wxSocket..... or wxRubySocket....
Hey Alex,
I was looking into figuring out a way to create a truely Asynchronis
Socket type for Ruby, and thought I''d go down to the bare minimal
implementation of it, to start creating a socket, and then I got to
thinking. Looking at the wxWidgets C/C++ Code, it doesn''t do much
different then what I''m doing, only in Ruby, so I thought maybe, as a way
to avoid

development status, 1.9.2
Hi all
Just a quick update on recent SVN activity:
* added Sound and CollapsiblePane classes
* added the XRC tool to wxSugar
* fixed some XRC bugs in Window
* added syntax sugar for event handlers and list-like controls
* added some missing methods in Sizer
Sean - I''m away for about 10 days from this weekend, and I''m thinking of
doing a 1.9.2 release in the next day or two.

1.9.5 Release
Hey Alex and Sean,
It looks like it is getting to be that time again for a new release. What
are we looking at for the release time frame? I''m working still on the
wxSDL type library for wxSugar, as I think this would be a great thing to
create a Library for, to incorporate SDL into wxRuby. I''m already looking
at creating Wx::SDLPanel, which will be the equivalent of

syntax II
Hi
Given the warm response to the syntax additions in 1.9.1 I''m considering
moving one or two more syntax extensions into core, and would like your
thoughts. Last ones, I promise. Realise we don''t want much more API
change now, but also we''ll probably also have to live with whatever we
settle on for 2.0 for a little while, so...

Wx::TextCtrl and wxMSW
Hey Alex,
Found a solution to the problem that was occuring with wxMSW and the
Wx::TextCtrl, have yet to verify that this will work in linux, but my little
trick to the matter, was simple, thanks to the things that are provided with
both Wx::TextCtrl, and Wx::Window classes.
I''m providing this bit of information for thoes who may have trouble with
dealing with Wx::TextCtrl, _AND_ have

wxSockets
Hello guys,
Alright Alex..... I need a few tips on where to start. I know that I''m
going to need to rewrite the wxSocket header files, in order to incorperate
them into wxRuby. But some advice on stuff such as
wxSocketClient::new/connect, where it takes a wxIPAddress, and so forth. I
know they are pretty friviolous structures for holding information about
Addresses in which to make

Segmentation Fault
Once more, with feeling.
I''m trying to implement using xrc_replace so as to use a RichTextCtrl in
a form created by FormBuilder. The problem is that I can''t even create a
RichTextCtrl. When I try to, I get a segmentation fault.
I''ve attached the files that are causing this. I''m running wxRuby on a
box running an up-to-date PCLinuxOS distro. I''ve

Popup Window
Hey!
I would need a popup window like this (not necessarily associated to a
taskbaricon):
http://www.venraiker.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/03/libnotifyvx.png
I should be possible to show such a window for a certain time,
displaying a certain message.
Is a similar thing possible with wx? Are there oder options?
thx ck

WxRuby Newbie Application Hanging
I have a WxRuby application that takes a few inputs from the user and
uses that information to search through a large file for matches. The
application works very well, with one exception. If I click anywhere
in the frame while the application is searching through the long file,
the application hangs. Has anyone experienced anything similar to
this? Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
Thanks

Background thread - entension code - switch contexts
Hi,
I am using wxRuby 1.9.7 and Ruby 1.8.6. I have built an extension in C++
and used swig to load it into Ruby interpreter, which works great. The
extension is an often long executing algorithm, and I''ve noticed that if
I fork a new Ruby thread in button clicked event, and in this thread run
the algorithm the application freezes for the time of execution. I have
looked through the

New wxSocket Classes
Hey All,
Wonderful news, I finally got around to implementing a Sockets library
for wxRuby. It''s not as spiffy as wxWidget''s implementation, but has
the basics so far, to send and receive data. So far, I''ve converted the
Server over to the new method, the client will be next, and it does
depend on the new addition I submitted to the SVN for 1414, which adds

How to put a background image on a panel
Well I''ve made a lot of progress on my app, but I''m stuck on figuring
out how to add a bitmap. I have a notebook and a page panel. On this
panel I want to put a backdrop image and scale it to the size of the
panel. How do I do this? I looked at some of the samples related to
bitmaps and I could not see how to apply that to my situation.
Thanks,

Wx::Scintilla class not defined
I''m posting this for a friend who is having trouble with this and here is
his message.
"Heya! I''m working on a script editor application, but it''s missing one key
feature: Syntax highlighting. Seeing this, I looked around in the sample
directory and came across scintilla.rb. I attempted a run, however Ruby

Tearing in my buffered animation test script...
OK, I have a basic blit demo working (thanks to Alex Fenton for his
reply, which I finally saw).
However, there''s a great deal of "tearing" on the screen - flickering
grey lines in the black background. It looks like the blit isn''t
always complete when the screen refreshes.
Can anyone look at this and tell me what I might be doing wrong? Any
help would be most

Bug in TextCtrl constructor
Howdy,
I''ve uncovered a bug in the constructor for TextCtrl (originally
uncovered while using WxSugar but it appears to apply to WxRuby itself
as well). Here''s the output from irb:
