Linux PDA/smartphone sync?
Hi,
I think I'll finally be able to move away from windows... I just
installed linux and I'm wondering what people use as smartphones/PDA.
I currently use a motorola V710 phone, which allows me to sync my
contacts and calendar, which is all I need. I may change it soon, so I'd
like to know what is best to work with linux (I use evolution right now,

I use Evolution at home and it has no issues tracking Message Id.

recommendations/suggestions - geographically spread network based on Centos
Good day all,
I was wondering if I could pick some admin heads here as I have a HUGE
project I have been tasked with.....
I am asking here since I will be basing everything on Centos, and want
it to all play nice together. If anyone feels this is straying off
topic, please just reply off list. I do not want to be the cause of
one of those threads.

AW: Archive-to-DVD
Hi folks,
Here's the situation. I have a group of engineers who love to save
things to disk. Now that the filer is getting full, they are
interested in archiving some of those things to DVD.
The tress containing the things they want to archive are specified
like so:
/path/path/path/A/04??
/path/path/path/B/04??
/path/path/path/A/05??
/path/path/path/B/05??
/path/path/path/A/06??

Slightly OT: How to learn UNIX
Hi,
I was wondering what would be the best way to learn AIX, Solaris, or
HP-UX, for someone who knows Linux very well? Books? Courses?
Self-teaching in a home lab?
Thanks,

Polycom 330 beep on new VM
Hi,
I have a Polycom 330 that emits a beep every 30s or so when there is a
message waiting. Is there a way to disable that? It is pretty annoying.

syncml with server push email
Any recommendations for server push email using syncml and dovecot?
I am familiar with Funambol for syncing pim info, but not used it for email.
Are there any recommended opensource or commercial syncml servers that are
known to integrate nicely with Dovecot 1.x? Googling hasn't really turned up
much in the way of useful info.
To mix it up a little, I was using Funambol for the Pim

Exception for one server on a basic setup
Hi,
I''m not a total newbie with puppet, but I only use it for a few things and
I''m not even using modules yet, mostly because I only deploy configuration
files for now.
I have a configuration for NTP that looks like this:
class ntpd {
package { "ntp":
ensure => installed,
}
file { "/etc/ntp.conf":

FTP with web interface
Hi,
I'm looking for a simple way to be able to administer ftp
accounts on Centos4 (or 5, if needed). The best would be to have a web
interface to do so, but I think I'd rather avoid using webmin...
I've seen some tutorials for getting ftp servers to work with MySQL DBs,
but I'd like to know how people are working. I'd like to have a separate

Backups on external USB HDD
Hi,
I'm trying to implement this:
I have:
- A windows 2000 server
- A centos 4 server
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Monthly.
The tape drive in the windows server died recently and I decided to
switch to USB external drives. However, the USB controller in the
windows server is only 1.1, so it is very slow.
I didn't want to install a 2.0 USB controller in the

Puppet agent on Windows
Hi,
What are the requirements to have puppet agents on windows servers? I have
2003 R2 and 2008 R2 servers, 32 and 64- bit, Puppetmaster 2.6.
What are the types that can be used on Windows? Is it production-ready?
Thanks,
Ugo

Slightly OT: OMA DM Solution
Hi,
anyone knows an open OMA DM tool that would be able to configure Nokia
phones (mainly the sip-stuff of the e-series) for use with asterisk?
Anything open i could find was the device manager from funambol, which was
last updated in 2006 :-(

AW: RE: read only root file system
I am looking at having a read only box, it will not use a swap
partition.
Any recommendations?
Well, i tried two possibilities years ago..
1.) :
There are SCSI-Disks with jumpers for
"Write Protect" , so you have a real
Hardware write-protection.
2.) :
Have a look at (Open)BSD's "Immutable Flag"-Feature. (Well, i hope you all love
OpenBSD?) ;-) But....don't get

Mail server setup for small ISP
Hi,
I will probably have to design an e-mail (and other components)
infrastructure for a small ISP soon (WISP).
I'm doing some research to determine which components would be best to
offer e-mail services to their client and allow the staff to manage
accounts easily.
I usually use virtual machines a lot for isolation and easy backups and
migration (when a hardware node is

Modifying a firewall
I''m trying to be able to use puppet to modify an existing firewall on a
web server.
The idea is that if I use puppet to do this, then if the machine ever
has to be rebuilt, aside from backups, I have a documented
configuration.
I looked at the module that was on the wiki that had a perl program and
what not, but I don''t think I''m clear on what my thinking should be
