Need util to resize parition (Off Topic)
Hi all, Sorry to post OT but I'm a bit stuck and I thought someone may know the answer. Originally I installed Red Hat 5.2 with 2 paritions, boot and root. I upgraded to Red Hat 6 (kept the original filesystem) without a problem some time ago, but now I want to upgrade to 7.2. When trying to install the upgrade it tells me that the boot parition isnt big enough (by about 90k!) so I thought

5.6 is out, great my first upgrade didn't work...
5.6 is out. That is good news. I did a yum update on one of my non-critical server, and the server stoped responding to ping after the reboot, and never answered back. It's now been 10 minutes, so I'll have to take a ride to the colo... Nice work dev team, keep up the good work. Let's hope that C6 will come soon ! I'm eager to upgrade.

xen with dynamic slices
Hi. I want use xen with dynamic slices. For example, I have 20 domU based on FreeBSD, xen hypervisor 3.3.1, Debian Lenny dom0 system. All domUs have 80Gb LVM partitions, but realy they use 20 of this 80Gb and I want to create more domU''s. How can I do it? I know that some virtualisation have possibility to do dynamic slices(4 example Virtul box) -- Best Regards, alex.faq8@gmail.com

Intel integrated graphics VGA passthrough problem - I/O virtualisation disabled
Hello all, I have already use xen for about a year. I use recently released Opensuse 11.3 (use Xen 4.0) for my experiment. I want to run 3D test in HVM(windows xp), so I want to use VGA passthrough technology. But there is something not work properly. I google a lot of time, it says, I/O virtualisation should be enabled, but I can solve it. I run "xm dmesg" command, in the

Finding wich files a writen to
Hi ! I have a server (Centos 5) that is using a pair of SAS drives to store the data. (Mail server) They are on an adaptec raid controler with a battery backup and write back cache active. >From time to time, I have sever peak io to those data disks (> 400 to 500 iops, > 70 to 100 megs/sec). With iostat, I find that it's almost a write i/o problem. How can I find to which files

KVM Virtualisation, Console output no longer working
Hi, I used to use KVM for virtualisation and have now moved back to it, but I have a problem. When i used to install the guest machine with virt-install i used to use the -x "extra args" part to set the console for the install and guest, but it no longer works. Here is the command i use: virt-install -n server01 -r 512 --os-variant=virtio26 -c /isos/c5u5.iso --nographics

virtualisation
Hi, I run a small company and I would like to virtualise our setup. My internet provider offers a cloud server running CentOS. The server is managed by vmware software, they haven't been able to tell me exactly what. I wanted to know is it possible to virtualise such a setup, and Have CentOS running as the virtual OS that every client sees. Is there a solution similar to vmware view + client

Virtualisation, guests cached memory and density
Hello, We all know linux distros will use most of the free memory available for caching stuff, I/O buffers etc (hence sites like linuxatemyram.com). In many virt scenarios we have some sort of memory deduplication mechanisms, such as KSM on KVM (don't know how it's called in Vmware). My situation is one where I need to cram up as many virtual machines as I can on a single hypervisor

App virtualisation, not OS virtualisation
I would like to run multiple copies of an application on a PC with multiple remote dumb clients. It would seem to me that running Xen would be a sub-optimal solution as I would need a copy of the OS running for every copy of the application, but I was wondering whether a subset of Xen or Xen techniques could be used. There are 2 barriers to running multiple applications with remote access: -

Syslinux boot from a partition on sub stick with GPT label
I recently tried to install several distros on a usb stick, with the peculiarity of creating in it a GPT label rather than the usual dos label. Installed Grub2 using the parted bios_grub flag on a partition, I proceeded to copy several distros on the remaining partitions. Grub2 worked fine, chainloading syslinux on each of the partitions. Or rather it worked all fine until I reached the fifth

Virtualisation of Netware?
Hi, I am hoping someone can kick me up the learning curve (!) on Virtualization: We have an old piece of data logging software that was written in Turbo Pascal 6 using a file I/O module tuned to Netware and so it expects its data files to be on a Netware server and will not access them locally or via an MS/Samba share - essentially, it uses direct NCP calls for parts of its data access. The

Trouble enabling VT-D: "I/O virtualisation disabled"
I have a chipset which supports VT-d (Intel X58) and, according to my motherboard manufacturers, VT-d is enabled in the BIOS and listed as "Intel VT." The problem is that xm dmesg shows "I/O virtualisation disabled" and I get this error message when I try to create a domU with a pci device assigned: ''Error: failed to assign device: maybe the platform doesn''t

CentOS as Guest OS on Red Hat Virtualisation 4.x
Hi all, I have a banking customer asking if CentOS is compatible on RHV4.0 as a guest VM. Based on Red Hat?s knowledge base (see link below), CentOS not supported guest OS. However, VMware say on their official document, CentOS is a compatible guest OS (see link below). So, in my customer's mind, CentOS cannot be used as a guest OS in RHV cause it is not compatible, which I find it hard to

Re: using LVM thin pool LVs as a storage for libvirt guest
Do you have some comparasion of IO performance on thin pool vs. qcow2 file on fs? In my case each VM would have its own thin volume. I just want to overcommit disk-space. No Full Virtualisation with Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 Mobile CPU?
Hello, I have some interesting issue with Intel VT CPU and XEN 3.0.2: I''m running XEN 3.0.2 on a MSI Fuzzy 945GM2 Mainboard (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/ic/ic_detail.php?prod_no=4) with a Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile CPU (T5500). When booting the mainboard BIOS says it found a EM64T CPU, which is AFAIK the code for a Intel CPU with Virtualisation Technologie. But whether Linux

Virtualisation
I'm building a new server at home to handle most of my internal requirements (mail, news, dns, dhcp, backups being the biggies). I also want it to host a couple of virtual servers which are allowed incoming connections from the internet (mail gateway, web server, ssh server); these are virtual so if a hacker _can_ break in then they're limited as to what they can see. At present the
