RFC: bicubic filtering patch
Hey, There's one relevant patch in the F13 DDX package that hasn't been pushed into git still. The patch simply switches off the bicubic filtering if we're scaling the image by less than 200% in either direction in order to prevent some excessive blurriness in the image (very noticable with the gstreamer xvideo test). The patch has been in the Fedora package since F11 as a user

"nv" driver lock up where new version
I have had my "nv" driver lock up a number of times. I downloaded the "nvidia" drivers and they did not work at 1920x1080 resolution. I am looking for an updated driver for just "nv". I found some once for a different driver that you just update commonXXX and yourdriverXXX not the whole X recompile. Where can I find those drivers? THanks, Jerry --------------

Can anyone advise me on running R and Rstudio on an AWS virtual machine
This is a funny one and if it's off topic here, I would be grateful if I could be guided to where it would be on topic. I have done some searching but not very successfully so far. Situation: I am doing some analyses of data that are stored in a postgres database in the AWS cloud and using the RJDBC and dplyr packages for the specifics of yanking the data to my own machine. They work and

recommendations for web video bit rates
Hey, everyone. I'm sure this thread will generate some email! Some people are working on a super-easy to use converter for people to be able to convert videos to Theora for the upcoming Get Video on Wikipedia push: http://videoonwikipedia.org/ (Note that this isn't being pushed yet, and is pre-launch quality!) For the converter one thing we'd like to be able to provide is a set

Gradient field from loess
I have a two-dimensional loess fit, and need to calculate the gradient field from it. Even after looking at loess.c and loess.f, I don't understand the meaning of the returned polynomial coefficients. Or is the brute force method of using a tangential approx to the fitted values the way to go? Dieter Menne --------------------------------------- Dr. Dieter Menne Biomed Software 72074

Speeding up image plots
Dear R-users, I wonder whether it is possible to speed up plots of 2-dimensional images (such as image() or levelplot()) in order to export lower quality versions of the resulting plots. I intend to export a large number of images in order to construct animated gifs. For this purpose, I used the png()-function in conncection with image() and levelplot(). But the underlying arrays are so big

2 dimensional interpolation from matlab to R
Hi everybody. i have 2 datasets : one with a long grid a lat grid and a bathymetry grid the second one only has the long and lat coordinates. So i want to know the bathymetry associated to the second dataset. I thought it was a good idea to do an interpolation between the two datasets. I find a script doing that on matlab but i want to do it on R. Do you how to do it? for ii =

Font quality in base graphics
I am attempting to get publication quality graphs using R on Ubuntu. I encounter lots of problems in using cex to control font size: for instance cex=1.5 results in very blocky characters. I then tried to use res=1200 while creating a PNG file, hoping that this would solve the problem, but it did not. When doing the above, a second problem appeared: the font size relative to the graphics decreased

Centos 5.7, I10 video, 1920x1080 monitor
I have a Centos 5.7 machine with Intel I10 video (built-in, I guess -- this is one of those all-in-one mini terminal things) that I'm trying to put a new 1920x1080 monitor onto, without conspicuous success. Prior to this it's been using a smaller monitor with no issues. Try as I might I can't get the new monitor to run at its 1920x1080 resolution. I just realized that I forgot to

Problem with external monitor on laptop
I am running opensuse Leap 15 on an Alienware laptop. When I plug a monitor into the HDMI socket xrandr shows that is disconnected. How can I get the system to send an event or something so it will look and see that a monitor is there. If I cycle power on the computer with the monitor connected both monitors come up connected. The command xrandr --auto does not bring the disconnected monitor

Wine desktop emulation
Hi, if you don't like to read the reason of the question, skip the blue part ;) i usually like to play older games with wine, and many of them are restricted to a screen resolution of SVGA or XGA ect. This looks of course incredibly bad on a Full HD Widescreen. Some of these games offer parameters or modes to play them in windowed mode (DiabloII, ...), some of them do only support the

xrandr HDMI-1 and DVI-D-1 disconnected - External monitor not detected
Hi List, I'm stuck how to get a dual head monitor solution to work with Nouveau, running openSUSE 13.1 on my hp8710w mobile workstation equipped with a Nvidia graphical card. Beyond the built-in WUXGA display, an external WQHD monitor is connected to the HDMI port on the graphical card and/or to the dual link DVI-D on a hp docking station. Vampire -Bloodlines freezes with "fov 69"
Hi, I successfully installed Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines with Wine 1.1.36 and edited the hex values in engine.dll to get it to run a resolution of 1920x1080 as described in this tutorial; http://widescreengamingforum.com/dr/vampire-masquerade-bloodlines I can also set "r_anamorphic 1" for widescreen. But when I type "fov 69" in the game console the screen freezes.
