finding the MLEs of IG parameters by EM-Alorithm
Dear all
I'm trying to caculate the MLEs for parameters of Inverse Gaussian
distribution (in a k-sample problem with common mean) by using
EM-Algorithm. I found some package for EM-Algorithm that are useful
for missing or incomplete data and are not helpful for solving my
problem.
(Exactly, the problem is: Let Xij, i=1,..,k , j=1,...,ni, be a random
sample from IG(?,?i). So the

Fitting an Inverse Gamma Distribution
http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n3216865/Inverse_Gamma.png
Hello,
I am seeking help in estimating the parameters of an inverse gamma
distribution (from the 'actuar' package) using a function like 'fitdistr'.
Unfortunately I haven't found such a package using findFn('fit Inverse
Gamma') from the 'sos' package and was therefore hoping someone might be

replace a whole word with sub()
Dear all,
I cannot figure out how to solve a small problem (well, not for me), surely somebody can help me in few seconds.
I have a series of strings in a vector X of the type "xxx", "yyy", "zzz", "IgA", "IgG", "kkk", "IgM", "aaa".
I want to substitute every ENTIRE string beginning with "Ig" with

inverse.gaussian, nbinom
Two questions:
1. inverse.gaussian is up there as one of the glm families, but do
people ever use it? There is no inverse.gaussian in the R
distribution family, and when I checked McCullagh & Nelder, it only
appeared twice in the book (according to subject index), once in the
table on p. 30 and once on p. 38 in a passing sentence. Is there a
good reference on this distribution?

R: numerical integration problems
hello all
happy new year and hope you r having a good holiday.
i would like to calculate the expectation of a particular random variable and would like to approximate it using a number of the functions contained in R. decided to do some experimentation on a trivial example.

Routing problem
Hi,
i have one firewall/gateway server with two interfaces and a routing
problem (?).
eth0: external interface
eth1: internal interface. Both ip address are valid.
Services like DNS, HTTP is configured to run using eth1 ip address.
The problem is when i try to connect from internet to firewall, i canĀ“t see
eth1 ip address... only eth0 ip address.
So, when i try to connect to web

How to fit a normal inverse gaussian distribution to my data using optim
Dear R Help
Please forgive my lack of knowledge,.I would be very thankful for some help.
Here is my problem:
I was using optim to estimate parameters of a model and I get this error message
"Error in optim(x0, fn = riskll, method = "L-BFGS-B", lower = lbs, upper = ubs, :
L-BFGS-B needs finite values of 'fn'"
Below is the R code I have written.

counting occurrence of text in a dataframe
Hello list.
I am hoping for some help with a relatively simple problem. I have a data frame arranged as below. I want to be able to count the occurrence of each gene (eg let-7e) by Experiment. In other words how many times does a given gene crop up in the dataframe. I tried table but couldn't work out how to get the output I want. I have also considered rearranging this data into a list (by

Neural Networks in R
Hello!
We are a group of three students at Bielefeld University currently working
on a statistical projects about neural networks. Within the framework of this
project we are supposed to use the nnet-function in R and explain how it
works. Since anyone of us has much experience in using R we hoped to find some
information on your homepage. Unfortunatelly, we haven't been very successfull

garchFit problem
Hi,
I have a problem using garchFit, when I use :
x<-model$resid
fit = garchFit(~garch(1, 1), data = x, cond.dist="dst")
fit at fitted
it gives me error : object "fit" not found
Why it doesn't recognize fit?
Thanks,

Instalation of lastest version of Shorewall in Debian
I want to use lastest version of Shorewall in my fresh debian squeeze
instalation,
so I follow http://www.shorewall.net/Install.htm#Debian
but, modify preferences file was not enough for me,
I have to modify/add some other files in /etc/apt/ directory:
1.) include testing repo to source.list
2.) add APT::Default-Release "stable"; to apt.conf
and pinning all other packages to stable

Resize domU block device?
Is there a way for a domU to discover size changes of block
devices modified by dom0?
To make it clear - if I do in dom0 a lvresize of a logical volume given
as physical disk to a domU, is there a way to use the new size
of this device within the domU without reboot?
Thanks
Ralf
