Rails Authorization and Security question
Working through the Users and Authentication of Learning Rails book
(great book, code needs to be proof-read in a few cases, though), I
came across this:
There''s still one leftover that may be worth addressing, depending on
your security needs. The authorization? method has secured the data,
and the view no longer shows the user options they can''t really use,
but if a

acts_as_authenticated current_user in a model?
What do I need to do to be able to use an acts_as_authenticated
current_user in a model?
Is there some sort of include or require I can do some where that would
allow this?

Here is what I am trying to do:

Facebooker and existing website?
Hi
I am trying to use facebooker with an existing website that already
has a model named ''User''.
I therefore created a model called BkUser for use with facebooker.
Also I have different controllers for all facebook requests.
I am using acts_as_authenticated for handling login etc for my website
and everytime a user is logged into my facebook app and tries to also

newbie before_filter question
I''ve successfully gotten acts_as_authenticated working. Currently the
before_filter line for my admin screen is like this:
class AdminController < ApplicationController
include AuthenticatedSystem
before_filter :login_required
Only issue I have now is that anyone logged in can access that screen.
I''d like to differentiate between a regular user and

named route new_session not working
Anyone have any idea why a named route would NOT work? I did rake
routes to make sure it was there and it was but for some reason
new_session doesn''t work.

Yet another dry question..
One of these days I''ll figure this out, but in the meantime help me be a
better programmer by eliminating some excess code:
I''m trying to check to see if somebody trying to view/edit/update a
product is the owner. In my scaffold I have this code that works:
def edit
@owner = Product.find(params[:id].to_i)
if @owner.user_id == @user.id
@product =

second assert_tag failling in rails integration test
Hi all,
I''m fairly new to rails and ruby, but I''ve come across an interesting
glitch and I''m not sure whether I''ve just got something wrong with my
assumptions or if it really is an error in the underlying framework...
I''ve created a bare-bones set of tests to show you where the problem is.
What follows are the steps I went through to reproduce the

authentication, controller specs. I think I''m missing something simple ....
Hi all,
I feel like I''m missing something really easy and I''m just not seeing
it.
I''m using the restful_authentication plugin and have a User model. Uesr
has_many :things and Thing belongs_to :user.
That''s it.
I did a "script/generate rspec_scaffold thing" to generate all the
necessary bits. The "rake db:migrate" to create the db.

Uninitialized constant in integration test
I am seeing weird issues when trying to create integration tests. Here
is a very simple example of something that is failing. The
assert_redirected_to, and other methods, fail with this or similar
exceptions.
I have tried requiring both ''application'' and ''listings_controller'', but
neither solves this problem, although the exception changes.
Anybody know

simple rails login system
Hey All,
Just started to play around with rails a bit today by creating a
login system, but I''ve run into a glitch.

if request.post? and params[:user]
@user = User.new(params[:user])

I''m using Shoulda and restful_authentication on Rails3 and whenever I
run my tests a before filter for login_required is always triggered,
despite my filter being set up as:

rails story runner returning a nil response code
Has anyone noticed any problems with the Rails story runner returning
a response code of "0" when doing get/post/etc methods? I just
grabbed the latest rails/rspec and just started noticing this problem,

Regular controller specs pass as expected.

Specs and Libs
How would I go about writing specs for a lib, particularly one with
all protected and private methods. I''m trying to spec the
AuthenticatedSystem library from the rails restful_authentication
plugin:

Also, when you''re mocking objects, a side-effect is helping you
define the api of the object. Is there a way to get all the

[Stories] Login and subdomain
I''ve just begin using rspec stories, and i m encountering some
problems. In my application i have different subdomains in which
specific users can log in, for example an admin will go to
admin.myapp.com/authenticate/login, and an user belonging to a
specific company will log in company.myapp.com/authenticate/login, and
of course both have a different login process.

acts_as_authenticated error with Object#id
I''m getting this when I run my Rails controller specs.
<projectroot>/config/../lib/authenticated_system.rb:16: warning: Object#id
will be deprecated; use Object#object_id
I added "include AuthenticatedTestHelper" to /spec/spec_helper.rb so
that my controller tests^H^H^H^H^Hspecs can use the "login_as" helper
method. Anyone know how to fix this?
