Why do non-lvds monitors default to dithering these days?
In the past we assumed that external displays did their own dithering
if needed. GPU based dithering is only needed for laptop displays if i
had to guess.
I was almost thinking my monitor was malfunctioning because of strange
barely visible flickering. Now it *seems* as if dithering was the
problem, although time will have to tell, because it's subtle to see
these effects.

Gentoo CVS Ebuilds?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I have made some ebuilds that build libtheora (as well as libogg & libvorbis)
from cvs for gentoo, and was wondering if anyone was interested in them. If
so, I can put them up online.

NVFaxDetect on Gentoo
Hi, I've merged asterisk-0.9.0 on a gentoo (kernel 2.4) system using
portage ebuilds. I've just got NVFaxDetect .c files from Justin Newman
and I'm about to install them. I want to know which is the best way to
accomplish this. Thanks in advance.

Gentoo ebuild
Hi!
Since I switched from SuSE to Gentoo (before Novell era :-) I wrote a simple
ebuild script for building wxruby on Gentoo.
Few notes:
a) in order to work, wxruby-0.1.0.tgz should contain wxruby-0.1.0 folder since
it is a Gentoo policy and I hope it''s not a problem to change that for 0.2.0
b) I assumed that one needs Ruby >= 1.8.0 and wx >= 2.4.1. Is it OK?

custom monitor formats
I recently updated from OpenSUSE 11.3 to 11.4.
The proprietary Nvidia driver will no longer work, even the latest
NVIDIA...run.
I removed it and set up nouveau, which works fine except it ignores my
customized
/etc/xorg.conf.d files and sets my monitor to 1024x768.
The monitor, an ACER AL1916W should be run at 1440x900 and this is the
preferred
mode (modeline) in the configuration files.

nvidia gt 545 and nouveau
I have 2 monitors plugged into the same nvidia card
(running nouveau) one can be either DVI-I or VGA(vga right now) and the
other is hdmi, right now, I am just trying to get the monitors to not
be clones of each other and to be side by side. When i do xrandr
--output HDMI-1 --pos 0x0 --output VGA-1 --auto --right-of HDMI-1, the
whole screen freezes with the mouse in between the 2 monitors and I

Calling gentoo maintainers
If anyone knows someone with CVS access can they please take another
look at http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22080. It has been in
bugzilla for nearly nine months. Would like to see this in portage -
masked is fine - so at least everyone is working off the same file.
Cheers
Zach.

rebased openSUSE Xen dom0 Patches
I''ve uploaded updated 2.6.31 and 2.6.32 rebased openSUSE Xen dom0
patches and ebuilds to

Notable change is that both include the online resize feature recently
posted to xen-devel.

NPTL & Wine
Hi,
My main systems are Gentoo based. I am investigating switching to
NPTL on one of them that uses a couple of different versions of Wine
built from source. In doing the research I found that the Gentoo
ebuilds for Wine use NPTL. Does this mean that if I switch to NPTL
that I must recompile my source-caode based versions of Wine? If so,
can someone tell my what options I would use, most likely

libshout, ices, and icecast2 CVS Ebuilds
All -
I've just posted a set of ebuilds (package format for the Gentoo distribution) in my web space. I figure I'm not the only one hacking on icecast that uses Gentoo and these haven't made it into the main Portage tree just yet. To use them, place them in the following locations underneath a Portage overlay directory (i.e. /usr/local/portage):

[LLVMdev] Gentoo ebuild of LLVM
Hi guys,
there are few issues concerning LLVM and Gento Linux below.
1. Gentoo encourages to think of smarter packaging.
Oversimplified, but...
there are at least three audiences using LLVM:
- application users
- developers *using* LLVM in their projects
- developers *changing* LLVM sources.
Application users are not interested in LLVM, they are rather
interested to have their favorite

Getting a user from a model (sort of a noob) (resend sorry)
Sorry for the resend but I am not sure if the first one ever made the
list.
As mentioned in my previous posts I''m trying to create a dynamic

most recent version I installed the latest trunk and am able to get
file_column to act as it should. However I have been racking my brain

APC Smart UPS 900i
Hi,
I'm running an old APC Smart UPS 900i. As there isn't any software from APC which supports this
UPS anymore, I've installed NUT (Gentoo Ebuilds), but version 2.0.5 and version 2.2.2 loose
connection to the UPS while version 2.4.1 and SVN version don't show any settings and there are no
instant commands.
The only information I can get are:

Rsync over ssh with root privileges
Hi,
I'm trying to copy some files from a remote server.
(That server uses passphrase to auth users.)
Rsync should be able to copy files with root privileges.
Here is my attempt:

--exclude 'sys' --exclude 'mnt' --rsync-path='sudo rsync' -e "ssh -t

Looks interesting. I'm using Gentoo and the official portage tree doesn't have a liquidsoap ebuild. I noticed that Savonet actually prepared its own ebuilds but they are a bit outdated (2007).
I could build directly from source but I'd prefer to do it via
