Centos 4.4 Install bug
To the Centos maintainers: We tried to install Centos 4.4 i386 (i686 / Athlon) on a Dual Opteron 254 Iwill DK8N MB, 1GB (4 x 256M) system with a 3ware 9500S-4 and 4 x 80 GB disks in a RAID 10 array. Both tries caused Centos to first kernel panic until we turned off IO-APIC in the BIOS. Both tries also only loaded the UP kernel and did not load the smp kernel on the machine. The smp kernel was

kernel 2.6.32-279.9.1.el6.x86_64 does not build from the source rpm's using the UNmodified config file and following the directions explicitly. Previous kernels build fine from the same directions. A little help from the developers would be greatly appreciated. while building I get this output: c1: warnings being treated as errors drivers/base/platform.c:621: error:

Centos 3.4 3ware 9500S Floppy Boot Disk
We have created a Centos 9500S Floppy Boot Disk for installing Centos on a 3ware 9500S series controller that will allow installing and booting directly from this controller. This boot disk supports only AMD XP, MP and Opterons in 32 bit mode Centos 3.4 for the up and smp versions. We can also do a x86_64 version if required. Any interest???? If so we will post it to our web site. Thanks

New 3ware 9500 Boot Disk Images for CentOS
We have just posted new 3ware 9500 install boot driver disks based on the new 3ware 9.1.5.2 drivers. This install disk will ONLY work with Athlon and Opteron based systems running 32 bit CentOS 3.3 These images also contain built-in firmware upgrades for the 3ware 9500 SATA Raid controllers and provide increased RAID 5 performance. Also added to the download page is a version of 3DM2 disk

ATI Rage XL Driver for Centos 6.5
I have just installed Centos 6.5 on a Asus motherboard with an embedded ATI Rage XL controller (and with no room to install a more capable graphics card) and it is infuriatingly slow, running in VESA mode. Unfortunately this card is not supported "out-of-the-box" by centos 6.5 and after Googling I have not found that the kmod-fglrx-legacy driver from elrepo would work either according

CentOS as an internet gateway
I would add the below: -Recommend using CentOS 4.0 -Use squid rpm, no tar (this is for new users I'm guessing). -Recommend using etherape and iptraf (available as rpms) for a graphical overview of traffic. http://etherape.sourceforge.net/ -Recommend the use of chkrootkit, and TCP Wrappers (at the least put ALL: ALL EXCEPT PARANOID in /etc/hosts.allow) to protect servers. -Provide some

Follow Up - Centos / Red Hat EL Broken 5.4 + 5.5, ** Alternative solution **
To the list: 1) Someone off the list (thanks!) offered to send me an RT kernel based on 2.6.23.X. So I thought why not try to build a standard / server type based on the standard 2.6.23 version. 2) Red Hat 6 Beta 2 is based on a similar starting point 3) I was not going to fix something Red Hat broke. They responded to me that they only support the configuration of the generic binary they

OT: ?? Centos Still Broken, Red Hat won't fix ??
To the Linux Community at Large: I reported to this list back in January, 2010 that the standard x86_64 kernel, when built from the src.rpm and modified for AMD K8 / K10 Extensions would not build. I reported this here and to Red Hat via Bugzilla ID number 558367. RH AS / Centos 5.3 worked fine. That was Centos 5.4 / Red Hat Enterprise AS 5 Update 4. Today we tried to optimize Red Hat

Playing Rage (Steam version) with a gamepad
I'm playing the newly released game Rage by id software on my Arch Linux 64 bit box and runs quite nicely. I was beginning to wonder if it would be possible to ply the game with controller/gamepad? What is possible/easiest to set up with wine? I have an ps3 controller could that do the job or would it be easier to get an xbox 360 controller or a completely different gamepad? Any suggestions

Centos 5.4 with Rage
I'm trying to install a newly downloaded Centos 5.4 on an older Dell PowerEdge 300. Unfortunately, it came with one of those ATI Rage 2.0 video cards. The install screens show fine, and the initial screen does fine, but once it starts the "firstboot" section, where I'm supposed to select the firewall and such, I get two thirds of the top of the screen and a repeat of the top

Tyan Thunder K8SE S2892 lm_sensors Config
Tyan has posted a lm_sensors config file for the Thunder K8SE S2892 at ftp://ftp.tyan.com/software/lms/lms_s2892.conf However when I ran the sensors command on my S2892 I was getting a readout for an adt7463 chip that wasn't referenced in the config file. I emailed Raphael Deng at Tyan asking him to confirm the manual edit needed to get sensors.conf to refer to the adt7463 chip. His

I'm just wondering what folks are using to benchmark/tune large arrays these days. I've always used bonnie with file sizes 2-3 times physical RAM. Maybe there's a better way? Cheers,

RAID card recommendation
Hey all, After seeing the horrible lack of support for Promise cards in Redhat Enterprise/CentOS, I am looking for a recommendation for a good IDE RAID controller that is supported out of the box (i.e. I would prefer not to have to install via a driver disk). I would prefer ATA 133 over Serial ATA for now. Thanks! Sean

Tyan K8SE (S2892) / nForce Pro Experiences
Has anyone installed Linux (CentOS or other) on a Tyan K8SE (S2892) motherboard? I'd really like to hear your experiences -- with this board or Nvidia's nForce Pro chipset in general. I'm looking to build a new server using this board but would like to find some other experiences first. I've googled myself blue but haven't found any reviews or postings regarding this

Regression line limited by the rage of values
Hi In R, using plot(x,y) followed by abline(lm(y~x)) produces a graph with a regression line spanning the whole plot . This means that the line extends beyond the swarm of data points to the defined of default plot region. With par(xpd=T) it will span the entire figure region. But how can I limit a regression line to the data range, i.e between (xmin, ymin) and (xmax, ymax)? Sorry for
