD on a Mac.
Is this even a possibility?
Both my brother and I have PPC G3 Mac's that we would like to install
Linux on. I have downloaded a couple of Debian ISOs and a couple of
Gentoo ISOs. All four would easily fit on a single CD. So, my
question/problem is, is it possible to configure a menu to chose
between them, that will boot up on a Mac PPC?
Thanks,
Lonnie

can't ping to an internal IP through tinc's virtual interfaces
Hi.
As I wrote some days ago (It worked! [Was: my two hosts don't see each
other]) I succeeded at setting up a tinc VPN between two hosts
(isivirtual and pamvirtual)
I tried to ping from pamvirtual, the external machine, to an internal IP
of 'isivirtual' but it doesn't work. Neither 'traceroute'.
What's going on?
At 'isivirtual' routing (ip forwarding) is

Zaptel Needed
Hello All,
Can someone please tell me about Zaptel?
Is it only needed if you are going to have an interface card like TDM400P
installed on the Asterisk server?
Do you really need it if you do not have the interface card?
Thanks,
Lonnie
