win32-etc-0.2.2 testing wanted
I''ve commited code for win32-etc 0.2.2, which adds the configure_user and
configure_group methods. Testing appreciated. On my home system, I can''t
get configure_user to work, but I haven''t any real idea why it fails. The
configure_group method seems to work fine, however.

DONT_RESOLVE_DLL_REFERENCES info
For future reference, it looks like we should avoid
DONT_RESOLVE_DLL_REFERENCES in any extensions.

Change Journals
Hi,
I''ve released win32-changenotify 0.3.0 today. Take a look.
Park and I have discussed a Ruby interface to change journals a little bit:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/fileio/base/creating_modifying_and_deleting_a_change_journal.asp
Park, would you like to do this, or did you want me to? I wasn''t sure from
your RubyForge post.
Also, do

win32-mmap test suite
I just tried running tc_mmap.rb and noticed that something rather curious
seems to happen. The call to Mmap.new in setup seems to cause the test
suite to just exit without ever actually running the tests.
I reduced the test suite to just this bit of code. This works, although the
final test (TypeError) does not pass - no exception in thrown.
This is 1.8.1 on Win2k.
Any ideas?

Screen capture, save to file
Is there anything in the utils to capture a screen ( or maybe just a

test/unit error report for win32-service
Dan,
I am assuming that the version in CVS is the most current one.
Report follows.

pause and
resume your Schedule service. This is harmless unless you are actually

Fw: re. win32-process
Hi all,
Any ideas for the question below? I know how to do this in theory - make the ''inherit'' flag true, and set the ''stdout'' and ''stderr'' startf_flags hash options to something in the startup_info hash, but I wasn''t sure how to do this in practice.
It would be nice if the answer could be something like this:
require

rdoc, ri and gems
Hi all,
I''ve been going over the chapters on RDOC and gems lately. I think we
should probably work on making the code in Win32Utils "rdoc" friendly.
I''ve started doing this with ''win32-ipc'' as an experiment.
This probably means some directory reorganization, because I think gems
looks for extensions in an ''ext'' directory, whereas

Unraveling a FAR*
Hi all,
Just looking over fole_s_connect() in win32ole.c and I noticed this bit:
hr = CLSIDFromProgID(pBuf, &clsid);
...
hr = GetActiveObject(&clsid, 0, &pUnknown);
...
hr = pUnknown->lpVtbl->QueryInterface(
pUnknown,
&IID_IDispatch,
(void **)&pDispatch
);
Using win32-api, that would be something like:

Need some help with latest win32-mmap
Hi all,
I''ve got the latest win32-mmap code checked into CVS. Unfortunately, it
seems that I''m not able to open an existing mapping and retrieve set
data. Below is a simple example that seems like it ought to work but
doesn''t. Any ideas?

Fwd: win32-clipboard and Unicode zero bytes
Hi all,
I''m forwarding this message from Brian Marick. If you
run this test script and then paste the results into a
Unicode aware text editor, you''ll notice that it only
prints one character instead of three.
I tried changing the strlen to _tcslen and strcpy to
_tcscpy, but that didn''t help. I mucked around a bit
with the MultiByteToWideChar function, too, but

Some more win32-security: SID.create
Hi all,
How does this look as a general approach to a SID.create method:
# Creates and initializes
def self.create(authority, *sub_authorities)
if sub_authorities.length > 8
raise ArgumentError, ''maximum of 8 subauthorities allowed''
end
authorities = Array.new(8, 0)
authorities.replace(sub_authorities)
count = authorities.select{ |e| e > 0 }.size

win32-eventlog problem
Hi all,
I''ve logged a new bug for win32-eventlog based on Joey Gibson''s ruby talk
post (116528). Park, I''ve assigned it to you for now, figuring that you''re
probably the one who best knows how to fix it.
All help welcome.

Asynchronous Pipe::Server problems
Hi all,
I''ve been working on the win32-pipe library (again) and I''ve reworked
the interface. Instead of Pipe.new_server or Pipe.new_client, there''s
now a base Pipe class, with Pipe::Server and Pipe::Client subclasses.
You can find the latest code in the CVS repo.
Oh, and you''ll need to update your windows-pr library with the latest
from CVS if you want to

Need some help with pure Ruby win32-changenotify
Hi all,
I know it''s deprecated, but people seem to still be using
win32-changenotify, so I thought I''d see if I could make it pure Ruby.
Also, I thought it would be a good opportunity to test passing a custom
Win32::Event object.
I''m mostly done I think, but I''m having trouble unraveling the
FILE_NOTIFY_INFORMATION struct buffer. Please check out the
