OT: hardware, IBM 3650 M2 won't power on
Just for grins, pull off the cover and look at the electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard. Look for ones with the tops pushed up instead of being flat. This can cause all sorts of odd behavior. Often the machine with a blown capacitor will continue to run till it is powered off. Mostly I see this on Dell machines but have seen it on other machines as well. They are pretty easy to

Server hangs on CentOS 5.5
Hi -- I'm running a server which is usually stable, but every once in a while it hangs. The server is used as a file store using NFS and to run VMware machines. I don't see anything in /var/log/messages or elsewhere to indicate any problem or offer any clue why the system was hung. Any suggestions where I might look for a clue? -- Michael Eager eager at eagercon.com 1960 Park Blvd.,

[SUGGESTION] Managesieve: Transparent home dir creation
Hi all, I'm using dovecot 2.0-beta4's sieve plugin and it works great but here is an idea for improvement: When creating the first sieve script for an account whose home dir does not yet exist then dovecot *does* create that homedir but the sieve client times out. Tried Thunderbird's sieve addon as well as horde's ingo. The log says: dovecot: managesieve-login: Login:

dovecot-2.0-beta4, lda and sieve: Permission lookup failed from /tmp/Dovecot Delivery
Hi all, I'm testing a dovecot-2.0-beta4 and it is great so far, except that I can't get the sieve plugin for the LDA configured. It doesn't find the user's homedir and uses /tmp instead. Thus it never finds any sieve scripts. The log shows that the SQL queries return the correct home path, namely /mnt/data/vmail/example.com/me dovecot: auth: prefetch(me at example.com): passdb

Change in smbclient between 3.0.24 and 3.0.25c breaks third party app
Hello list, A change in smbclient between 3.0.24 and 3.0.25c breaks [1] the gollem filemanager [2] and maybe others. In particular folder creation is broken unless the folder is a top level folder on the share. To create a subfolder "level2" in the folder /level1 of a share gollem executes this command: /usr/bin/smbclient "//1.2.3.4/sharename" "-p139"

Tools to take a kernel crash dump.
Hello Everyone, We have noticed that one of our servers xen Dom0 is restarting idiopathically. Atleast, we are not able to analyze the cause. I have checked the logs but couldn''t find anything relating to it. Are there any tools such as kdump (which doesn''t seem to work on xenified kernels) for catching the kernel crash snapshot. (OT) Computer seems to have died
Hello, I have an old IBM Netvista. Lately, it would seem to go into sleep mode but I have all that disabled. I would have to power off to wake it up. Now I think its done. I can't even get to the CMOS/BIOS. The power light is on but no beeps or anything spinning up. I have two of these Netvistas and had put on away when I upgraded one of the machines. I pulled the HD from it and installed

Failover testing problem and a heartbeat question
We have a setup with 15 hosts fibre attached via a switch to a common SAN. Each host has a single fibre port, the SAN has two controllers each with two ports. The SAN is exposing four OCFS2 v1.4.2 volumes. While performing a failover test, we observed 8 hosts fence and 2 reboot _without_ fencing. The OCFS2 FAQ recommends a default disk heartbeat of 31 - 61 loops for multipath io users. Our initial

Flickering Nvidia GeForce GT210
Hm, this kind of "incomplete fill" flicker could be due to something just not being able to keep up. But you may be in luck - nouveau may support reclocking on your GPU -- check the contents /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/pstate for the various options, and echo e.g. "0f" or "22" or whatever the desired level is listed as back into that file (note - AC = "current",
